This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL is finished in Papyrus White (717) over Black MB-Tex and powered by a 2.3-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a paint-matched removable Pagoda hardtop, black soft top, 14″ steel wheels, painted hubcaps, an Alpine radio and speakers, and an analog clock. The car was acquired by the seller in December 2020 as a Christmas gift for his wife and has been used sparingly as a weekend driver during the warmer seasons. This W113 now shows 97k miles on the odometer and is being offered by the seller in Virginia with a tool kit, owner’s manual, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.

Finished from the factory in Papyrus White (717), the body was repainted under previous ownership according to the seller. Exterior features include a removable body-color Pagoda hardtop, black convertible soft top, left-side mirror and chrome-finished bumpers to match the window trim, door handles, and grille. The seller notes touch up paint along the edge of the driver door, a rock chip on the passenger front fender, and faded chrome trim around the rear passenger tail light. Body-color 14” steel wheels feature matching hubcaps with chrome beauty rings and are mounted with white-stripe GoodYear tires measuring 195/75 all around. The left rear hubcap shows some paint chipping. A full-size spare is found in the trunk along with the original tools.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Black MB-Tex with perforated inserts and a matching dashboard top, door panels, and gray carpets. White body-colored trim adorns the front of the dashboard along with natural wood along the top. Amenities include a VDO analog clock, an Alpine head unit with upgraded speakers, a locking glove box, and wooden center storage tray.

A black two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring frames VDO instrumentation including a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, a 140-mph speedometer, and a centered combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 97k miles and total mileage is unknown. A slight imperfection on the steering wheel center pad is documented in the gallery.

The 2.3-liter M127 inline-six features Bosch mechanical fuel injection and was factory rated at 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. This 230SL also is equipped with power-assisted steering which remains tight with no slop. The seller reports that the car has previously undergone a mechanical refurbishment but does not have any accompanying documentation. There is currently an oil leak which appears to come from the oil pan drain plug. The engine plaque on the block appears to be original to the car as well as the fire wall insulation.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The inside of the chromed bumpers are believed to remain original due to their chalky white finish. Additional underbody images are provided in the gallery.

The MB Market Insights

The W113 truly embodies what a Mercedes SL is supposed to be. Glamorous and luxurious, it cost nearly twice as much as a 4.2 E-Type when new and values are consistently on the rise today. The classic body lines are timeless and these cars have aged wonderfully. This 230SL presents very nicely and comes with power assisted steering and the original hardtop. At some point prior to the seller’s ownership, the car received fresh paint in the factory white and has been mechanically well-kept. We can only imagine what a great Christmas it was when the seller surprised his wife with this SL. He recalls the weather was clear that day and after removing the oversized red bow affixed to the top, they took it for their first spin around the block. (We suppose that's one way to buy yourself a car for Christmas.) The car has served as a loyal weekend cruiser and is now ready for another fortunate owner to experience the joy of Pagoda ownership. If there was ever a car to purchase today without worry of depreciation, this is certainly it.

@MadMax There is no rust on the body of the car anywhere. I also included a number underbody photos too and found no evidence of rust. It's a very clean car inside and out. Thank you for your question!

A close friend of mine had a similar SL and I cannot tell even begin to tell you how many people would stop to admire the car. No matter where we went, this car got all of the attention in the best way possible. These really are special cars that can actually be driven and enjoyed.
