This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEL is a European spec example originally ordered from the Nuernberg branch in Germany. The car was later imported to the U.S. and spent time in California before being purchased by the current seller in Spain. Finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) over Anthracite Leather (271), power is provided by a 5.0-liter V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The seller had the car reconditioned in Poland upon acquisition about 5 years ago which included installation of remanufactured AMG cams and lifters, AMG/Bilstein shocks and springs, Recaro seats, refinished interior wood, and more. Equipment includes authentic 16″ AMG Aero I wheels, a full AMG-style body kit, a Clarion head unit, integrated modern streaming functions, automatic climate control, a sunroof, and power windows. This W126 shows 70,418 kilometers (~44k miles) and is now offered with two keys, partial documents under current ownership, photo documentation for the reconditioning, a custom fitted car cover, and a clean Spanish title.

The car is finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) with paint-matched lower cladding and was fully repainted approximately 5 years ago with photo documentation. Features include an AMG-style body kit consisting of side skirts, front spoiler, rear skirt, and trunk spoiler. The side skirts still have their original AMG stamps. The trunk spoiler shows a crack along the top on the driver rear corner. Euro-market bumpers remain mounted along with European-market headlamps and a metal sunroof with tilt function. Remanufactured AMG-style exhaust tips are visible at the rear.

Authentic 16″ AMG Aero I wheels are paint-matched to the body and are wrapped with Hankook Ventus Prime 3 tires measuring 225/55 showing 2021 date codes. The factory jack and warning triangle are included in the trunk. Updated white springs and Bilstein shocks were fitted as part of the extensive reconditioning.

The interior is finished in Anthracite Leather (271) with refinished burl wood trim accents. Recaro front seats have been fitted in the front and the original seats are also included in the sale. Amenities include heated front seats, automatic climate control, an electrically adjustable passenger side mirror, and a Clarion head unit which is inoperable and serves as a front for the updated stereo with modern streaming capability. Privacy curtains will also come with the car although they have not yet been installed. A basslink mini subwoofer is installed under the front passenger seat.

The four-spoke AMG steering wheel frames a 300km/h speedometer which the seller states is an inlay, a 7k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and a combination gauge for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and instant fuel economy. The six-digit odometer shows 76,859 kilometers (~48k miles).

The Euro 5.0-liter M117 V8 is equipped with Euro log headers and was rated at 228 horsepower and 299 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Upon reconditioning, the seller had the AMG camshafts and lifters from his Euro R107 500SL removed and duplicated. The remanufactured set was installed and the seller reports the engine starts are perfect, both hot and cold, and transmission shifts are smooth. Reproduction valve cover gaskets with "AMG" lettering are also installed. A full AMG replica exhaust is mounted with reproduction AMG-style tips at the end.

The 80’s were a really good time to be alive. There was big hair, rock and roll, neon lights, Miami Vice, and the online digital age was still a couple decades away. This W126 perfectly captures the essence of the 80's with its AMG-style body kit and paint-matched AMG wheels. The Euro M117 is noticeably more powerful than it's U.S. counterpart making it the ideal choice. On top of that, the owner had the AMG cams and lifters out of his Euro R107 500SL duplicated and installed on this SEL. The extensive reconditioning of this car a mere 5 years ago helped take the car to the next level with Recaro seats, a very convincing AMG-style exhaust, Clarion head unit, AMG steering wheel, and refinished wood trim. Examples with the 5.4L engines are now fetching over $100k while 6.0L's seemingly have no cap. Whatever the case, there's no denying this W126 is an eye catcher as the heritage of tuner Benzes from the 80's continues to become widely popular.
