This 1990 Mercedes-Benz 1000SEL “Carat Duchatelet'' originated from the Mercedes-Benz Duisberg Branch before being shipped to Japan. The car relocated to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates when the current owner acquired the car in 2021. The car currently shows 46k kilometers (~28k miles) and is finished in Midnight Blue (904) over Blue Leather (262) and powered by a 5.5-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Factory options and amenities include power heated front and rear seats, an airbag steering wheel, a rear roller blind, and factory optioned fire extinguisher. Additional Carat Duchatelet features include burl wood door card inserts, a burl wood armrest and tables in the rear, a television with storage box in the dashboard, a mini refrigerator, and curtains in the sides and rear for passengers. This W126 is now being offered by the seller with the factory tool kit, spare tire, and a clean Japan title in the seller’s name.
The exterior is finished in Midnight Blue (904) with European-spec narrow bumpers, single-piece glass headlamps, and dark amber corner lamps. A chrome parking pole can be seen at the front passenger corner of the car and a metal plate mount on the front bumper. Gold badging adorns the rear decklid and the Carat Duchatelet “1000SEL'' script can be seen in place of factory badging. The seller notes the car received a repaint in Japan in the factory Midnight Blue paint.
Factory 15″ Gullideckel alloy wheels wear Toyo tires measuring 205/65 all around. Four-wheel independent suspension and anti-lock disc brakes were standard equipment for 1990.
The cabin is trimmed in Blue Leather (252) with color-matched door inserts and carpets. Burl wood veneers accent the dashboard and center console from the factory. Equipment includes heated and powered front and rear seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, and power-operated windows. Additional interior upgrades from Carat Duchatelet include burl wood door card inserts, a burl wood armrest and tables in the rear, a television with storage box in the dashboard, a mini refrigerator, and curtains in the sides and rear for passengers. The burl wood inserts on the doors show some cracking along flat surfaces. A Sony XR-747 head unit with a 10-disc CD changer can be seen in the center console and the convex Panasonic TV is connected to a VHS player mounted in the trunk.
Instrumentation includes a 260-kph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as a clock and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 46k kilometers (~28k miles).
The Euro 5.5-liter SOHC M117 V8 was factory rated at an estimated 270 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Photos of the engine bay and underside of the engine are included in the gallery.
This 1990 Mercedes-Benz 1000SEL “Carat Duchatelet'' is now being offered by the seller with the factory tool kit, spare tire, and a clean Japan title in the seller’s name.
Videos provided by the seller show a walk around along with the engine idling, and a driving video.

CD these days seems to make mostly armored cars. Is this car also armored?
LOVE THIS! Having grown up in Egypt, there were a few 1000SELs driving around the streets of Cairo. Years later, I found out that my now-father-in-law actually had one during the period. White exterior, all custom white interior, and front & rear TVs. Never got a chance to see a picture of it, unfortunately. Just stories from my father-in-law and my wife when she was growing up. No idea which tuning house made it either. For anyone who doesn't know, 1000SELs were really popular in the 80s & 90s; always brimming with luxury features and highest quality fit & finish as well as all the technology they could pack in there. Clarion HiFi systems, multiple phones, TVs & VHS players in cars were unheard of, at the time. They were models offered by multiple tuning houses (mostly German) and were the utmost statement in opulence. Think Maybach, today, when a mere S600 Merc is not luxurious enough. http://1000sel.com/ is a fun read for anyone who has some time Can you tell I like these? :)
Cool car, always dug CD's work. That said, again like the last euro 560 that went through here this is NOT a 300hp ECE/822 option code car. Once more, 270 is your Best case scenario with out tri ys and an unknown camshaft version.
