This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 260E shows initial title and registration in Illinois and Wisconsin before Florida in 2022 when the current owner acquired it with 123k miles. Finished in Willow Green Metallic (261) over Pine Green MB-Tex (176), power is provided by a naturally aspirated 2.6-liter inline-6 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include a power sliding and tilting sunroof, front and rear power windows, automatic climate control with air conditioning, and cruise control. Modifications include Yellow Speed coilovers, Porsche Fuchs wheels, European-market headlamps, and LED bulbs throughout. Partial records accompany the car including the records noted in the Carfax with recent maintenance including new rear brake rotors, calipers, a brake fluid flush, and a fan clutch. This example is now offered by the current owner with two keys, the original owner's manual, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.
The body is finished in Willow Green Metallic (261) with charcoal-colored bumper covers, side trim, and rear view mirrors. The exterior features Euro-spec headlamps, fog lights, and a power antenna. The seller notes the body received a partial repaint under previous ownership due to general wear and age. Additionally a small rust spot is visible in the right front fender. Detailed photos of the exterior are available in the gallery.
Original wheels have been replaced with 17" Porsche Fuchs wearing Yokohama Advan tires measuring 235/40 and showing 2021 date codes. Braking is provided by disc brakes on all four corners and new rear brake rotors and pads were installed within the last year. Yellow Speed adjustable coilovers have been installed by the current owner.
The cabin is trimmed in Pine Green MB-Tex (176) across the dashboard, door cards, seats, armrests, and rear deck. Zebrano wood trim accents the center console and dashboard with little fading or wear shown. Factory amenities include adjustable seats with rear folding headrests, automatic climate control, power front and rear windows, an electric sunroof with tilt function, cruise control, and an aftermarket Pioneer head unit.
The four-spoke steering wheel houses a driver’s airbag and frames a 160mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer with an analog inset clock, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and vacuum-actuated instant economy. The six-digit odometer shows just over 127k miles since new.
The 2.6-liter SOHC M103 inline-6 was rated at 164 horsepower and 168 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 722.4 automatic four-speed transmission. Partial records accompany the car including the records noted in the Carfax with recent maintenance including new rear brake rotors, calipers, a brake fluid flush, and a fan clutch. Additional underbody photos can be seen in the gallery below.
The accompanying Carfax lists no accidents or other damage with linear mileage updates since new. This example is now offered by the current owner with two keys, the original owner's manual, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.
While these early W124’s may seem like bargain Benzes, they were nothing short of luxurious status symbols in their own time. These cars were built to last and it isn't uncommon to see them still floating around on the market today. However, finding one in such a stunning color combination with tasteful additions would be no easy feat. From the extremely rare Green over Green palette to the rich Zebrano wood trim, it's clear that this W124 has been loved and with the additions seems to have received a second life. The 260E’s are few and far between today as the more prominent 300E dominates the majority of W124 sale listings stateside. We love seeing such rare and enthusiastic example and expect the next owner to very pleased as opportunities today to own a W124 this nice are few and far between.

@5280M3 The ac blows ice cold and the heat works perfect. I had been daily driving this car for the last year as it sits. The windows work smoothly and the sunroof works both sliding and tilting. The transmission shifts well I am a tech myself so for the last year the work that’s been done on the car I have done myself. The ride on the coil overs is not brutally stiff with the dampening set pretty soft I drove the car to and from work no complaints along with a few 300-400 mile round trips. The car being from up north and rust concerns are why I have put the coil overs and new rear calipers as those seemed to be the rustiest things on the car. All the suspension bolts and everything that I have had apart moves smoothly I was able to align the car no issues. I have done fan clutch, belt, engine and trans mounts , rear calipers and brake flush , fixed the ac leaks, new oil cap , valve cover gasket, I would say the only outstanding thing would be the only remaining leak around upper corner of timing cover. in the few thousand miles I’ve done in the car it has not let me down.
Host of questions. How's the shifting? Any grinding? Any flares when changing gears? Heat blow hot? A/C work? All windows go up and down smoothly? Sunroof open and close freely? How is the ride now that it's lowered? Do you have records of consistent maintenance? Carfax looks a bit barebones. Any outstanding mechanical issues you know of? Is there really only that one rust spot? Car was IL and WI it's whole life. Thank you.
I should have a walk around video posted later today with the car running.
@jgrace it would be better to post any video directly to the sight for all to view, this way you won't be emailing everyone individually...just saying. The Porsche rims look good on the car . GLWA
