This 1984 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is one of approximately 25k units produced between 1974-85 and shows 60k miles from new. Purchased on The MB Market earlier this year by the seller, this example is a gray-market import into the United States from new. Finished in Signal Red (568) over Creme Beige MB-Tex (175), power comes from a 2.8L inline-six gasoline engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes automatic climate control, tempomat cruise control, power windows, a black soft top, and a power antenna. Extensive records, including import documention, are included with the sale and photographed for the gallery. Recent service includes an A/C service and conversion to R134A, along with a new washer pump. This R107 is offered by the current owner in Roanoke, Virginia with the Signal Red hardtop, hardtop stand, a tool kit, a jack and spare tire, importation papers from 1984, and a clean Virginia title.
This Euro spec R107 is finished in Signal Red (568) and comes with a matching removable hardtop. The folding black fabric soft top is pictured in the gallery and shows a tear between the plastic rear windows. Exterior equipment includes adjustable side mirrors, fog lamps, US headlights, and Euro bumpers which are slimmer than their US counterparts. The seller notes some touchup in spots and some clear coat imperfections on the rear passenger quarter panel around the trunk lid. There is zero rust on any of the body panels.
Factory 14″ Bundt alloy wheels wear General tires measuring 205/70 all around with 2021 date codes. The Bundts show normal signs of wear with some fading noted. Four wheel ATE disk brakes stop the car at four corners.
Interior surfaces are finished in Creme Beige MB-Tex (175) with matching carpets, door panels, and a black dashboard. Burl wood trim is present on the lower dash, center stack, and console showing some light UV damage. An aftermarket Alpine head unit is installed and features a CD player behind the face. The A/C has been recently converted to R134A and and is fully operational.
Gauges include a 160-mph VDO speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and a six-digit odometer showing just over 60k miles, 2k of which have been added by the seller since June 2024. Auxiliary gauges include oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level.
The Euro 2.8-liter M110 inline-six features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated at 182 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque when new. A four-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels. Extensive records are included with the sale and photographed for the gallery. Photos of the engine bay, engine components, and the underside are included in the gallery. Recent service includes adjustment of the hood latch, an A/C service with a conversion to R134A, and a new windshield washer fluid pump.

These are so underrated. Other than a 500L, these are better than any 560, 450 or 380, I swear. Hey, keeps them cheap for people actually in the know, so it's good for me.

The more technology takes over cars the more I lean towards these older benzes. To never have to worry about top hydraulics and roof issues or suspension problem sounds nicer every day. This one is definitely a looker!
