This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D was originally sold by Spartan Motors out of Poughkeepsie, New York on October 29th, 1982. The car remained with the original owners through November 2021 until the sale was entrusted to the original owners daughter and son-in-law. This W123 is finished in Orient Red (501) over a Palomino MB-Tex (154) interior and power comes from a 2.4L naturally-aspirated four cylinder diesel paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The car shows an original 66k miles from new, all of which were added by the original owners. Standard features include power steering, air conditioning, heated rear glass, fog lamps, cruise control, and an automatic antenna. Optional features from new include a Becker Europa Cassette player and radio, floor mats, and rust proofing installed by the dealer and notated on the original bill of sale. This 1983 240D shows a documented 66k miles and is offered with factory literature, original window sticker and bill of sale, service records, owner's manual, first aid kit, and a clean Connecticut title.
The car is finished in Orient Red (501) and features chrome-accented North American-spec bumpers and trim, glass headlamps, a power antenna, and an electrically adjustable passenger-side mirror. The trim, brightwork, and glass are reportedly original to the car and in great condition. No rust is reported on the chassis or body and it’s been stored in a climate controlled garage for decades. The seller reports the passenger side lower rear quarter and lower rear door were painted previously due to a scratch occurring during maintenance along with the hood and fenders from a mishap in the owners garage.
The original Bundt 14″ steel wheels were replaced in 1996 with OEM alloy Bundt wheels. The alloys are wrapped in Michelin Harmony tires measuring 195/70 on all four corners.
The cabin features seats upholstered in Palomino MB-Tex (154) with matching Palomino door panels, carpets, and floor mats. The dashboard and center console are trimmed in black along with the steering wheel and shift knob. Zebrano wood trim adorns the dashboard and center console with no cracks visible. Equipment includes climate control with factory air conditioning, cruise control, manual-wind windows, central door locks, and an original Becker Europa Cassette player.
Original VDO instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and additional auxiliary gauges include coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level which all function properly. The six-digit odometer shows 66k original miles.
The 2.4-liter OM616 diesel inline-four produced 67 horsepower and 97 lb-ft of torque when new and is paired to an automatic four-speed transmission. In preparation for the sale, a complete fluid flush was performed along with inspection and hood pad replacement. Documentation showing regular maintenance throughout the ownership is shown in the gallery below.

@vmcammarata Hello, One of the receipts listed below the pictures is for Evacuate and Charge A/C system. That service was performed on 8/5/21. At that time a conversion to R124 freon was used and 2 lbs. of freon was loaded and the A/C was functioning correctly. The mechanic, who has been servicing the vehicle for many years, indicated the A/C is operating properly. I have yet to check it this year as it has not been warm enough to use the A/C. If there is any issue, it will be serviced before a sale. The service on 8/5/21 was a complete service including the replacement of the hood blanket and was a total of $832. The service was performed by European Autoworks, Inc., Greenwich, CT, by Jakov Saric. Thank you for your question.
Hello. Can you tell me if the A/c works or needs to be upgraded?
No GPS, no bluetooth, no satellite radio, no seat warmers or vents, hand-crank windows, and 67 hp. And yet this car is so lustworthy. As long as the earth is spinning, it will do perfectly what it was designed to do, and do it with style. Bravo.
Beautiful shape. Closest thing to a Forever Car out there.
