This 1998 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG was owned by Mercedes-Benz when new for 1-2k miles and moved to Manhattan Beach, California in 1999 with the first registered owner. The second owner, a lifetime Southern California resident has kept the car in Aptos, CA since purchasing the C43 in 2007 with 31k miles on the odometer. The car now shows 156,921 documented miles, 125k of which have been added by the seller since 2007. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over a Silver and Black (588) Nappa Leather interior, power comes from an AMG-tuned 4.3-liter M113 V8 paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. Recent service includes a B-Service plus a new fuel filter, new water pump, new spark plugs, a transmission fluid and filter service, and a fresh smog renewal for California registration. This C43 is one of 579 units shipped for the North American market in 1998 and one of 1125 total C43’s in the market. Features include an electric tilt/slide sunroof, automatic climate control, a ski bag pass through between the rear seat and trunk, and heated front seats. This C43 AMG currently shows 156,921 miles on the odometer and is offered with manufacturer's literature, two original keys, unused custom sheepskin seat covers, thorough maintenance records since new, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
The car is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) and features AMG-specific ground effects including sculpted bumpers, side skirts, and AMG twin exhaust. Additional exterior features include a power sunroof, integrated antenna, and factory smoked tail lamps. The accident-free Carfax denotes a clean history and paintwork appears to be original. The lower grille insert is noted to be missing.
Staggered 17” AMG Monoblock wheels are finished in silver-painted faces with machined lips. The wheels show light signs of curb rash on the lips. All four wheels wear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires measuring 225/45 up front and 245/40 out back with 2020 date codes all around.
The cabin is trimmed in Silver and Black (588) Nappa Leather across the seats, door cards, head rests, shift knob, and steering wheel. All leather surfaces are reported to be original and nicely kept. The steering wheel retains original Black leather accented with perforated silver upper leather while the stock shift knob matches with a silver leather insert. Original C43 AMG embroidered floor mats remain in the cabin and can be seen in the gallery below. The center console, door cards, cup holder, and upper dashboard are accented with Burl Walnut veneers with the upper dash showing no signs of fading or cracking. The center console around the shift knob shows some light dappling in the veneer and the mirror adjustment knob is broken but still functional. Features include power adjustable mirrors, power adjustable and heated front seats, automatic climate control, the stock Becker head unit, and power lowering rear headrests.
The digital odometer shows 156,921 original miles, 125k of which have been added by the seller since 2007. White AMG instrument dials include a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer along with gauges for engine temperature and fuel level. Digital readouts display the time and outside temperature with all pixels displaying as they should.
The 4.3-liter M113 V8 was factory rated at 302 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque and drives the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The seller has kept all records since new, which can be viewed in the gallery below. Most recently, services include a B-Service plus a new fuel filter, new water pump, new spark plugs, a transmission fluid and filter service, and a fresh smog renewal for California registration. In addition the owners long-term technician has checked the engine for any leaks and the report came back clean in preparation for the sale.
This C43 AMG currently shows 156,921 miles on the odometer and is offered with manufacturer's literature, two original keys, unused custom sheepskin seat covers, thorough maintenance records since new, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
As one of just over 1000 examples produced for the US market, it’s easy to overlook just how rare the W202 AMG cars are, especially today as many have met their fate or suffer from extensive modification. From power and handling to refinement and class, the W202 C43 AMG does it all and this mid-merger example has our attention for a number of reasons. Most of all, records like these are rarely seen more than 20 years into ownership and certainly shouldn’t be overlooked from a value perspective. The M113 is a staple V8 of AMG heritage and continues to be one of the most robust and reliable engines ever offered. These analog V8’s have already been phased out of the market and become rarer by the year. Don’t miss an opportunity to own one of the last true AMG muscle cars.

thanks everyone...quite the rush at the end there
Headlight wipers were part of the option package for xenon headlights. The only other option on these in the USA in 1998 was rain sensing wipers, I believe.
Nice price!
I love how this one doesn’t have headlight wipers, I hate them

