This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC shows just three owners with family ownership for the past three decades displaying 115k miles from new. Finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) over Gray Leather (278), power is provided by a 5.5-liter V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Equipment includes automatic climate control, a power sliding sunroof, heated front seats with power adjustment and memory, cruise control and an adjustable power steering column. Maintenance records dating back to 1992, when the seller's Uncle first acquired the car, are included with the most recent maintenance consisting of a full fluid flush, new headliner, fuel accumulator and auxiliary fan switch along with an AC service. This 560SEC is now offered for sale by the current owner in Los Angeles, California with both keys, over 100 pages of service documentation, the original tool kit, original manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report and a clean California title.
The exterior is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) with contrasting gray lower body cladding. Chrome trim is found along the beltline as well as both front and rear bumpers. Exterior equipment includes headlight wiper/washers, a heated rear window, front fog lamps and a power sliding sunroof. The sunroof slide angle brackets were replaced in November 2022. The seller notes that the car previously received touch up work to the passenger side door along with repainted front and rear bumpers. Rock chips are present at the front of the car and paint meter readings have been included by the seller.
Chrome-finished 15” Gullideckel wheels wear Ohtsu all-season tires measuring 225/60 on all four corners. The 560SEC features four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes along with a self-leveling rear suspension system. A spare tire and tool kit are included in the trunk.
The cabin is trimmed in Gray Leather (278) and features Burl Walnut wood trim which can be found on the center console, dashboard and door panels. The front seats are heated and power adjustable with two-position memory. Interior features include automatic climate control, cruise control, a power telescoping steering column and an aftermarket Alpine head unit with an auxiliary input. The current owner had the headliner replaced with Mercedes vinyl in August 2022.
The leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer along with a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, fuel economy, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer currently reads 115k miles with just 400 being added by the current owner in the past 10 months. A row of warning lights sits below with a digital outside temperature indicator mounted in the center.
This pillarless coupe is powered by a 5.5-liter M117 V8 which is factory rated at 238 horsepower and 287 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Recent maintenance performed under current ownership includes a full fluid flush in July 2022 and a new fuel accumulator, auxiliary switch fan, AC seals and recharge in November 2022. The current owner purchased the car from their Uncle who had owned the car since 1992 and has included nearly 100 pages of service documents from the past thirty years which can be viewed in the photo gallery below.
The Carfax report shows linear mileage updates starting in 1992 with no accidents or damage reports. This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC is now offered with both keys, service records, the original tool kit, original manufacturer’s literature, a spare tire, a clean Carfax report and a clean California title.
Videos including a cold start, driving and walk around have been included by the seller.
The 560SEC is a design icon of its time and represented a culture of excess that fed on the nicest luxury cars that money could buy. Coming from the golden era of Bruno Sacco design, the C126 features monolithic styling including a strong shoulder line, imposing front-end and the classic pillarless greenhouse. The tank-like doors provide entry to a cabin whose fit and finish is unrivaled and features the finest in leather and wood trim. Almost nothing in the car is manually operated and everything that can be controlled by the touch of a button. The 560SEC truly embodied the pinnacle of luxury in its time and continues to deliver that experience many years on. This example has been exceptionally well cared for by its previous owners and will make for a perfect example for a Mercedes enthusiast looking to add a taste of the eighties to their collection.

Hello All and welcome to my 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC Background: The vehicle was bought used in 1992 by my uncle. He and his wife adored the vehicle and took really good car of it. They serviced it regularly and have all the records dating back to 1992. They always garaged and covered it. After his wife passed he tucked it away for two years, and offered it to me. Never wrecked, and body was never worked on. My Service Records: Upon taking possession of the vehicle, it was in great shape. I drove it around in Los Angeles heat and traffic just fine. I wanted to make the car near perfect, so I went and did all the fluid flush and filter changes. Then had the headliner reupholstered in real Mercedes-Benz vinyl. After that, I sent the vehicle to THE Beverly Laurel Automotive. I made sure to go through every single item. They replaced the fuel accumulator, AC compressor seal, antenna grommet, sunroof slide angle, recharge the AC, and AUX fan switch. Notable Items: 1. Beverly Laurel Automotive recommends that the vehicle could use a new set of track rod bushings, lower ball joints, subframe mounts, and resealing of the power steering gearbox. Though all these items are in great working and functioning order, the recommendation comes due to age. The vehicle has no leaks. 2. The tires are dated in 2015, though they ride and handle just fine. Damages/Items not working: 1. Driver door - clear coat is wearing/pealing top of the door handle. My guess is this is where they used the place their hands to shut the door. 2. Driver seat back side - has wear on the leather 3. Passenger side door has a long scratch that has been touched up by previous owner. 4. Rocks chips on the front of the car. Good Luck to everyone!
Absolutely beautiful classic coupe and affordable daily driver. As the prior owner of a 1991 560SEL sedan, I'm tempted! Good luck with this auction.
