This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300SDL is finished in Pajett Red Metallic (587) over Red Leather (277) and is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power adjustable front seats with memory, a power tilt/slide sunroof, a power adjustable steering column, automatic climate control and cruise control. Recent maintenance consists of an engine oil and oil filter change, a new fuel filter, a reupholstered driver seat and a new set of tires. This 300SDL shows 153k miles and is now being offered by the current owner in Marietta, Georgia with the original tool kit, a spare tire, a clean Carfax report and a clean Georgia title.
The exterior is finished in Pajett Red Metallic (587) and features contrasting lower body cladding and a chrome grille. Exterior features include a power tilt/slide sunroof, heated side mirrors with a power adjustable passenger side, an electrically heated rear window and headlamp wiper/washers. The lower body cladding shows signs of fading clear coat and the seller notes that the sticker on the trunk has been removed. No signs of rust are present on the body.
Fitted are 15” Gullideckel wheels which come wrapped in a set of Sceptor 4XS all-season tires measuring 215/70 on all four corners. The seller recently purchased the tires within the past 50 miles. The finish on the wheels is beginning to show signs of discoloration.
The cabin comes upholstered in Red Leather (277) and features Zebrano wood trim lining the center console, dashboard and door panels. Cracking in the wood trim is visible on the center console. Interior features include power adjustable front seats with memory, a power adjustable steering column, automatic climate control, cruise control and an aftermarket Kenwood head unit. The driver seat was recently reupholstered, and the seller notes that the dash lights do not come on and the front passenger side window is not functional.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer along with a 6k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. A row of warning lights is placed below with a digital outside temperature sensor mounted in the middle. The six-digit odometer reads 153k miles, true mileage is unknown. The seller states that the odometer stopped working under his ownership and has since added 2k miles.
This W126 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine which is factory rated at 148 horsepower and 201 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Recent maintenance includes an engine oil and filter change as well as a new fuel filter.
The Carfax report shows Georgia registration which was first reported in 1998 and shows no accidents or damage reports. This 300SDL is now offered with the original tool kit, a spare tire, a clean Carfax report and a clean Georgia title.
Videos demonstrating a cold start and driving have been included by the seller.
In 1978, Mercedes-Benz offered the W116 300SD which became the first turbocharged diesel car available in the United States. Mercedes would later follow that up with the W126 300SDL which used the newer six-cylinder OM603 engine which produced up to 200 lb-ft of torque. Paired with classic styling and the ever-lasting build quality of the W126, the 300SDL still provides a great option for those looking to purchase a classic Mercedes worthy of daily duty. This example comes finished in Pajett Red Metallic over an exceptionally 80’s red interior with modern features such as a power sunroof and power front seats with memory. These cars still offer great value for money and this example should provide many more years of Mercedes diesel motoring.

@KingKitty If it has a "14" or "15" head (the second to the last pair of numbers in the casting number - 603 016 (15) 01 ) it has not been changed/updated and is prone to leakage.
@zoccierampqt The casting number is located above the #2/#3 injector recesses. More on this number and it's location here: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/289965-om602-om603-cyl-head-revision-reference.html
@KingKitty a quick google search indicates that "These can be found on the block, cylinder head, transmission case, differential housing, and other cast iron parts. Depending on the make and model of your vehicle they can be located in different areas" ---- I am not sure if this is easily accessible, or it is common information that can is easily available like VIN# or in a Mercedes manual. Can you direct me where and how I can obtain this for you?
@zoccierampqt I'm not in the immediate area, so that's not an option. Please identify the head casting number if you would.

@KingKitty - you are welcome to stop by and see the car to address any questions you may have. I can also offer to do a video call anytime tomorrow or Monday. As for oil consumption, I check the level and never had to top off, I am sure there is some burning, being a 35+ year diesel with over 150K miles.

Lots of little details suggest this car hasn't been well maintained. More importantly, what's the oil consumption like and what is the casting number on the cylinder head?

@CaliFresh Thanks!! - the color is what really attracted me to the car. Nelson Mandela had a Red W126 which is now displayed in his museum in Johannesburg. I went there for a school assignment, but for three hours just stood and admired his Red W126, needless to say, did not get a good grade in the class. Fast forward 10+ years, I come across this, with the added benefit of no rust, matching interior, working AC and long ownership history, I was sold. I am downsizing the collection, and hence why this is here.
What a color! Lots of life in this one and only a little TLC needed. Bet it outlives us all

@silkyatl - Hi - Let me answer all of them. Accidents - None. Clean Carfax. Motor - Running fine Tranny - Has been replaced with a new transmission. There is a seal on the transmission with a date code. I remember seeing this clearly when I purchased. The car goes through all the gear and depends on how fast / slow you are shifting gears, you will see / hear the progression of gears in different rpms. Wood Trim - yes, there is some cracking, please zoom on interior pics All Windows working, the front passenger is intermittent - sometimes, when I press the button in a certain way it works. I am going to check it this weekend. Heater and AC is working Oil leaks - none on the ground, there is old oil smudge in the lower areas of the engine, I have never had to top off in my ownership. I am sure there is some seepage Smoking from Exhaust pipes - can you be little more specific please, do you mean, does the engine burn oil?
Hello---has thi auto been in any accident----iare the motor and tranny working as they should---is there iany cracking of the wood trim on the cosole and door panels----how many widow motors are working properly.---what about the heater and air conditions working.----no oil leaks or smoking from the exhaust pipes????
All - quick update, the front passenger window is a lose switch connection. It is operational at times, probably the contacts needs to be cleaning. I will check and can have it fixed it before the sale.
