Many thanks to the bidders for doing their best to own this SL. The high bid essentially represents the money spent reconditioning on the car. So, I'll have to keep marketing.

Feel free to contact me with any questions today. Bidders should refresh their browser regularly to insure they see the latest bids as the auction draws to its conclusion. Bidders that are new to the live online auction scene should know any bid placed within the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the timer to 2 minutes. This triple black 500SL will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. The car is not emissions compliant in California, so it needs to go out of state unless you have a CA dealer's license. I'm happy to store the car in my Burlingame, CA gallery while trucking arrangements are made. Good luck to all!
Last day for this excellent 500SL. Keep in mind that I spent $20k+ addressing all the needs that are typically ignored on these cars. I chased all the usual loose ends: AC, cruise control, new steering box, timing chain, ignition components, engine/transmission/subframe mounts, fuel injectors, control arm bushings, etc. The transmission came out and was resealed and the rear main seal and transmission front pump seals were replaced. The instrument cluster was serviced by Palo Alto Speedometer. The car has a new soft top, new tires and restored alloys. And much more. It's ready for the tour and event season that's upon us.

The listing has been updated to list the car with a clean Michigan title. Please note the car is not California smog compliant.
To all: In fact, this 500SL is on a Michigan title and is NOT California smog legal. I missed this notation at the bottom of the vehicle description when reviewing the original draft. This is why the car retains most of its European spec horsepower.
Porschetick I agree. I've always enjoyed a great euro 500SL over a great 560SL. It was THE car to have in the '80s and more fully represents the spirit of the 107s. They're very quiet and silky smooth to drive with surprising power and torque. But it's essential that they have their original clean Euro look with flush headlamps, small bumpers and the unique tail spoiler. This car is a timeless classic SL.
For anyone who hasn't experienced the unrestricted Euro 5.0L, it's significantly better than any U.S. 560. Emissions restrictions really choked down the cars stateside. Don't even get me started on the lights and bumpers. Excellent example here GLWA!

@drosemont1 Do you mean the CarFax report? This car is not in their system.
Hi, was the Car Vertical report posted yet
$2,501 bid placed by @BD450SL
@mbheritage You’re welcome. I believe the 500SLC & 450SLC were rated at 240 HP, the early 500SLs were 228 HP/231 PS… all of them powered by M117 V8 engines but different variants.
@TheMBManiac Thanks for the note. I missed that in The MB Market's comments. I've always quoted Nitske's 240 HP (DIN) rating for a pure spec 500SL. I see 231 HP in the owner's handbook. It feels quite lively. This is a wonderful car that we spent enormous time and money on.
@mbheritage I think there’s a minor error in the description; this vintage of 500SL would have been rated at 228 HP… 242 HP was the late 85-89 500SL, it came with the air intake that was found in the 560SL….It looks visually similar to that engine with black valve covers… GLWA Roy
