The body wears Blue (903) paint and the seller believes the car has received a partial repaint along both sides of the car previously. The hood, roof, and trunk lid appear to be original paint and some light fading is beginning to show on the hood. The rubber gaskets around all windows have become brittle and the previous owner has purchased all new seals from Mercedes-Benz which will be provided with the sale. A new antenna was recently and the car features a power sunroof, fog lights, and chrome mirror caps. The seller notes some surface rust along the lower front valance as well as some rock chips on the hood. All bright work and plastic trim around the car remains in good condition. Coupes all have a raked windshield compared to their sedan/wagon counterparts giving them a sleeker look.
14” steel wheels wear polished hubcaps with Blue color-matched centers, and are mounted with General Ameri-G4S tires measuring 195/70 on all four corners. Rear tires are dated 2004 with 2006 up front. All four wheels are stopped with ATE disk brakes. The coupes are fitted with static suspension and the chassis features a shortened wheelbase over the sedans.
Beige MB-Tex (155) covers manually-adjusted seats with a black upper dash and steering wheel with streaks of Burl Walnut veneer throughout the cabin. Upgraded rear deck speakers were installed under previous ownership, and a new Alpine UTE-73UB head unit with bluetooth is now installed in the center-stack. The ACC II climate control system blows cold and currently functions as new with no leaks. The system was serviced in 2024 and tested with a professional shop. The dash is noted to have a crack and an additional dash cover is provided with the sale. The wood veneer shows cracking and the headliner is fully intact along with both sun visors. All power windows are in working condition.
The 6-digit odometer shows 67,306 miles, 1,000 of which have been added by the seller. The gauge cluster consists of a 115-mph speedometer, an analog clock, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. These early Series 1 cars were fitted with higher reading odometers before the EPA Clean Air Act forced OEs to make speedometers read 85-mph. This C123 should have a V-MAX of around 100 MPH.
The 3.0L OM617 diesel inline-five put out 78 horsepower and 115 lb-feet of torque when new and is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission which reportedly runs strong and shifts smoothly through all gears. The hood insulation pad is in good condition and is believed to be replaced under previous ownership. The seller states that the engine does not exhibit blow-by or excessive smoke when running.
Option codes on the underhood build plate indicate the following equipment:
This 300CD is now offered with manufacturer’s literature including the original pre purchase inspection, new rubber window seals, two keys, a spare dash cap, and a clean Maryland title in the seller’s name.
Out of the 2.4 million W123 E-Class Mercedes-Benz built, a touch under 100,000 were coupes. Mercedes-Benz was the first company to make a luxury diesel executive two door coupe for the US market. Getting mid to high 20s in the MPG competition, these C123 coupes offered amazing build quality, good fuel economy, and incredible ride quality. The C123 had a lot of bespoke components to them making them exorbitantly expensive to build. Each variant of the 123 all had major modifications from Mercedes-Benz that differed from each other – something you don’t see in today’s manufacturing zeitgeist. The ‘70s was also the peak moment in history for cool, pastel colors. This blue paint over the beige is attractive – nautical in nature – and the naturally aspirated OM617 is an absolute charmer of a motor with enough power to keep up in today’s traffic. These are tough, simple cars for the most part with the main worry being the complicated climate control system on the Series I cars, but this one has been serviced and blows cold making this a great usable classic one can daily drive in and be a tasteful standout in the boring sea of white CUV ridden traffic of today.

@MercedesDad ah good point! had absolutely nothing to do with the vehicle, the buyer just never sent a wire to confirm the sell. the site felt maybe he trolled the auction. idk but the car is in great condition, a showstopper in the streets of NYC for sure. i'm only selling bc i'm leaving the country !
Hello @biglive, would you mind elaborating why the car didn't sell in June? I feel that knowing why the buyer backed out would put potential buyers at ease; especially if it wasn't the car's fault.
@EmmaLab @Schumacher7x the car did not sell in June. no, i have not addressed the CLS since purchasing in 2021.
Seller, has the central locking issue reported on the other site been addressed?
@Schumacher7x Yep, looks like the same car, sold in June of this year.