@99amgc43 HI good morning, hope you're well...a few years ago I had the engine remounted with new mounts...after which, it idles wonderfully...this is in the repair record (included in the pix, etc.) if you go back several years, maybe 8 -9 years or so as I recall...I remember this distinctly, as it made a world of difference, etc...upon starting, there is no vibration whatsoever...I don't have too many "cold mornings", as I live in a very temperate climate on the Monterey Bay...if I had any of the symptoms in your description, I would promptly drive over to my german mechanic and it would be addressed....I was obsessive about always listening to the motor, and I grew to know every little sound and vibration....the car became an extension of me...I always drove conservatively; no "boy racer" stuff ever.....not in my DNA...boring, yes!, but the condition of the car reflects that, etc...I hope this helps, cheers
Hows the motor and trans mounts? On a cold start does the car vibrate a good amount? How about during cold mornings, any issues with the transmission not wanting to shift until it warms up?
@99amgc43 HI good morning, hope you're well...I have been a good steward of this car...it has brought me joy...and sharp eyes who notice what it really is, will walk up to me at gas stations and parking lots and knowingly nod, or give a "thumbs up" ....these are the intangible things about owning certain automobiles that make it so much fun...so few of these C43's around...
@xrayok HI, good morning I hope you're well...I have now posted pix of the new headliner, and of the driver's seat, showing it's great condition...cheers, PN
I had a 99 version back in the day, hence the SN... Hopefully can relive my 20's again

@TroyToler HI I hope you're well...I am not sure I can do this with the remaining time for this auction...I can try to do one tonight (maybe I can have it up tomorrow, not sure), but I am commuting to work and my home is a ways away, as I write this I am now at work (incidentally , I am not commuting in the C43, that car is all tucked in , in my garage.)..you may wish to call my mechanic today and inquire about the car if you are still interested....it is a sweet engine....Circle Star Motors in Santa Cruz...
Is there anyway you could do a start up video? preferably up close to the engine? Thanks!

@xrayok HI...hope you're well...I can try to take a picture tonight of the front driver seat...s/b looking good...I had a cover over it during my use (I did NOT use the brand new unused sheepskins)...new headliner put in about 2 years ago, it looks new, will try to photo graph that as well tonight...cheers, PN HI ADDENDUM: if you open up the pictures on this page and look at pictures #55 and #56 out of 231 pictures, you can see the front seat..I will also try to get pix tonight....I hope this helps
How's the headliner? Any pictures you could add to show if it's good or sagging? Also, a better picture showing more of the driver's seat - seat bottom specifically? Nice to see the detailed service history and rust free undercarriage.
@Nocavitation HI I hope you're well...I have occasionally over the years had the A/C serviced...at the same time, I have hardly used the A/C over the years as, living on Central Coast, it is 65F degrees in the summer fog here most summers.......I had it (A/C) serviced this year earlier I believe...it's probably in the records I included here...also, I don't know about VIN tags on bumper I can check...the car has always always been garaged overnight, and in the day, kept in shade 95% of the time...have worked hard to keep out of the sun...there have been some smaller paint repairs for tree sap on hood, door dings...the car has never needed a repaint though, the paint looks really good, the UV rays were held at bay!......I replaced front bumper with factory new bumper in a recent year, because of the parking lot concrete bumpers that are in each space on the ground in front of a car over which the car had occasionally been driven, and there were scrape marks I didn't like.....I hope this helps, thanks, Peter

Hi, Does the AC work? Has the car been repainted? Also can you confirm all the vin tags remain on the fenders/bumpers?

HI folks....I hope I find a new home for this wonderful car, and where it will get the same love and attention it has enjoyed during my tenure with it...cheers
@Blackfin HI, I hope you're well...per my longtime mechanic: December 2011: "tranny service" new filter, fluid and gasket for transmission May 2016: new transmission plug replacement for transmission April 2021: "tranny service": transmission filter, fluid and gasket replacement June 2021: new conductor plate (& electronics kit) for transmission, also tranny service (fluid, filter, gasket replacement) ...I hope this helps, cheers PN
Someone's going to get a bargain on this one.
Beautiful car. Has any work been done on the transmission? Thanks
These cars are so underrated. Absolutely bulletproof M113 in the W202 is perfection.

Awesome, well cared for example of a relatively rare early corporate AMG. W202 series AMGs are certainly destined for further appreciation over time, as the necessary link between the tuner era AMGs, and the later integrated versions of each new MB model.
