This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300D 4Matic was initially ordered through the Mannheim Branch and built as a European market example. The car was purchased by the current owner and seller in late 2021 and remains titled and registered in Florida with previous registrations noted in Japan, Nova Scotia, and Quebec. Finished in Diamond Blue Metallic (355) over Blue Cloth (062), this W124 is powered by an OM603 inline-six turbo diesel paired to a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently shows 153k kilometers (~95k miles) TMU, approximately 6k of which have been added by the seller. Features include air conditioning, a sliding power sunroof, and an aftermarket digital head unit. Maintenance performed over the past year includes an A/C service along with all fresh fluids, brakes, and both ball joints. The car is now being offered by the seller with a Carfax report showing history since 2006, the factory toolkit, manufacturer’s literature, one key, and a clean Florida title.
The exterior is finished in Diamond Blue Metallic (355) with all original panels. The seller notes slight corrosion around the base of the antenna and no other rust on the body. The original lower body cladding is finished in matching Blue paint and doesn’t show any cracks. Exterior features include European market side marker lamps, dark amber corner lights, a power sliding sunroof, and heat insulating glass. General wear can be seen across the paint including rock chips and light scratching. A ding is also noted in the rear passenger door. The attached Carfax shows minor damage and wind damage in 2008.
Original 15” Gullideckel wheels are fitted and wear new Continental tires measuring 195/65 on all four corners. The wheels are the originals and show light curb rash with no bends. Original silver-painted center caps are installed.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 220-kph analog speedometer, 6k-rpm tachometer, and an analog odometer with trip function showing 153k kilometers (~95k miles) TMU and the odometer noted as intermittently operational. Additional gauges include fuel level and coolant temperature along with an analog clock. The steering wheel shows some fading and cracking.
The 3.0-liter OM603 six-cylinder turbo diesel was rated at 148 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 4Matic four-speed automatic transmission. In the last year the A/C has been serviced along with all fresh fluids, brakes, and both ball joints.
A Carfax report accompanies the car showing history since 2006. This 1990 300D 4Matic is now being offered by the seller with the factory toolkit, manufacturer’s literature, one key, and a clean Florida title.
The videos ytaken by the seller incude exterior and interior previews along with start-up and driving functions.
Is there anything more indicative of W124 build quality than a diesel E-Class? With the W123 setting the benchmark for Mercedes reliability, the W124 shouldn't be overlooked for its 21st century adaptability and timless styling. For these reasons, and many more, the W124 is one of our favorite Mercedes-Benz models. This European market example displays just enough funk in the color combo combined with A/C and a power sunroof to really appeal to the enthusiast in us. Not only is this W124 a diesel, it also comes with a turbo to help speed things along and 4Matic to keep you moving in the right direction. A true enthusiast’s car, we hope this example finds a home that continues to appreciate it for all the right reasons.

@mannyab2460 Thanks for the additional photos.
@jspitz Hello I added 3 pictures of the only 3 spots I could find on the chassis and/or doors, in addition to the antenna. I was told that the car was in a garage in Montreal before with the previous owner. Please let me know if you need anything else. Pics already uploaded and to be activated by TheMBmarket hopefully today.
@jspitz Hello I am posting some pictures today...it seem some type of corrugated plastic that was put there to prevent, I guess, snow or something from coming inside. The car had a heavy coat of some type of protection. You can see on door pictures some details as well.
@phkiii I do not know if the car was advertised on classic.com or other sites before I purchased it. I bought if after I saw it on BaT.
@jspitz Correct on BaT. Please see my comment above about the km. Please let me know if you want more details (when it was purchased or arrived to Florida, I believe I have that information)
@phkiii Hello. I bought the car from BaT. The car was in Canada at the time and took over there months to bring it to Florida (snow storms and other issues). It later took me several weeks to get it registered. Pierre Hedary (Mechanic in Titusville) worked on the car (mainly AC) after I got it licensed in Florida. Later I notice the odometer not working properly. Some times it would work and some times it would not. I informed about this situation to The MB Market. I honestly do not know if the miles reflected when I bought the car were a true representation of how many miles have been put on the engine. I do not think I have driven the car the 6,000 miles. I traveled overseas for some months and when in town I would not drive it on long distance trip. Just around town. I am posting another picture with the odometer reading as of today...incidentally the odometer has been working for the last days and you can see 59 km registered.
@Bugi1952 Hello, Yes, absolutely. I am located in Indialantic, Florida. You can come an test drive the car any time. I am in real estate and am in an out. I will send you my address and phone as well.
Note that it sold on BaT in Dec. 2021 and had 1000km less on the clock then.
Not sure if this matters, but this vehicle was on classic.com (the current listing refers to here) about 2 years ago, with the same mileage. That site has a history of listing. Yes, I know it says TMU. I am still intrigued in the car, but it would appear the odometer/speedometer is less than intermittent as noted in the post, if I read that right. The post also states that the current owner added 6000 of the 95,000? Can you clarify some of this?

Can I go and see the car in person
Thanks, @mannyab2460. It's hard to tell in the photos, but is there any bowing or distortion in the cladding on the doors? Especially on the passenger side it looks like the lower edge is potentially detached or is otherwise not quite tracking with the lower door edge. Also, it looks like there is some wavy rubber (a seal or something else?) on the lower door sill itself. Any chance you could include some photos of those areas as well? Much appreciated!
@jspitz Hello Jspitz, absolutely, I will take a picture with a close up around the antenna and try to find any other spots. This W124 lived for a while in Montreal, Canada. When I came to Florida it was heavily protected against underneath rusting with some type of thick coat. Also wanted to thank you @nrajput90 and @ottobenz for the nice comments regarding the W124. I am not an expert but I feel it is a very special car. Thanks.
Wow, I never knew I wanted one of these until now. @mannyab2460, would it be possible to post close-up photos of the corrosion referenced in the description?
What a rare W124! Hope it goes to a good home. GLWA!
This is a real unicorn. Mercedes made 2,136 of these over 7 years including series 1, 2, and 3 W124s (averaging around 300 per year). This is a series-2 W124, so I'd estimate this is one of maybe 1200 units ever made. Wonder how many have survived? Never sold in the US though.
