ALeventhal bid $19,750

@ammaraj24 Good luck! Worst case, put a m117 crank in it to stroke it - that's how AMG did it anyway. You paid about half the value of a real one, so you have room.
@ProdigalPetrolHead Yes, I do hope the winner keeps us informed. I'm even torn on whether to roll the dice myself. Do I trust humanity or not? ;) @BenzClassic I bought a real 500sl 6.0 on BaT that was built my AMG on a new car at Affalterbach (not a later conversion) and had the paperwork to prove it. But, it has been "upgraded" to the second gen AMG bodykit and larger wheels. I was able to source the correct body kit and wheel and have it all painted and installed. Cost me about $25k all in. Not worth doing financially if it's not a real car, but it can be done. For sure.
@ProdigalPetrolHead Well, of course you're literally correct that not every euro r129 decodes like that. But, every euro 500sl from the right years, DOES. And, if you think about it, they MUST, because MB could NOT have known when they issued the VIN which cars would be later converted by AMG Japan.
@ProdigalPetrolHead The optimist in me says this is a good gamble and if it turns out to be real, it could be a bargain. The cynic in me says if it was real the seller would have taken the literal *15 minutes* to prove it, and the fact that he hasn't is a pretty good indication that it's fake.
@124guy *ALL* Non-US r129 decode that was as 500sl or 6.0. It means nothing.
@SLAMMER500 Were you able to confirm the stroke? If not, what remedy will you offer a buyer who gets it home and finds it is not a 6.0 (if that were to happen)?
@charltons I guess the 280KM/H top speed run was proof enough of it's 6.0 status. Perhaps this seller could do that if he can't measure the stroke. ;)
@charltons I didn't see that auction, and can't find it, but my absolutely real, German market 500sl 6.0, which was built by AMG at Affalterbach as a new car, with full documentation from AMG to prove it, sold for only $85k at Bonhams Amelia Island sale this past spring (just a few months ago). So, I don't think anything much more than the current bid would be a good deal for a car that may well by a 5.0 / fake. More importantly, why would any seller not prove the legitimacy of a car on offer? My car sold with both build sheets from AMG and stroke measurements. It's madness to do otherwise, unless the seller themselves have doubts...
@Youngclassicamg Having a PPI performed at one bidder's expense really isn't fair. If it turns out the car is not a 6.0, that bidder will be out their money. If it is a real 6.0 then all the other bidders will be willing to pay more at the expense of the bidder who performed the PPI. The only fair and equitable way for this situation to me resolved is for @SLAMMER500 to measure the stroke and post video or photos of the process. That's fair for everyone and it's such a simple procedure, there is really no good reason not to do it. And, I am a pre-merger AMG owner and would be a player on this car if it were proven to be a real 6.0.
@Seller Can you please post photos or a video measuring the stroke? That would be very easy to do, and would eliminate any questions or confusion once and for all. Obviously, this car is worth much more if you can demonstrate it actually is a 6.0. Thank you.
