This 1974 Mercedes-Benz 280 Sedan was originally delivered as a North American market example and reportedly shows two owners since new. Finished in Beige-Grey (DB726) over a Cognac Leather interior, power is provided by a naturally aspirated 2.8-liter DOHC inline-6 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Recent work performed by the owner and seller includes new tires, new shock absorbers, a new battery, new fuel tank, new fuel pump, new brake pads, a rebuilt carburetor, and a transmission service. All fluids are noted to be fresh and current as well. Features include a power sunroof, factory air conditioning, an original Becker Europa radio with cassette, a Hirschman power antenna, and power windows in the front and rear. The current owner acquired the car approximately five years ago and has added 800 miles under current ownership. This example shows 31k original miles and is offered with service records, factory literature, an original tool kit, two keys, and a clean Florida title.
The body is finished in Beige-Grey (DB726) and features original body panels. The owner reports the rear fenders to have been painted previously and treated under minor rust repair. The car was reportedly undercoated in 1974 and the door panels, floors, and fenders are all solid with no rust. All original trim appears to be present and the glass is all original as well with no signs of cracks or pitting. Exterior features include a Hirschman power antenna, dual side mirrors, polished windshield washer nozzles, and glass fog lamps.
Steel 14″ wheels with Beige-Grey (DB726) hubcaps are mounted with new 195/70 Goodyear Michelin all-season tires. New brake pads and shock absorbers were recently installed and detailed photos of tire tread can be seen in the gallery below.
The cabin is upholstered in Cognac Leather across the seats, door cards, armrests, head rests, and rear ashtrays. The front seats were previously recovered in Cognac MB-Tex while the rear seats show original Cognac leather. The cabin also features Cognac carpets throughout. The center console features controls for the factory air conditioning and heat. The original Becker Europa radio is in place and functions along with the attached Becker cassette player in the glovebox. The factory power sunroof functions as intended.
The original black steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. Set between the two gauges is a quartz-movement clock. The odometer shows 31k miles, approximately 800 of which have been added by the seller. It’s assumed the mileage is original yet noted to be TMU due to age of the car.
Paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, the 2.8-liter M110 is inline-six remains unmodified and was rated at 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque from the factory. Recent work performed by the owner and seller includes new tires, new shock absorbers, a new battery, new fuel tank, new fuel pump, new brake pads, a rebuilt carburetor, and a transmission service. All fluids are noted to be fresh and current as well.

@Seattlegearhead hello, There was no way for me to confirm the mileage when I got the car. I bought it from a Mercedes specialist in upstate New York who got it from the original owner. This person apparently had a large collection of cars; and many of the cars including this one were stored for 19 years! And it did looked like it was stored for a long time because the leather on the front seats was in good shape but cracked, probably because of the heat
The auction description says “service records” – do the service records support the odometer reading? Or do they suggest that it has turned over?
