Hello @Britalia, as previously mentioned in the comments and in the video description, the SRS light turns off after 2 minutes. It is of no consequence, likely a sensor that does not affect SRS functionality. Please let me know if you have any other questions, thanks.

Happy Sunday all, thanks for your interest so far in my S600.

A quick update as we approach the close of auction. While waiting for the center console to receive its new veneer a few items came up which I'm addressing. After being in storage for a few weeks I noticed a wobble at around 50 mph. Wheel balancing didn't solve it so we've ordered a set of control arms (Lemforder I believe) which should take care of it; they arrive the middle of next week. When the shifter was reassembled and the console reinstalled, it appears that the metal piece that links B and 2 (at the lower most point of the gate, which activates the kickdown solenoid) went missing, leading the car to start in 1st gear, hold it for longer than usual, and then shift slightly more aggressively than usual all the way up to top gear. It still drives fine (and in fact it's refreshing to feel even more torque off the line) but we've ordered a replacement shifter that will address the issue. Finally, when the battery wouldn't hold a charge I had it replaced under warranty and had a new OEM (rebuilt) Bosch alternator installed. Everything electrical works flawlessly now (and the car passed smog with flying colors) except that the instrument panel cluster backlight does not illuminate when the lights are on. We are working on a solution and will either fix it before the sale or apply a credit toward the purchase price depending on repair timeline and what our mechanic says.

I'll be traveling Monday late afternoon and the car will be in the capable hands of my mechanic, who can handover the vehicle to the new owner or shipping company. I'm happy to answer any questions in the meantime and provide a test drive or FaceTime tour before I leave town tomorrow.

This car has been very good to me and drives beautifully. With proper maintenance it should provide many more miles of use for the next lucky owner.

Thanks and happy bidding.

@babtainyHi , a little follow-up as you mentioned you're new to 140s. One of the biggest debates about 140s is pre or post-facelift. There are pluses and minuses to both. I love pre-facelift 140 sedans and coupes because in my view they feel a bit more special—they have higher quality interior materials, contrasting exterior lower cladding that sets them apart, and novel features like the power operated rearview mirror and so-called parking antennas that were abandoned by '96 and onward. Pre-facelift cars do have 4-speed transmissions (versus the 5-speed in '96 and later models) and the ignition systems on facelift V12s are easier to sort. I've had a great time with my '94 and have done my best to keep it running perfectly. It's actually needed less than the '93 400 SEL I owned for a while, which I suspect had sat quite a bit before I bought it and needed quite a bit of sorting, which became rather expensive. My advice is to find A) a spec/generation you're really excited about, and B) a solid car that's been sorted, which will save you loads of heartache down the road.

Quick note that I just received a smog certificate for the Maybach and it’s ready to go. I was reminded of what a dream it is to drive; I think my blood pressure dropped 10 points just by settling into the seat. This Maybach is going to make its next caretaker very happy.

Thank you @westnewportBB, and you're correct—the older photo of the car was filtered and a bit oversaturated. The color is more accurately represented in the other gallery photos. Regarding the work done, I had the rear painted and blended to the sides, as well as the hood and the bumpers so I could A) remove some nicks and B) remove the front license plate holes. My body shop guy is very talented and did a great job.

B_R_W said:

@babtainyThank you . These pre-facelift 140s did have the wiring harness issue. While I haven't been able to obtain records dating back to new to verify whether it's been addressed or not, the harness appears to be in good shape (see photos 70-72). Incidentally I did have the mass airflow sensor harness replaced (receipts on pics 99 & 100).

Hi @jimseeger, thanks for the note and good question. As mentioned in the video description, the SRS light turns off about 2 minutes after the car has been started. Based on my research it's considered a non-critical fault, likely from the seatbelt sensor going out. As the seatbelt still functions as it should and the light goes out, I have left it as is. Please feel free to ask any other questions and, if you're local and interested in seeing the car in person, let me know.

@BoatymcboatfaceThanks for the comment , always nice to hear from you. Wonderful to hear Daimler is interested in keeping these cars alive.

Regarding brakes and suspension we have records reflecting brake pressure reservoir replacements in May '18 ($3,328), an Airmatic spring replacement in May '19 ($3,798 in parts), and a steering damper in March of this year ($6,840 in parts); the brake fluid was also flushed a month ago. This of course is in addition to the other service records shown in the gallery.

I've inquired into getting the VMI but Mercedes-Benz of San Diego requires in-person presentation of proof of ownership and we're based in Los Angeles.

Hi there, @MercedesDad. I am representing the current owner who has enjoyed this Maybach since 2018 and covered approximately 7k miles. While I can't speak directly for him, I know he's enjoyed the driving experience and still marvels at the 62's unique features, particularly the electrochromic roof. He has also taken excellent care of his beloved Maybach, with over $40k in service receipts (which will be uploaded shortly). I've driven the car a bit over the past few weeks and feel it's just as impressive as it was when introduced. As a current C140 owner and previous W140 owner I'm a big fan of cars that feel special. As those who know know, Maybachs leveraged the W140 platform (hence the V240 chassis designation), as it was more robust than subsequent generations and is therefore better suited for extended wheelbase duty. I reviewed the car as an automotive journalist back when it was new (and MSRPs easily reached $500k), and find its level of engineering and execution of quality impressive to this day. Hope that helps.

Very special cars indeed! The partition is great but not for everyone, especially drivers seeking decent legroom. Just ask Tyler Hoovie (of Hoovie’s Garage fame) who mentioned it in one of his videos. Question is @ArmyGuy63, what do you follow your Maybachs with?

Welcome to our 2004 Maybach 62 auction. We’ve prepped this very special model for sale by giving it a thorough detail and going through it mechanically; anything that has needed attention has been addressed. Its twin-turbo 5.5-liter V12 and 5-speed 722.6 transmission function flawlessly, and all comfort features from the electrotransparent roof to the rear entertainment system and the power operated curtains operate as they should. Included are many extras including both keys, 2 Maybach champagne flutes, 2 Maybach tumblers, the original Maybach umbrella, both rear pillows, and both Motorola flip phones. We wouldn’t hesitate to drive this elegant elongated sedan cross country—in fact, we’d love to.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

W140s use timing chains, @dengreene, and my understanding is that they'll need replacement anywhere between 100k and 200k depending on oil change frequency. The timing chain has not been replaced under my ownership, and I don't have a record of it previously; I've had several mechanics go over the vehicle and they have not advised replacement (yet), though the new owner might consider it for peace of mind.

@waterhazardHi , that work receipt confused me. I haven't seen any evidence of water damage anywhere on the vehicle and there are zero musty smells in the cabin, and the Carfax is clean. The mechanic mentioned it was under the rear seat when he was replacing a sensor under the rear seat , so maybe it was an isolated case of water ingress. Regardless, the vehicle is now clean and everything works (HVAC, soft close, rear antenna masts, etc) apart from the items mentioned in the description.

B_R_W said:

Hello and welcome to my first MB Market auction! I purchased this 400 SEL locally from its original owner, who was selling because she had purchased a V12 S-Class. A woman after my own heart She babied her baby and insisted on only hand washing it, never running it through a car wash—a rule I’ve upheld during my ownership. I’ve addressed every mechanical need I could find (see $8,400 in receipts), and apart from the date codes on the tires I’d be fully confident driving this cross-country. I’m sad to see this amazing sedan go, but with another 140 and three other cars in the garage it’s time to find the next caretaker.

Please don’t hesitate to throw any questions my way, and I’m happy to arrange a test drive and/or PPI for serious parties. Thanks and happy bidding.

Cheers,
Basem Wasef
