This 1993 Mercedes-Benz 300CE Cabriolet was sold new by Beifus Motors of South Orange, New Jersey with first registration in Florida before moving to Texas in 2017 with its current owner. Now showing just 26k miles, this 300CE is finished in Light Ivory (623) over Brazil Leather (263) and is powered by a 3.2-liter 24-valve inline-six linked with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power adjustable front seats with driver-side memory, a power adjustable steering column, a power-folding fabric soft top, automatic climate control, cruise control and the original Becker Grand Prix radio. Maintenance under current ownership included a new head gasket, valve cover gasket and power steering gaskets. The most recent maintenance includes a new distributor cap and rotor with manually adjusted timing. This A124 is now offered for sale by the current owner in Austin, Texas with three keys, original manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
The exterior is finished in Light Ivory (623) and features a power-operated dark brown fabric soft top with a heated rear glass pane and a removable draft deflector. The seller notes that the power soft top is fully functional but the locking levers must be fully disengaged for operation. New soft top handles are included as the old units are said to have become brittle. Exterior features include power adjustable mirrors, headlamp wiper/washers and an automatic antenna which was replaced by the seller in 2021. The exterior presents well with no signs of damage or rust present and no accidents reported on the Carfax. The seller also notes that an aftermarket CarCraft car cover is included with the sale.
The 15” 8-hole alloy wheels come wrapped in a set of Michelin Sport Primacy tires measuring 195/65 on all four corners. The seller notes that some wheels show minor signs of curb rash and the tires show date codes from 2008 with plenty of tread remaining. The full-size spare tire can be found mounted below the trunk floor.
The cabin is trimmed in Brazil Leather (263) and features matching carpets, black floor mats and Burl Walnut wood trim lining the center console, dashboard and door panels. The wood trim is in good condition and shows no signs of cracking or discoloration. Both front seats are power operated with two-position memory for the driver. The front seats fold forward to allow access to the second row. Additional interior amenities include automatic climate control, cruise control, a power adjustable steering column, an Active Bass sound system, the original Becker Grand Prix Super 2000 radio, and seat belt extenders which the seller states are functional. The seller notes that the passenger sun visor is loose and is missing the plastic mirror cover. A replacement visor in black is included with the sale as well as a rear passenger rocker switch assembly.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames analog instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer shows just 26k miles with 1,400 miles added by the current owner since 2017.
This Cabriolet is powered by a 3.2-liter 24-valve inline-six which is factory rated for 217 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Maintenance under current ownership includes a new head gasket, valve cover gaskets and power steering gaskets which were replaced by Mercedes-Benz of Autstin. The most recent maintenance included a new distributor cap and rotor with the timing manually adjusted. Service records from current ownership are complete with partial records included from prior owners.
The Carfax report shows linear mileage updates with registration in Florida and Texas and shows no accidents or damage reports. Included with the car is the original manufacturer’s literature consisting of the original service book, manual, sales brochure and color chart as well as the factory tool kit, spare tire and an aftermarket car cover. This 300CE is now offered for sale by the current owner in Austin, Texas with three keys, a clean Carfax report and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
A walk-around and power top demonstration video has been included by the seller below.
With no four-seater convertibles offered in the Mercedes lineup since the early 70’s, Mercedes introduced the 300CE cabriolet in 1991 featuring extensive chassis stiffening, windshield reinforcement, a power operated soft top and a pop-up roll bar. From an era where cost was not placed before engineering, the Sacco-era A124 has become known for its exceptional build quality, comfort and reliability. Underappreciated for many years, these cabriolets are starting to see a resurgence in popularity as collectors begin to recognize their rarity with less than 600 units reportedly produced for the 1993 model year. This example is as clean as they come showing just 26k original miles and sporting a highly desirable color combination. For a collector looking for the best in 90’s era Mercedes-Benz, this example presents the perfect opportunity to secure a timeless piece of what the brand represents.

This looks like a great car. I am prepping a 1995 A124 now and I would love to add it to the VIN lists and see how many Dark Green/Tan cars may have been produced. I have not seen many. I know I have never seen this Ivory/Brazil combo before. GLWA! Someone will be very lucky on this one.

I appreciate the response, I figured it was a misstatement. I was worried you might have been taken advantage of by an unscrupulous mechanic. Thanks again.
@thriced Sorry if I created a misunderstanding with my loose use of language. The work order says: "UPON INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE COIL END POINTS ARE BURNT AND NOT MAKING PROPER CONTACT. REMOVE & REPLACE. CONTACTS AND SPARKPLUGS. RESET SYSTEM AND TEST DRIVE VEHICLE TO VERIFY REPAIR." If you send my your email I would be happy to send you a PDF of the full work order. -andy
According to the description "The most recent maintenance included a new distributor cap and rotor with the timing manually adjusted". I'm curious how this happened since its an M104 engine which uses coils and electronic ignition and doesn't have a distributor.

