A walkaround and driving video has been provided by the seller below.
The W124 is a bonafide classic in enthusiast circles but the V8-powered 400E has been consistently underrated next to its Porsche-built big brother the 500E. These 8-cylinder sedans provide power, comfort and legendary reliability while sporting a sacco-designed suit that fits the bill. This example comes finished in an iconic Smoke Silver Metallic and is complete with the original window sticker and fully documented service history. Considering the reliability and build-quality of the W124 platform, this 400E is sure to provide its new owner with many more years of luxury V8 motoring.

Such an underrated car. A nice combination with the 8 cylinder. Hope it finds a deserving home.

A good friend of mine has one of these with over 325k miles on it and it runs like new. The build quality on the W124 is something to appreciate.

@joncf I appreciate your input. My wagon is special to me, it doesn’t have to be special to you or anyone else. Good luck 🤙
Are you seriously keeping a Euro spec W124 wagon in favor of a 400E? Are you crazy? The standard Euro spec cars are dirt cheap and plentiful in Europe and nothing special, while a 400E is fairly rare, highly desirable, sought-after and expensive. Far fewer 400E's were made than any of the lower spec W124's, including the wagons. Most Europeans would consider a 400E a "car for life," because of how special it is and how great of a car it really is. They'd laugh at favoring a lower spec W124 wagon over an incredible 400E. I'm sure most Americans would laugh as well. I suppose people want what they can't have, and a cheaper Euro spec W124 is more "special" to you because they were offered in the US... making them even more rare in the country.

@flexibility026 I would think so, but that would be the responsibility of the buyer.
Thank you. She’s a very photogenic car that’s for sure.
@JLKMB the clear nearly all over is crazed. The right way would be a full respray if someone’s looking for perfection I would think. I’ve heard of people wet sanding most of the crazing and reapplying clear coat but I’m not an expert, maybe someone else can shed more light on that. The car looks great from 10 feet but up close it’s clearly crazed. The photos do a pretty good job with of presenting the paints condition.
Can the paint be recovered or is this complete respray territory?
I wished the auctions were shorter, like 2 days 😊
@flexibility026 I would imagine it would be but that would be the responsibility of the buyer.
Is it possible to ship to the Netherlands?
@janos_z that’s about the size of it. I’ve only had the car for a few months but we have been able to enjoy it quite a bit this fall. My wife and I found this one locally to clean up and move on as I have a pretty special euro spec 124 wagon and that one’s a keeper for life. I would have loved to sort every little thing out before listing but winter is coming and I don’t have space for all of my current stuff so we listed it as it sits. All of the windows work on this car, the passenger side is just off track. I will sort that before anyone takes delivery and I’m planning to replace the rear rotors as well before delivery. The clear failure/crazing is the biggest issue on it but it looks great from 15 feet. I assume it had something to do with living in the Florida sun, reportedly garaged, for nearly all of its life and then moving up to New England but who really knows why they fail.
As a former 400E owner, I am very fond of these cars. It's nice to see the seller actually put some miles on it! @Dpanthony13, how long have you owned it? Since the ad copy sprinkles the information here and there, just wanted to recap the stated issues with the car: 1) the passenger-side power mirror not working; 2) rear rotors warped; 3) passenger-side window not working; 4) failing clear coat. Is there anything else? Any leaks? The honest photographic presentation and service records are a plus. With a little refreshing, this could be someone's beloved daily driver for a long time to come. I still miss mine - and I say that as a current 500E owner! Good luck with the auction!
Very nice car, good luck
@Rosenfe I do not have record of it in the receipts that were provided to me. I have not seen indication of any current failure on this car so it’s possible, perhaps probable that it’s been addressed but I have no direct documentation in the paperwork that I have on the car.
Any history of wiring harnesses being replaced
