This 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL shows a November, 1987 build date with first registration noted in Alberta, Canada until 2022 when it moved to Ontario, Canada where it was acquired by the second and current owner. The selling party acquired the car in 2022 and notes two owners since new. Finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) over Medium Red Leather (271), power is provided by a 5.5-liter M117 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes 15” Gullideckel wheels, a paint-matched removable hardtop, automatic climate control, power windows and cruise control. The selling party notes that some records are included in the sale showing recent services under their care with a recent cooling system service including water pump. This 560SL now shows 47k kilometers (29k miles) and is offered for sale with the original first aid kit, spare tire, tool kit, recent service records, and a clean Ontario title.
The exterior is finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) with chrome trim along the beltline, windows, and impact bumpers. Included is a paint-matched removable hardtop with a heated rear window. The black factory soft top is in good condition and both door mirrors include heated glass with the passenger side being power adjustable. The seller notes a minor on his Canadian Carfax in 2004 on the front left corner. Detailed photos of the SL are included in the gallery with the seller pointing out minor rock chips and superficial scratches in the paint.
The car wears 15” Gullideckel alloy wheels wrapped in a set of Pirelli P4 all-season tires measuring 205/65 at all four corners. Braking is handled by disc brakes behind each wheel and a full-size spare is included in the trunk. Original painted center caps are installed on each wheel and all the lug bolts show no corrosion. The painted Gullideckel wheels appear in excellent condition.
The cabin is finished in Medium Red Leather (271) lining the center armrest and door panels while Burl Walnut wood trim adorns the center console and dashboard. The leather shows well with no major defects noted other than some light wear on the driver side bolster. Features include automatic climate control, power windows, cruise control and an outside temperature indicator mounted in the dash. The factory air conditioning operates as intended with infrared temperature readings in the gallery out of all vents and all comfort features are reported to function. Detailed photos of the cabin and trunk are included in the gallery. A factory tool kit is included. The clock is reported to not be functional. A period-correct Vector radar detector is installed in the cabin. An A/C recharge was performed a few months ago with R12 refrigerant. The ashtray was also adjusted for better ease of opening.
Instrumentation includes a 260-kph speedometer which also houses the analogue odometer reading 47k kilometers (29k miles). Other gauges include a tachometer, fuel level indicator, fuel economy indicator, oil pressure, coolant temperature and an analogue clock. Below sit a row of warning lights alongside the controls for the resettable trip odometer. The seller notes the clock to be inoperable. A new horn ring was installed in 2022.
This 560SL is powered by a 5.5-liter M117 V8 which produced 227 horsepower and 279 lb-ft of torque when new. The selling party notes that some records are included in the sale showing various services over the past two years of ownership including engine oil/filter service, new battery, alternator, water pump, and lower radiator hose.
The American Carfax report lists no accidents or damage reports, but the Canadian report lists a front left minor in 2004. Linear mileage updates are flagged on the report during each year of new registration and the recent services are flagged on the Carfax to support the invoices. This 560SL now shows 47k kilometers (29k miles) and is offered for sale with the original first aid kit, original spare, recent service invoices, and a clean Ontario title.
Smoke Silver over Medium Red seems to have been a trend of 1988 Mercedes-Benz. It’s an attractive color combo for sure and seemed popular that year, especially with W201s and W124s. Red was the in vogue color of the ‘80s as far as paint color goes (much like light blues and chalks are of cars today), so it’s fun to see it on the interiors. Low mileage R107s are simply a treat to drive. This particular SL is one of the lower mileage cars we’ve seen in a while. I mean look at that engine bay. It just screams new car! The seller also provided lovely undercarriage pictures to stare at proving this one wasn’t driven in the harsh Canadian winters. With autumn upon us, it’s peak convertible weather. Whoever buys this 560SL must promise us this will be taken on a road trip through some changing foliage backroads. It’ll be the trip that makes you fall in love with the cruising nature of the R107 platform.

Handsome car! Anything else been updated on the vehicle besides what is in the invoices? Curious if the prior owner shared anything else in terms of repairs/updates?
