@sycamoresig79Hi , we have not done a compression test while the car has been in our care, but it starts immediately, idles as smoothly as a diesel can, and pulls strongly.
@bcv1, circling back to you! We took some additional photos today of the areas mentioned to better highlight the previous rust repairs as well as other corrosion that was observed underneath. Those have been submitted to the MB Market team for upload. No luck in getting records on the repairs. We can totally appreciate your concerns! This is definitely a "survivor" quality 300D. A great driver example, to be sure, but a fair amount of rust can indeed be found undearneath.
@JoseyWales45Hi , Sorry for the delay in replying to you. I don't have an answer for you at the moment, but I have reached out to a colleague who is an expert on all things MB for his input. We'll get back to you as soon as we've had the chance to confer.
@bcv1Hi , there is a bit of corrosion under the driver's seat where the undercoat has peeled away, but it doesn't look (or feel) like it is more than skin-deep. I poked around at the rest of the floor with a screwdriver and everything felt very solid. The large patch you see in one of the photos that looks like a rust repair is actually where the undercoat has peeled away and someone touched up the spot with a thinner material. I lifted the trunk carpeting and tire cover, and everything is dry with no evidence of having been wet in the past. The car is currently in our offsite storage building and not on a lift, but I'll try to take a closer look on Monday.
@cascadiaHi, and thanks for your interest in the 300D. I believe service records are available; I'll contact the previous owner and post scans of everything that we can get.
