This 1998 Mercedes-Benz CLK230 Kompressor Cabriolet 5-Speed shows an original 89 kilometers (55 miles) from new and presents as a collector-grade example. This specific car was ordered via the Schwäbisch Gmünd Mercedes-Benz retail branch and was delivered to the first owner in October of 1998. The owner initially parked the car in the garage of a family home where it sat forgotten until the home was to be sold. The owner, upon realizing the home would be sold, discovered the car had been sold without his consent to a dealer who then sold the CLK to Daimler AG. As the car was with Daimler, it received a complete service and new tires to ensure it was healthy. It was recovered by the original owner with the help of the original owner’s attorney with letters from that attorney included in the sale to corroborate the background. In 2018 the car made its way through a museum collection and to the renowned Mechatronik in Pleidelsheim, Germany where it was initially offered for sale. This CLK is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over a rare Green & Anthracite Cloth (036). Power comes from a 2.3L M111 supercharged 4-cylinder paired to a 5-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. This CLK is well-optioned with the Sport Package, heated front seats, Becker CD player, dual-zone climate control, a black power soft top, and a deployable roll bar that doubles as retractable rear head rests. In 2023 it received another comprehensive service including oil and filter, brake fluid and filter, a coolant flush, new spark plugs, a new air filter, and a new cabin filter. This rare CLK230 Kompressor is offered with collector-grade mileage by the selling dealer in Germany with supporting historic documents, the original datacard, factory literature, two keys, and a clean Germany title.
Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) this CLK boasts the original paintwork, original soft top, and original glass. Exterior features include Gray contrasting impact strips along the body lines, side marker lamps in the fenders, a front European tag frame, and a single-exit chrome exhaust tip. The optional Sport Package features stiffer suspension compared to non-Sport examples and the impact strips show “Sport” badging behind the front wheels. The seller has included detailed photos of the body in the gallery and notes pre-delivery factory coatings still present on the underside of the car.
Factory 16x7” aluminum forged lightweight wheels made by Fuchs for Mercedes-Benz 208-chassis vehicles are mounted and show well with minor blemishes present. Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tires are mounted and measure 205/55 at all four corners. The wheels wear OEM painted center caps and disc brakes provide stopping power behind each wheel.
The cabin is trimmed in a rare Green Cloth (036) that features period-correct patterns with teal highlights on the seats and door cards. The upper dashboard, center console, armrest, shift knob and steering wheel are wrapped in matching green vinyl and present without blemishes shown. The lower dashboard, seat bolsters, and carpets show in contrasting Anthracite and make for a period-correct 2-tone combination. Cabin features include a power-folding Black soft top, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, an original Becker CD player, and a locking glove compartment. Standard to the Sport Package, Sport trim adorns the doors and center console with a carbon fiber pattern. Detailed photos of the cabin are included in the gallery.
White instrument cluster dials are standard with the optional Sport Package and are framed by the green Sport steering wheel. The cluster displays backlit LCD readouts for mileage, ambient temperature, and time. The digital odometer displays 89 kilometers (55 miles) at the time of cataloging. All the LCD’s are in functioning condition.
Power comes from a 2.3L M111 supercharged 4-cylinder paired to a 5-speed manual driving the rear wheels. Factory outputs for this example show 193 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. Detailed photos of the engine bay and underside of the car can be seen in the gallery. sweet! another random comment--is it a good idea to say reserve is off in an auction? Or should you let it ride and hope for more bids? just curious.... regardless, this was a neat auction-I rarely watch to the end but this one was indeed special! Cheers!
Guys. Last chance. No reserve from now! There will never be another CLK with 55 miles and manual gearbox.

@Schultz65 The 5 speed is begging for exercise!!! By the time you've made it to Monaco, you'd have your 'break-in' miles out of the way to truly have some fun on your way to Nice!

@GoBoGo I'll likely stare at it for 30 days and then become impatient and start logging miles. I figure even if I put several thousand miles on it it'll still be extremely special at any given moment.

For the true bidders here, buying it to preserve or buying it to drive? Just curious... (Me? I'd be driving it across Europe, shipping it, then driving it all over the southeast, museums be damned!)

@Tad5444 Hello In 2023 an extended service was performed by a Mercedes Benz garage with all fluids and filters. We will do another pre delivery check and engine oil change after the auction. We are working with CFR CLASSIC for shipping services door to door. If you need more info, please let us know!

@TinoAndAlex thanks so much! Is there a service you might recommend?
$8,000 bid placed by @PSawyers
@Tad5444 Hello Yes. It is in Germany. We can arrange door to door shipping. The german part incl. closed transport to Bremerhaven port and export declaration is our part. We pay it. The container shipping and US import fees pays the buyer.
So this is still located in Germany? Can shipping be arranged? Thanks!
