This 1994 Mercedes-Benz E420 4.2 AMG Stage III is reportedly one of only 16 Stage III examples built by AMG Japan receiving both cosmetic and mechanical upgrades. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over Black Leather (271), power is provided by a 4.2-liter M119 V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. AMG modifications consist of a tuned M119 V8 with specific cams, an AMG exhaust, 17” two-piece wheels, lowered suspension with stiffer dampers, a full AMG body kit with fender flares specific to the 4.2 AMG, an AMG gauge cluster, and more. Additional factory equipment includes a power sunroof, heated Recaro front sport seats, automatic climate control, Burl Walnut wood trim and an Active Bass sound system. Recent maintenance includes new injectors, a complete fluid change and new brake discs front and rear. This E420 4.2 AMG Stage III now shows 150k km (~93k miles), and is offered for sale with Japanese service history, the original manufacturer’s literature and a clean UAE title in the current owner’s name.
Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) paint covers the AMG body work which consists of sculpted front and rear bumpers, side skirts and fender flares which were exclusive to the 4.2 AMG. Exterior equipment includes headlamp wiper/washers, a power sliding sunroof, power mirrors, an automatic antenna and an eccentric-sweep wiper. Photos of the AMG part numbers have been included by the seller. The car was reportedly repainted by the seller to remediate fading clear coat. No signs of damage or corrosion are present on the body.
The car wears its original 17” AMG BBS Aero II RT Multi-piece wheels which come wrapped in a set of Bridgestone Ecopia tires which measure 225/45 on all four corners with date codes from 2012. Signs of curb rash are visible on the wheels. Original modification included lowered AMG suspension with matching stiffer dampers which have been documented by the seller in the photo gallery. The seller reports that the front and rear brake discs were recently replaced.
The cabin comes trimmed in Black Leather (271) which lines the Recaro sport seats and extends to the dash and door panels with Burl Walnut wood trim accents. Both front seats are power adjustable and heated with position memory for the driver. Additional interior amenities include automatic climate control, cruise control, a wood shift knob, stainless AMG door sill plates, an aftermarket head unit and a signed AMG ash tray cover.
The wood/leather steering wheel fronts an AMG gauge cluster with a 300-km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. A digital outside temperature sensor is mounted centrally at the bottom of the cluster. The six-digit odometer currently shows just under 150k km from new or approximately 93k miles.
This W124 is powered by a 4.2-liter M119 V8 which received AMG modifications including specific camshafts, a tune and an AMG exhaust which allow the engine to produce 312 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The seller reports that the car recently received a full service including a complete fluid flush and new injectors. Extensive Japanese service history is included with the car. Underbody photos provided by the seller show no signs of corrosion.
This E420 was initially sold in Japan where it received its modifications from AMG Japan and was later imported to the United Arab Emirates by the seller. A total of 77 units were produced with reportedly only 16 receiving the full Stage III modifications including the body kit, suspension and engine upgrades. Now showing 150k km (~93k miles), this E420 4.2 AMG Stage III is offered for sale by the current owner in Dubai, UAE with the original manufacturer’s literature and a clean UAE title in the seller’s name.
An exterior walk-around and driving video has been provided by the seller below.
The AMG 4.2 Stage III - known as the Nippon Hammer in some circles - combines the best of pre-merger AMG greatness and JDM enthusiast fanboy-ism to create one of the coolest (and rarest) pre-merger AMGs to ever run the roads. With both cosmetic and mechanical upgrades performed in-house by AMG Japan, this is a "real deal" as it gets from both a collectibility and performance standpoint. While others might drool over the fender flares, larger-displacement and Porsche-linked connection of the 500E/E500 of the same era, those still aren't AMG cars...and having driven one of the other 16 Stage III cars ourselves, we can attest that they certainly rival (if not exceed) the performance and excitement of the 500E on many levels. Given the recent market trends of per-merger AMG’s, this 4.2 Stage III offers a phenomenal opportunity to purchase a unique piece of AMG history.

This listing was successfully sold post auction at $32,000 to the high bidder. Congratulations to both the buyer and seller!
@gsxr Cool. I did not know that.
@sortova, no W124 with V8 engines were ever produced as RHD. Only 4/5/6 cylinder 124 chassis were available as RHD. Although Japan is a RHD market, driving a LHD car in Japan was a status symbol.
I'm curious as to what the reserve was on this car. I would assume about US$3K to get it to the US (East Coast) and prolly another $2K to get it through import [although since it is a) a Mercedes and b) over 25 years old it should be simple enough]. As someone who is looking for a 500E/E500 this was kind of a cool alternative, and much more rare. Surprised it was LHD but aimed at the Japanese market.

@edand we used dryice blasting to refresh underbody, underbody sprayed with anti rust coat.
Lots of photos of the apparently recently refreshed and repainted suspension parts and rear subframe. When was that work done? What was replaced during it vs. retained and repainted?
