This 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series is one of 350 examples produced and just 175 examples shipped to the United States. Sold new by Mercedes-Benz of Manhattan, this Black Series shows registration in New York, Florida and Texas with just under 12k miles on the odometer. Finished in Black (040) over Exclusive Black Anthracite Leather (531), power is provided by a hand-built 6.0-liter biturbo V12 paired with an AMG SpeedShift five-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. The Black Series receives widened carbon-fiber body work along with a carbon-fiber fixed roof, rear diffuser and speed sensitive rear wing. Equipment includes a RENNtech Stage 1 tune, multicontour front seats, Keyless-Go, Harman Kardon Logic7 surround sound, an Alcantara headliner, semi-active roll stabilization, adjustable coil-over suspension, staggered 19” and 20” AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels, and carbon-fiber interior trim. Recent service conducted by the current owner in September 2022 includes new spark plugs and a new rear wing hydraulic cylinder. This SL65 Black Series is now offered by the current owner in Houston, Texas with both keys, a clean Carfax report and a clean Texas title.
The SL65 Black Series receives factory widened carbon-fiber body work including a carbon-fiber front apron, fenders, hood, trunk lid, diffuser and a fixed carbon-fiber roof. This example is finished in Black (040) and features a vented hood and speed sensitive rear wing. The current owner had a rear wing hydraulic cylinder replaced in September 2022. Chrome V12 Biturbo badges are featured on the vented front fenders with chrome plated exhaust tips mounted at the rear. The carbon-fiber body panels aid in reducing the weight of the Black Series by more than 200 pounds from the standard SL65.
The staggered 19”/20” AMG forged multi-spoke wheels wear a black finish and come fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires measuring 265/35 front and 325/30 rear with date codes from 2014 and 2016 respectively. The Black Series receives a wider track with an increase of 4.5” at the front and 4.1” at the rear. The silver-painted brake calipers show black AMG lettering and clamp down on 15.3” slotted and drilled rotors at the front and 14.1” discs at the rear. The coil-over suspension offers manual adjustability with up to 0.8” in ride height adjustment available. The SL65 Black series also comes equipped with semi-active roll stabilization and Electronic Stability Control.
The cabin is trimmed in Exclusive Black Anthracite Leather (531) with carbon-fiber trim lining the center console and door panels. The seats are power adjustable and feature multicontour adjustment with contrasting white stitching in the center sections. AMG Black Series branding is featured on the center console with the shift knob denoting it as one of 175 examples built for the US. The headliner is trimmed in black Alcantara and the black floor mats are embroidered with the AMG logo. Interior amenities include COMAND infotainment, Harman Kardon Logic7 surround sound, a 6-disc CD changer, dual-zone automatic climate control and Keyless-Go.
The leather-wrapped AMG performance steering wheel fronts a 220-mph speedometer and 8k-rpm tachometer along with gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer currently reads just under 12k miles with only 300 miles added within the past year of ownership.
The hand-built AMG 6.0-liter biturbo V12 engine is factory rated at 661 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. Each engine is hand assembled by a single technician at AMG and includes a signed plaque fixed to the carbon-fiber engine cover. The current owner had the spark plugs replaced in September 2022 while the Carfax report shows additional regular dealer servicing. A Renntech Package 1 was installed in 2017 and consists of an upgraded ECU and air intake.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an AMG SpeedShift five-speed automatic transmission with the help of a limited-slip differential. Aluminum paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel allow for manual shifting.
The Carfax report shows linear mileage updates, regular service visits, and no accidents or damage reports. The seller notes that their ownership accounts for owners 7 and 8 on the Carfax report and that they have applied to have it amended. A lien is still on the car which will need to be satisfied to the lender prior to transfer of the title. This SL65 Black Series is now offered with both keys, a clean Carfax and a clean Texas title.
A thorough walk around video of the car along with a cold start and drive by clip are viewable below.
Of all of the wild creations made by AMG as part of the “Black Series” line, the SL65 features some of the most aggressive styling with widened carbon-fiber bodywork and a front and rear track that measures over 4” wider than the standard SL65. Along with the fixed carbon-fiber roof, the extensive use of this high-end composite aids in reducing the weight of the SL65 by over 200 pounds. New turbochargers and a new tune allow the 6.0-liter biturbo V12 to produce 661 horsepower and an electronically-limited 738 lb-ft of torque that can barely be contained by the enormous 325 section rear tires. With AMG no longer producing V12 performance cars, enthusiasts now look back at the SL65 Black Series as the highlight of the M275 engine whose run spanned over a decade. The triple-black color scheme contributes to the Batmobile-esque styling which is certain to be the highlight of any Cars and Coffee event you attend. With just 175 US market examples, values have only continued to climb, and this example showing just 12k miles and a clean history offers the perfect opportunity for an AMG enthusiast to add one of the most iconic Black Series cars ever produced to their collection.

the M275 cold start is a wonderful thing.
For those lucky enough to get seat time in one of these...it's unlike anything else. Purely primal.
