For many, the W140 S-Class represents the peak of Sacco-era legendary Mercedes design and construction. After over a billion dollars in development, the W140 became perhaps the most sought-after and well-loved Mercedes globally; used by heads of state and diplomatic envoys even today across the world. Exterior styling is reminiscent of the late 80’s combined with cutting edge technology and a fresh perspective intended to welcome the 90’s with open arms and minds. Sacco designed the perfect sedan with the W140 which provided ultimate comfort in a package that exudes class from every angle. This early-model example features the contrasting lower body cladding indicative of these early 90’s cars which suits the Brilliant Silver Metallic exceptionally well. Final 30 minutes! Bidders, don’t forget to make sure your payment info is up to date. And a gentle reminder that there’s no need to wait til the buzzer, as the timer resets automatically with another 2 minutes. Cheers.
Thanks @124guy. She’s been babied!
I can't remember the last time I saw a 140 like this that didn't have a warped or cracked lower front bumper. Looks like a really nice SEL!
W140s use timing chains, @dengreene, and my understanding is that they'll need replacement anywhere between 100k and 200k depending on oil change frequency. The timing chain has not been replaced under my ownership, and I don't have a record of it previously; I've had several mechanics go over the vehicle and they have not advised replacement (yet), though the new owner might consider it for peace of mind.
Does this car use a timing belt or a timing chain? If a belt, when was it last changed along with the water pump. Thanks!
Thanks for your bids so far! Still a bit to go to meet reserve, but hoping we can close the gap so this wonderful W140 can find a good home. Please don’t leave your questions til the last minute— I’m eager to answer any inquires that come up.

A walk around video has been added to the listing.
A walkaround video has been uploaded here: https://youtu.be/J364_716HVA I'll try to shoot a driving video this weekend; meanwhile, please feel free to ask any questions and schedule a test drive if you're in the Los Angeles area!
@waterhazard Hi , that work receipt confused me. I haven't seen any evidence of water damage anywhere on the vehicle and there are zero musty smells in the cabin, and the Carfax is clean. The mechanic mentioned it was under the rear seat when he was replacing a sensor under the rear seat , so maybe it was an isolated case of water ingress. Regardless, the vehicle is now clean and everything works (HVAC, soft close, rear antenna masts, etc) apart from the items mentioned in the description.
One of the work orders mentioned flood damage. Can you detail/describe the damage? What happened to "it never rains in California?"

@B_R_W awesome! My wife had much the same reaction when I brought a W140 home. I love them though.
Sounds good @MBOregon, and yeah, I've got a few Better Half Drive vids in the can I need to edit!
@B_R_W Thanks for the reply. I may be interested in the wheels in any event. I enjoy the ‘Better Half’ videos! You should do more!
@MBOregon Hi there , they won't come with the car, but I can discuss selling them separately if the buyer is interested.
Do the mono blocks the car has in the video come with it?

Hello and welcome to my first MB Market auction! I purchased this 400 SEL locally from its original owner, who was selling because she had purchased a V12 S-Class. A woman after my own heart She babied her baby and insisted on only hand washing it, never running it through a car wash—a rule I’ve upheld during my ownership. I’ve addressed every mechanical need I could find (see $8,400 in receipts), and apart from the date codes on the tires I’d be fully confident driving this cross-country. I’m sad to see this amazing sedan go, but with another 140 and three other cars in the garage it’s time to find the next caretaker. Please don’t hesitate to throw any questions my way, and I’m happy to arrange a test drive and/or PPI for serious parties. Thanks and happy bidding. Cheers, Basem Wasef
