This 1990 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL is finished in Black (040) over Black (261) leather interior and powered by a 4.2-liter M116 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes a sunroof, automatic climate control, cruise control, and 15″ Gullideckel wheels. Recent service includes an oil and filter service and a new fuel pump relay. The car was originally sold in California and has remained on the west coast since 1990. This W126 shows 91k miles and is offered by the selling dealer in Portland with manufacturer’s literature, a first-aid kit, paper tags, original tool roll, two keys, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Washington State title.

The car is finished in Black (040) with contrasting gray lower cladding along with a chrome grille and trim. Features include an electric tilting and sliding sunroof, power antenna, and headlight wipers. The seller believes the paint to be all original on this accident-free example and close-up photos of the paintwork and trim are provided in the gallery. A small dent on the driver’s side front quarter panel is noted behind the front wheel along with minor imperfections along the lip of the rear bumper. The rear windows have a tint currently installed that the seller is offering to remove if requested for the buyer prior to delivery.

The OEM 15″ Gullideckel wheels are mounted with a set of 205/65 Bridgestone Turanza tires showing 2015 date codes. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes at all four corners.

The cabin is trimmed in Black leather (261) and features Zebrano wood accents on the dash, center console, and door panels. Cracks and chips are visible in the center console wood with close-up photos provided in the gallery. The car is equipped with an aftermarket Kenwood CD stereo head unit and a Sony 10-disc CD changer mounted in the trunk. Additional amenities include automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats with position memory, and power windows and door locks. The seller states that all features and options are functional and operable.

The leather wrapped, four-spoke airbag steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an integrated clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and instant fuel economy. The six-digit odometer shows just over 91k miles.

The 4.2-liter M116 V8 features Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 221 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque when new. An oil and fluid service was performed in preparation for the sale and the fuel pump relay was recently replaced. An invoice for the above is included with the sale. There's not a much more iconic color combination for the flagship W126 sedan than Black on Black. These cars were technological wonders for their time and continued to raise the bar new and standard features. The Sacco-era styling is, unmistakably, classic Mercedes. As with each generation of S-class, this top-of-the-line offering from Mercedes is adequately over engineered but - unlike cars from the modern era - not overloaded with electronics, making this generation of Mercedes easy to keep on the road for decades. Throughout the 80’s and early 90’s, the long-wheel-base W126 was a must have for any notable figure worldwide. Classic luxury sedans with big V8’s like this are becoming more desirable when compared to their modern and bubble-like shaped counterparts. This long-wheelbase 420SEL proves that you don’t have to overcomplicate something to make it feel like the best automobile in the world. Thanks to quality craftsmanship and legendary build quality, the W126 feels like a tank and well-loved examples like this one are becoming extinct.

Always loved a black on black W126. This was the goal in the 90s, to own one of these wasn't just for status but also for style and they still look better than the new plastic stuff we have today.
