This 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Sport shows three owners from new with registration reported in Georgia since it was sold new in Columbus, Georgia. Finished in Black (040) over Black Leather (261), power is provided by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Factory equipment includes a power soft top, a removable hardtop, sport body styling, Xenon headlamps, remote central locking, rain-sensing wipers, power-adjustable seats, automatic climate control and Bose audio. The original window sticker is included showing an MSRP of $87k. The seller reports not many service records remain with the car but recent service includes new Michelin tires, an alignment, oil service, new hood pad, a new engine mount, and wheel refinish. The odometer shows 41k original miles and the Carfax report shows linear mileage updates. This 1998 SL500 Sport is now offered for sale by the current owner with the original manufacturer’s literature, two keys, the original window sticker, a Carfax report and a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.
The optional SL1 Sport package includes sculpted front and rear bumpers and side skirts which come finished in Black (040) along with a paint-matched removable hardtop. The seller notes that the power-folding fabric soft top shows well but does need the soft top hydraulic rams rebuilt or replaced. The front bumper was previously replaced with a new-old stock unit and the Carfax report shows minor damage to the front in 2005. Photos of the exterior and glass are included in the gallery.
The 18” AMG Monoblock wheels have recently been refinished. They are fitted with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 tires which measure 245/40 front and 275/35 rear and show 2023 date codes. Anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes and ASR slip control are fitted as standard.
The cabin is upholstered in Black Leather (261) with a matching upper dashboard and matching carpets. Burl Walnut wood trim can be found lining the center console, gear selector, and door panels. Both seats offer 10-way power adjustability with three-position memory. Interior features include automatic climate control, cruise control, a pop-up roll bar, a power tilt/telescope steering column, an integrated car phone, a trunk-mounted CD changer and a 6-speaker Bose Acoustimass audio system. All weather floor mats are shown for each seat.
The leather steering wheel fronts a central 160-mph speedometer as well as a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, economy, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The digital odometer shows 41k miles from new with 3k miles added by the current owner since acquiring in 2016.
This R129 is powered by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 which is factory rated for 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 722.6 five-speed automatic transmission. The seller reports not many service records remain with the car but recent service includes new Michelin tires, an alignment, oil service, new hood pad, a new engine mount, and wheel refinish

Thank you to all who bid!
If this car’s overall condition is as good as it looks, this was very well bought.

@Quick01 Have always preferred the car as a coupe so I haven't done the rams for the soft top due to that and my budget has gone to the mechanical side of the vehicle more so. The top has been up on the car about 4 times in total in the life of the car twice during my ownership shows well and car has always been garage kept. Was purchased new by my grandfather for my grandmother in 98 so I've watched it growing up. Has been a joy to drive and is lovely at speed but is time to move on and be driven well by a new owner.
@R129hoarder Appreciated! Thank you for the vote of confidence.

@Quick01 I've been watching this thinking the same. Honestly I get excited to find original window stickers. @seller, we're rooting for you!
looks good, curious as to why no bids yet. I sold my 98 in June of this year and it was very similar with the original top still looking good, however I did replace the cylinders and all the other usual stuff as well. The cylinder job scares a lot of people, but it is a fairly easy job and the cylinders can be had as a kit from Top Hydraulics for a reasonable price. And I had a new top put on my 600 last year and it was around 1700 installed for a nice top, so every thing done is around 3k. I hope it finds a good home.
VERY nice example which deserves serious consideration, and the transparency regards the top hydraulics is appreciated. GLWTA.
