This 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500 was purchased new and registered in Connecticut with subsequent registrations noted in North Carolina, Indiana, and most recently California. It was acquired by the current owner in 2024. The car is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over Black Leather (261) and is powered by a 5.0-liter M119 DOHC V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Features include the desirable SL2 Package with heated seats and Xenon headlights, a retractable black soft top, a wind deflector, glass panoramic hardtop, and automatic climate control. The included Carfax report shows 15 service history records since new and a post-purchase inspection from January of 2025 will be included in the sale. The color matched factory panoramic roof is in excellent condition. The seller notes the shades for the hardtop are difficult to actuate and will likely need repair before use. The front bumper has been repainted due to rock chips and the entire front end freshly covered with paint protection film.
While the original 17” Albali wheels are included in the sale, the SL wears staggered aftermarket 18” mesh wheels. The wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires measuring 235/40 and 255/40 respectively. ABS is standard along with disc brakes behind each wheel.
The cabin features seats trimmed in Black Leather (261) with a matching dashboard, carpets, and carbon fiber accents on the center console and door panels. Amenities include power-adjustable heated front seats with position memory, automatic climate control, a wind deflector, an aftermarket head unit, and an auto-dimming mirror. Aftermarket velour floor mats with an embroidered Mercedes-Benz star are featured for each seat and the original Becker head unit is included in the sale.
A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer, and clock along with gauges for fuel level, instant economy, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The digital odometer indicates just under 27k miles.
The 5.0-liter M119 V8 was factory-rated at 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The included Carfax report shows 15 service history records since new and a post-purchase inspection from January of 2025 will be included in the sale. The hood pad was replaced under prior ownership.

Great purchase for your friend non the less even without knowing all of the details of the sale.I believe price was fair considering current market. @ferrari1971 I pulled the shade out once and it was difficult to retract, so once I got it back in I did not try retracting again since I had very little need for shade. I should also mention that I had UV protection tint added to the pano roof when I upgraded the window tint. To my knowledge, the pano roof is original, it was not an addition after my purchase.@Liviu Two were replaced prior to my purchase (see service records). I have not had any issues during my ownership.@mrmadell , so do the shades on the pano roof work at all or are they broken. Was this the pano you bought or was this original to the car? @mdigital21 I’m glad you asked! They are real carbon fiber inserts, not wraps. In my opinion, the carbon fiber looks better and more modern with the silver over black interior. Just like the rest of the vehicle, the original wood is in very good condition and included in the sale (see picture for wood grain inserts).What is the story with the carbon - is it a wrap? @quantumorbit The original wheels are in storage, but I will see if have pictures to upload. As far as I know there shouldn’t be any issues with reinstalling the original radio. I did not install it myself, as reflected in the service records I had one of our highly rated local radio dealers professionally install the deck.Can you post photos of the original wheels? Did you use an adapter for the aftermarket radio, no cut wires so the original radio can be easily swapped back? Thanks@billapex Thank you for the comment.
