This was really exciting to watch…and quite surprising to me that it sold as well as it did, actually. As an adolescent, I remember reading all about the Ferrari Testarossa and Lamborghini Countach in every available car magazine and seeing posters of them on every neighborhood kid’s wall. Including my own! They captivated my younger imagination like nothing else in large part because of their aggressive bodywork, scissor doors, spoilers and overall bold Italian styling. They just seemed to scream “200mph” simply by looking at them. I seem to also remember there being an article about the fastest cars in the world about that time that touted the Hammer as the king of them all. But the "just an e-class" styling, even in its stylized AMG form, never really bowled me over or made me daydream about the hammer like the Ferrari and the Lamborghini did. It’s interesting to see that only now, decades later, I see what the hype was really about back then from longtime hammer admirers. Perhaps it’s a product of aging or maturity but this car looks so much more poised and powerful next to the Countach and the Testarossa in my eyes. The styling has truly withstood the test of time and doesn’t look half as dated to me as the others. Maybe I’m just getting old, or I’m “late to the party” but it’s incredibly interesting to me how much that perspective has changed over 30 years. Congrats on the sale of the beautiful 80s supercar.
