Thanks @Brandonpreim . I suspected $11k was not going to reach an accord. @mgtotheb will have to lift the bid a bit to wrap it up. I'm out as indicated. It's a lovely car and I hope it sells today. Best of luck hitting the price.
@giantsteps @mgtotheb No reserve is not met yet. The speaker covers being dirty is a very common thing to happen with a light colored SL. It's right where you need to move your legs to get out of the car and if you're on the taller side you're bound to touch it with your shoes 50% of the time. Would be a waste of money to replace them because they will get dirty again unless you're super careful. Yes the seats aren't perfect by any means however I always say that it's better to keep the leather original unless the seats are torn. The underside is in good shape and the suspension rubber is quiet. No weird creaks going over speed bumps. I have sold 6 R129 SL's and this on one of the nicest examples I've had falling short to a mint one owner Sl600. Good luck in these final hours of the auction!
@Mgtotheb, I cannot tell if it has or not....that is why I'm' wondering' if you'll close the sale at $11k. My guess is the reserve is higher than $11k. The seller just sold a pano top for $3.8k so using that asset sale as a baseline, the car is priced at $7.2k with an $11k bid. It would be a steal at that price. Though, in fairness, it does need some interior refurbishing. New perforated leather seat covers will cost $1000 to start and then add in another $500 or so for the speaker covers and other trim pieces. For me, I'd do a full service of all fluids including the trans and replace all of the motor mounts at this age and mileage. I'd also have a review of the suspension rubber since there are no underside photos. All in, I'd probably put $2k into it to get sorted out. You might take a different approach, of course.
@giantsteps how can you tell that the reserve hasn’t been met?
Wonder if this will close with reserve not met (RNM)....?
I'm out. Enjoy the purchase, MG, if you exceed the reserve which is now north of $11k I'm going to look for another one with fewer miles on BAT/C&B's. This would be a 6th car and 4th Benz for me. I'm in no rush.
This one is coming home.

@giantsteps I am not sure how to operate the multi-contour seats and I cannot find much info about it online. All I know is that it comes standard with the SL600 but was an option for the SL500. Same with the steering wheel; wood steering wheel is an option for this car but came standard on the SL600 - this car is loaded! Yes there is a reserve, I cannot disclose what that reserve is but I think the number is very reasonable with the current market. Especially for how nice this one is and all the features it has. Good luck to all bidders!

@giantsteps I unfortunately will not be able to get any undercarriage shots. I can assure you the undercarriage is free of rust and there are no leaks to our knowledge. I'll test the contour functions soon.

Thanks for the videos. Very useful. Will there be a chance to get photos of the underside of the car? I'd like to see if there are any leaks around the front and rear of the engine. Also the condition of the suspension rubber. Any holes or signifiant corrosion on the exhaust system?
Additional photos and videos have been added to the listing.

I see from the build specification and photos the car has the Multi Contour Seat Options (option code 404/405). Do the three switches on the side of each seat work correctly?
@giantsteps Future repairs would be a bit hard to say however these cars are good to you if you're good to them. Change the fluids, spark plugs, and any other little things that show up and major repairs will be minimized. Every function is fully operating including the seat heaters and other switches There are no other missing trim pieces. It is actually very common for the vanity mirrors to break off. The plastic is very fragile. I believe I have them still with the car laying around somewhere but I will need to double check. The carpet has a few areas of discoloration however with a good detailer, they should be able to make it look really clean. Same goes for the trunk The trunk CD changer does work I do not know the story for the glass being replaced. I have replaced a rear windshield for a panoramic roof as well. They get shipped from the factory in Germany. The soft top has been replaced. It has the new smell and the plastic windows are as clear as day. Two keys that both work as they should. I'll provide images of them promptly. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!
A few more questions: -Are you the owner or are you representing the owner in the sale? -What repairs are needed ahead knowing you have reviewed the service records at 94k miles? -Seat heaters and other switches fully operational? -I see the vanity mirror lids are both missing. Are there any other missing trim parts missing? Like the triangle rubber seals around the inside side view mirror trim pieces? -Besides the dirt/stains on the lower speaker covers, are there any other non-removable stains on the interior carpets or trunk? -Trunk CD change in working order? -In 2017, why was the glass rear window replaced for $1200? Assuming this was the rear window of the Pano roof? -Is the fabric top original or has it been replaced? If replaced, when? -Keys? How many in working order? Can you please share photos of the keys so I know if the cases/buttons need replacement. Thanks!
@giantsteps No, this car has no odor of being smoked in nor is there any residue left behind to prove otherwise. The interior has the old Mercedes leather smell and nothing more!
Is/was this a smokers car?
Hey everyone, I’m Brandon, the seller of this beautiful 2000 Mercedes-Benz SL500. I’m excited to offer this car here on MB Market and wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and provide some additional details. I’m a passionate car enthusiast with a deep appreciation for well-maintained, classic Mercedes models. I always make sure the cars I sell are properly represented, and this SL500 is a fantastic example of the R129 generation. This SL500 is finished in Desert Silver Metallic over a tan leather interior and has just around 94,000 miles. It has been well cared for, and as you can see from the photos, it presents beautifully inside and out. These later-model R129s are some of the best, featuring the 5.0L M113 V8, which is known for its reliability and smooth power delivery, paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Some highlights about this SL500: Clean Carfax report with no accidents Both the panoramic hardtop and soft top are included and in great shape Factory AMG styling package with the AMG wheels that have been refinished with machined lips Roof hydraulics that came from the company top hydraulics who rebuild the cylinders to remedy the notorious issues the OEM cylinders have. (If you don't know they spill hydraulic fluid everywhere and then the top stops working) Strong maintenance history, including recent servicing Everything on the car works as it should, including the power seats, climate control, telescopic steering wheel, and mirrors. It runs and drives great, with a smooth transmission and solid brakes. The paint and interior are in very good condition, with only minor signs of wear consistent with its age. If you’re looking for a clean, well-kept R129 that’s ready to be enjoyed, this is a fantastic option. These cars are only getting harder to find in this condition, especially with the AMG styling package and the panoramic hardtop. I’m happy to answer any questions, provide additional details, or take specific photos upon request. Feel free to comment here, and I’ll respond as quickly as possible. Thanks for checking out the auction, and happy bidding!
