This set of four 300SL fender moulds were custom built by the owner of a Mercedes-Benz parts dealer as a passion project. The current seller obtained them when they bought parts from the dealer as the owner was retiring and selling some of his amassed parts. These fender moulds are for casting fiberglass body panels for replica 300SL builds and were allegedly moulded off real W198 panels. These four panels are located out of Victoria, British Columbia in Canada and are offered by the seller with world wide shipping on the buyer’s behalf.
These fender moulds were allegedly sculpted from original 300SL body panels. The previous owner who created these from scratch had a passion for the W198 and made these panels to create fiberglass fenders that would work on replica cars. The previous owner also owned and operated a Mercedes-Benz dealership and this was his side project.
The current owner bought a bunch of Mercedes-Benz parts from the dealer as the owner was retiring and was liquidating his stock. These four fender moundings were included with the parts bundle. Included in this auction are four fender moundlings meant to lay fiberglass in to create accurate 300SL fenders. Included are:
The selling restoration shop and dealer notes no visible damage to the shells and they appear in good condition. Photos and walkaround videos are included in the gallery below. The video shows a 360 degree walkaround of the exterior and the slick orange painted interiors of the shells on all four panels.

We’ve actually had first hand experience with several fiberglass 300SL replica cars and it’s cool to see just how the sausage is made when it comes to the accurate body shells since a lot of these cars sit on steel tubular frames. This is an esoteric bit of replica car construction material, but let us tell you these replica cars sell for a lot of money with a recent sale transacting privately in the mid $100k range. With real W198s out of touch for most collectors and enthusiasts, the next best thing is a replica that costs 10% of a real one. That’s what these mouldings will help make. We see these fender casts as a unique way to start a new business building these things or for a custom shop to buy these and add 300SL replicas to their inventory for customers to buy. Either way, if you’re creative enough, these offer a huge opportunity to build some cool cars that will look like seven figure collectibles at a fraction of the price.
