This 1996 Mercedes-Benz SL500 shows first recorded registration in Texas and then moved to Washington State in 1998 where it has since remained until present day. Finished in Black (040) over Black Leather (261), power is provided by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 paired to a 5-speed automatic. This two-seater roadster shows just under 93k miles on the odometer. Equipment includes a black power soft top, removable paint-matched hardtop, power adjustable seats with memory, automatic climate control, a Mercedes-Benz Exquisit head unit, and chrome Monkar wheels. The included Carfax report shows thorough service records at both the dealership and independent specialists. Recent services in preparation for the sale are new fluids performed by the selling dealer. This SL500 is offered by the selling dealer in Kent, WA with two key fobs, factory literature, first aid kit, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Washington title.
The exterior of this SL500 is finished in Black (040) paint with matching lower body cladding. Included is a paint-matched hardtop with heated rear glass along with the stand and cover. Exterior features include a Black power-operated soft top, halogen headlamps, and lower fog lamps. The seller notes that no rust is present on the vehicle. The front bumper shows some damage on the bottom driver lip and it is misaligned. Some small chips can be seen on the rear bumper.
This SL500 wears 16” chrome Monkar wheels with Mastercraft Strategy tires mounted measuring 225/55 at all four corners and showing 2014 date codes. Power-assisted 4-wheel disc Anti Lock Brakes are standard. A brake fluid service was performed by Mercedes-Benz of Bellevue two thousand miles ago in 2024. A new steering damper was installed in 2021 by an independent German car repair shop.
The interior is finished in Black Leather (261) which covers the seats, arm rests and door panels while Burl Walnut wood trim accents the center console and dash with no cracks visible around the shifter surround. The seats are 10-way power adjustable with 3 position memory, along with both door mirrors and rear view mirror which feature auto dimming glass. Additional features include automatic climate control, a Mercedes-Benz Exquisit head unit, in-dash telephone system, cruise control, and a retractable rollbar shown working in the gallery. Detailed photos of the interior can be seen in the gallery and mesh windbuffer is included.
The leather wrapped steering wheel frames the gauge cluster which features a center-mounted 160-mph speedometer along with a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, instant economy, coolant temperature, oil pressure and an analogue clock. The digital odometer reads just under 93k miles and sits above the digital outside thermometer. Controls are mounted to the steering column for power tilt/telescope along with the cruise control.
This roadster is powered by a 5.0-liter 32-valve M119 V8 which produces 322 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. That power is shot to the rear wheels through a five-speed 722.6 automatic transmission. The included Carfax report shows thorough service records at both the dealership and independent specialists throughout the car’s life. 1995 is the last year for the infamous biodegradable wiring harnesses. As this is a 1996, it does not have the sleeving issues earlier cars had. The selling dealer performed a complete fluid flush on the car in preparation for the sale.
The Carfax report lists no accidents or damage with linear mileage updates since new and mostly Washington State ownership. This SL500 is offered by the selling dealer in Kent, WA with two key fobs, factory literature, first aid kit, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Washington title.
The seller has included the following videos:
The 1996 SL500 is the first year Mercedes-Benz strayed from their biodegradable wiring harness issues which makes these more desirable than the cars that came right before it. The black on black color combination is a timeless look along with the chrome OEM wheels. As chrome wheels are making a comeback, this spec is finally coming full circle. This was also the first year where Mercedes-Benz introduced the five speed 722.6 automatic transmission which is paired with the hand built quad cam M119 engine. This transmission can hold 1000 Nm of torque and is very similar to the 722.3, but it has a fifth gear that holds lower revs on the highway and the transmission overall delivers smoother shifts compared to the outgoing version. With the dealer service hits on the Carfax, the very clean underside, and interior that shows very little UV damage, this is going to be a wonderful car to whoever wins it.
