This 1997 Mercedes-Benz SL320 was sold new in New Jersey where it remained with its first owner until 2016. The car is finished in Polar White (149) over Black Leather (261) and is powered by the 3.2-liter M104 inline-six paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Notably, this SL320 features a factory AMG Styling “Sport” Package with additional equipment including heated power seats with memory, a power black soft top, a removable paint-matched hardtop, Bose stereo, and staggered AMG Monoblock wheels. The odometer currently reads 65,677 miles and this R129 is offered with two keys, original tool kit, factory literature, an included Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.
The exterior of this SL320 is finished in Polar White (149) and features a factory-optioned AMG Styling “Sport” Package consisting of sculpted bumpers and sideskirts in matching Polar White. Headlamps at the front include washers and wipers while fog lights are integrated into the front bumper. The seller notes some paint imperfections on the front and rear bumpers which have been documented in the photo gallery below. Exterior features include power adjustable door mirrors which are mapped to the driver seat memory positions and a removable hardtop finished in color-matched Polar White. The Carfax does show two minor accident reports early on in the car’s life, however, neither were reported as having airbags deployed.
This SL was optioned with staggered AMG Monoblocks as part of the Sport Package measuring 18x8” in the front and 18x9” in the rear. The rears are fitted with Pirelli PZero tires and the fronts with Sailun Atrezzo SVA1 tires. The seller notes visible imperfections in the finish of the wheels. A spare wheel and tire is included in the trunk along with the original tool kit.
The cabin of this roadster is finished in Black Leather (261) and includes burl wood trim lining the center console and door panels. The wood trim is in good condition with the leather showing only minor wear on the seat bolsters. Equipment includes power operated and heated seats with memory, a Bose sound system with original Becker radio, Automatic Slip Control, cruise control and a power adjustable steering column. The seller notes that the power soft top feature is currently not operational.
The four-spoke Sport steering wheel frames the gauge cluster featuring a 160mph speedometer which sits alongside a tachometer, fuel economy gauge, oil pressure gauge, coolant temperature gauge, fuel level, and analog clock. Below is a digital odometer which currently reads just 65,677 miles, along with a digital trip odometer and digital exterior thermometer. Controls for cruise control are mounted on the steering column along with adjustment for the steering column position.
This SL320 is powered by the 3.2-liter M104 inline-six featuring double overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. Peak power is rated at 228 hp at 5,600 rpm while peak torque, measured at 232 lb-ft, is reached at 3,750 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. Recent service includes an oil change, two new front tires, new bushings, an alignment, a new air filter, and fuel filter. The only outstanding mechanical issue is the non-functioning power soft top. Photos of the underbody have been included by the seller.
The included Carfax report shows registration in New Jersey and Florida since new and displays linear mileage updates. This R129 is offered with two keys, the original tool kit, factory literature, an included Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.
The R129 was a notable mark in the SL lineage, both in terms of styling and technology. This design is emblematic of the 90’s Bruno Sacco era which included hits such as the W124 and W140. While most know the R129 from the SL500 where it was paired with the M119 V8, the SL320 used the M104 inline-six which shaved 150lbs, mostly off the front axle, providing more nimble steering and sportier handling. The M104 was famous for smooth power delivery thanks to double overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder and provided peak power at 5,600 rpm. This example, with just under 66k miles, is a great affordable option for a classic Mercedes-Benz sports car experience.

Carfax indicates the seller has owned the car only a few months. Is that correct? If so, why selling? Was it purchased to flip?