@Don_Draper Good eye! In response to your note I looked at the photos of the ashtray, and they do show what looks like a heat burn. So I would guess it's more likely than not that someone smoked in the car. I live 1000 miles away from where the car is garaged so I can't examine this in person. I'm not a smoker, and I am positive no one has smoked in the car for as long as I've owned it for the past six years. There is no smoke/cigarette/cigar odor in the car. I have no way of knowing about smoking habits of prior owners or their partners/friends etc. The ashtray inside color is silvery metal, not light blue as the ambient light photo suggests.
This color is stunning.....GLWA
Great color combo! Any idea if this car was a smokers? The discoloration on the headliner and in the ashtray makes me wonder. Any insight would be helpful

Andy, Thanks for trying to work with me but as it is working out I will not be able to come down after all, good luck on the bid because it is a great ride. Robert P.S. let me know if it stays in Texas because it needs to be a part of our M/B Club. [email protected]

@Robert4676 Hi Robert, Andy here. I'd be happy to work out a visit to the car but there are some key logistical barriers. The car is garaged in Austin (Lakeway) at our vacation house but I live in Washington, DC (where I am now). Our house manager, who can open the garage and provide access, will be available this week until Friday noonish and then on Sunday until about 1 pm. So the access window is small but available. The car is protected by its dust cover which would need to be removed (it need not be put back); the car would not be available to drive as it's connected to a trickle charger. If you want to drive down from Dallas to inspect the vehicle, let me know so I can make the arrangements with our house manager to connect with you and provide access. As an alternative, I can provide you with the contact info for the firm that did the detailing and/or the firm (Ben's Workshop) that performed the most recent service (points). Let me know how you'd like me to help out here.
[email protected]. Thanks for your help
@Detailit - If you send my your email address, I can send you photos of the front and back of the 1993 300CE color card. The back of the card lists the interior color combinations that are available by car model. That card is static -- it doesn't have production numbers, and it doesn't address exterior/interior/top color combinations. The original of this card goes to the auction winner. - andy
@ferrari1971 Andy, the owner, here. To answer your questions: Both seat belt retractors work. I've not done any paint meter analysis; the records I received from the two prior owners didn't include any that addressed paint/bodywork, but of course absence of evidence doesn't prove anything. The power antenna extends and retracts with the power state of the radio. When the radio is on, sound comes from the speakers without hiss or crackle. I've not tested each of the speakers individually. The volume control works correctly. Hope this helps answer your inquiry.
I have never see this color combo in the cabrio Where do you find the data on color combo and production ???
@andyc3 wow, glad to hear someone else trying to capture 300CE data. Happy to send you my list if you share your email. I'm at [email protected]. My main purpose was to understand exterior and interior color percentages, as I purchased a 1993 Nautical blue over blue leather cabriolet last year, and realized that I'd never seen that combo before. Turns out, after capturing about 252 VINs (1993-1995) blues (Nautical, Midnight, Azurite, Ice) are rare. And blue leather is rare. The blue on blue especially rare (although this Light Ivory/Brazil might be unique). Anyway, looking forward to sharing data.
Hi, do both seatbelt reactors work? , What about the radio, are the speakers still functioning? Do you have paint meter readings, It looks like the passenger quarter panel was painted. Other than the tires , headliner, passenger vanity mirror, Wheels, this seems to be a very nice car. I will look forward to bidding.
@ottobenz Hi Otto, Great minds think alike. I have an Excel "data base" of about 80 1993 300CEs starting in June 2017. I collect VIN, car location, mileage, colors (ext, int, top), mileage, last publicly posted price (may be sold, reserve not met, withdrawn, etc.) and some notes about the sale or car state. Perhaps we could swap VIN lists if you think it would be helpful to fill in the blanks in our lists after the auction is completed.
I am in Dallas, is it possible to view the car? Robert

Interesting and pretty color combination Ottobenz perhaps you can give me some info on one of my 124s. 1993 300CE Sportline Coupe in Bornite with black interior Donkster1@instagram
Light Ivory is exceedingly rare. Was only available on the cabriolets in 1993 model year.. Brazil interior also very rare. I've been compiling a registry of A124s and currently have 41 VINs from the 1993 model year (out of 766 imported, or 5.4%). This is the first and only Light Ivory 300CE I've come across. I've only ever seen Brazil on 3 VINs (including this one), all from the 1993 model year. With low miles, this one should do very well.
Just the best color combination I have ever seen on one of these... Wow !
