This rare Mercedes-Benz Tri-Y exhaust system was manufactured for the 1986-1991 W126 S-Class and the exhaust manifolds, downpipe, and Y-pipe were recently ceramic coated. The headers are designed to fit all M117 500 and 560 W126 sedans and coupes, and the original Mercedes-Benz stampings are present. The rest of the exhaust system from the headers back was taken off a Japanese market 1991 560SEL AMG and fit the four door cars. The headers consist of four separate pieces with part numbers specified below and the EGR valve and covers are also included. This rare Mercedes-Benz Tri-Y exhaust system is being auctioned out of Charlotte, NC and the seller is able to assist with worldwide shipping needs for the buyer.
These are not reproduction parts and proper fitment is ensured as an authentic Mercedes-Benz part. The headers reportedly can add 25-30 horsepower to a standard US spec 500 or 560 W126. The headers provide a freer flowing manifold compared to the restrictive North American logs. This system reduces backpressure and increases exhaust gas evacuation. The EGR valve is also included along with covers.
The exhaust manifolds, downpipe, and Y-pipe have been recently ceramic coated. They show in good condition with just a few dings. A Metal Cat catalytic converter has been installed and a O2 bung welded in.
On the exhaust system, there is a custom extension to “delete” the cat and it moves the entire X pipe up front with matching flanges. New hardware is included with the parts. This is a bolt in system on a W126 560SEL.
The Tri-Y headers are designed to fit LHD versions of the W126 with the 500 or 560 engines. The part numbers are present on each of the four individual pieces and listed below.
PN: 117 142 45 02
PN: 117 142 46 02
PN: 117 142 48 02
PN: 117 142 51 02
This rare W126 exhaust system was removed from a 1991 560SEL AMG from the Japanese market. This system is mostly complete with the rear most muffler missing from the set. This exhaust system with Tri-Ys is now being sold out of Charlotte, NC by the seller.
These Tri-Y exhausts remain in demand by enthusiasts “in the know”. There were always old BenzWorld.org forums posts of people selling these back in the day for what seem like peanuts nowadays. The North American cars were always restricted from the factory, mainly from the exhaust system that choked these engines out. With supply drying up and performance parts getting hard to find, these are like hens teeth on the used market and are absolutely worth picking up whenever they pop up if you have a North American M117 powered car. These add a ton of power. Pair this system with cams and you’ll be over 300 horsepower. This is an exciting auction and rare parts get us giddy with excitement.

@AMG5pt4 Yes, I can confirm these are for Left Hand Drive vehicles. LHD US/ROW. Thanks for the question.
Can the Seller confirm this exhaust system was removed from a Left Hand Drive car? Japan is a Right Hand Drive, Left Hand Traffic country. Tri-y exhaust headers were made by MB for both LHD and RHD cars. RHD tri-y's won't fit US/ROW cars and vice versa.
Hello everyone, Thank you for bidding and viewing this W126 AMG exhaust system. As mentioned this came from a 1991 560SEL AMG from Japan. It had the 300HP RUF M117.968 HV (Hohe Verdichtung) high compression engine Code 822. Happy bidding.
