@gsxrThank you. I have always wanted a 500E. And I have have read hundreds of your comments. This e300 project was the flip of a 500e: a Sheep in wolf's clothing. And it was cheaper. I am old and don't drive fast, so it made sense in theory. Anyway, I appreciate your 500E knowledge.
@RSDeckerI don't see a receipt for timing chain, as it may have done before the previous owner. I only have my receipts and previous ownership receipts. In 2010, the previous owner invited $1,800 in repair. They noted the original wiring harness and "remove the lower engine panel to reduce the heath for the wiring harness).. Then in 2013, the 120,000 mile N3 Major service was performed at a cost of $1,200
Please note that the transmission was rebuilt in 2014at 127,000 miles by Stephen Service Center in Sacramento for a cost of $2890. Shifting is smooth.
@RSDecker Also the water pump was replaced again in 2021, as well as belts tensioner lever for a total of $760 by prior owner.
@RSDecker According to receipt from prior owner, the water pump and water pump housing were replaced in 2019. Checking on timing chain.
@RSDecker I don't have original rims. They had chrome on them . And the chrome was a mess. So to de chrome them and then refinish them did not make financial sense. The wiring harness is an interesting question. Mercedes bio degradable wiring harness was a big issue for their gas cars. But for diesel it is minor. I am not sure if has or has not. The car runs well and I have not had electrical issues. I have had engine tune up, but I don't think that they replaced glow plugs. I have tons of receipts from prior owner that I haven't studied.
@gershomThere is a low reserve sale price. The windows work but the sunroof has closed to prevent leaks. There were leaks that I addressed: the sunroof and the exhaust fumes in the car. Currently there are no fluids on garage floor or fluids that need refilling early. So there are no leaks that I know about. that said, the car is 175,000 miles old and is sold as is . I encourage inspections before you bid.
Thank you. I have clearly watched too many episodes of YouTube Hoovies Garage. That said, it has been fun purchasing this car, driving it, working with the mechanic at Pacific Motors in Santa Monica to figure out repairs and seeing them resolved. There is more work to do. But I moved it along.
Sorry for the confusion. I had 4 black color code 040 Mercedes from the 90s. The photos 79 and 80 should be disregarded. They are from one of my S Class w140. I have requested that they be removed. No one had bid yet so there are no bides to be cancelled. Sorry for the confusion. I am not a flipper. It was more of a David Lee type hobby. A flipper would have made difference choices and perhaps made money. I did have fun though repairing and restoring the four cars.
The wheels were purchased on EBay for $1200. They were installed by Byron Woodley tire in Santa Monica. I there is a receipt in photos. They are imitation AMG. They are not genuine . But they work well, especially with new Michelin tires. It was a bit work to get them to fit right but it worked out. No spacers were used.
That is a great question. Probably the rear bumper first . Then a bike rack . I had a tow hitch for nice bike rack installed . I am still undecided about the interior. This is not a prom car. It is go to the beach with the kids and dog. So it could use a bit more cleaning but could be used as is. That said, for a daily driver to work, perhaps you would do some more interior work. Certainly a new steering wheel.
I am the seller . The rear bumper has the more serious issue. The front bumper has a minor issue. I tried to address the major mechanic issues as well as the wheels and tires situation. I invested a multiple of my initial purchase price . The car now is fun to drive and reliable. There is still more work to be done including the bumper issues . The interior is good for a beach car but for Pebble beach crowd it still need interior work .
Sorry that it didn’t work out quite yet
