This 1993 Mercedes-Benz 400E was delivered new in Illinois where it remained until relocating to Florida in February 2024 by the current seller. Finished in Black (040) over Black Leather (261), power is provided by a 4.2-liter M119 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Factory equipment includes a power sliding sunroof, Euro headlights, central locking, heated front seats, automatic climate control and an Alpine radio. The car has been fitted with an AMG-style body kit, exhaust, and 18" AMG monoblock wheels. Recent service history includes new H&R springs, Bilstein shocks, a brake fluid flush, new brake pads, and an oil change. Now showing 148k miles, this 1993 400E is now offered for sale by the current owner with a Carfax report and a clean Florida title.
The body is finished in Black (040) with matching lower body cladding. An AMG-style body kit has been installed featuring both front and rear bumpers, fog lights, side skirts, and trunk spoiler. Extended fender flares are installed on all four corners. Other exterior features include a power tilt/slide sunroof, Euro headlights, power adjustable door mirrors, heated rear glass and central locking. The front grille and hood emblem have been painted black to match the paint. Various rock chips are visible on the bumpers.
Staggered 18" AMG Monoblock wheels are fitted with a set of Hankook Ventus V12 evo 2 tires measuring 225/40 up front and 245/35 in the rear with 2023 date codes. The seller notes that all four brake pads were replaced within the past two months along with a brake fluid flush and the installation of new H&R springs and Bilstein shocks.
The cabin is upholstered in Black Leather (261) with Burl Walnut wood trim which lines the center console, dash and door panels. Cracking is visible on the center console wood trim. Both front seats are heated and offer 10-way power adjustability with two-position memory for the driver. Additional features include a power-adjustable steering column, automatic climate control, cruise control and an Alpine Radio. The seller notes normal wear shown on the driver's seat and a burl wood shift knob has been installed.
The four-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer along with a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. A digital outside temperature sensor is mounted at the bottom of the cluster and the "bulb out" indicator illuminates when the lights are on. The six-digit odometer shows just over 148k miles.
This W124 is powered by a 4.2-liter M119 V8 which is factory rated for 275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through four-speed automatic transmission. Recent maintenance included an engine oil change, new brake pads on all four corners, a brake fluid flush, and the installation of new H&R springs and Bilstein shocks. An aftermarket AMG-style exhaust has been fitted showing AMG stamped tips in the rear.
The Carfax report shows an accident in August 2006 which resulted in the insurance company writing off the car as a total loss. The car holds a clean Florida title in the seller's name.
Videos of the car below show a cold start, engine idle, walk around, interior features, and brief driving footage.

Hi
Really unfortunate the reserve wasn't met. Also very strange the seller wasn't answering questions or providing any details, but it was good fun anyway!
Really odd the seller did not respond to any questions. Might have bid higher otherwise. 0_o

Nothing scary EXCEPT that title 'thing'. This would be a great daily driver IF the questions were answered. My old '91 300D had a mystery bulb that went out (and would cause the bulb light to come on). I think it ended up being one of the side markers in the rear. Either way, an annoyance vs. a problem. My grandson was here last weekend and the 300D amazingly is still running (but still looks rough; paint flaking, ripped leather, the Lorinser RS90's are nearly black). That's what 275K miles can do to you I guess! Wish he had some cheddar to bid on this! GLWTA

Anyone know approximately how much it would cost (usd or cad) to bring this to Alberta Canada?
@E24_merc - This car does NOT have SLS (self-leveling suspension). Look for option code 480 in the EPC datacard. SLS was an extremely rare option in North America for all years 400E/E420. It was special-order only. I've seen a total of 2, maybe 3, 124.034's in USA confirmed to have SLS out of something like 10k+ imported here. In general you'll only find SLS on North-American spec 124 chassis on wagons (S124), and E500E (124.036) both of which had SLS as standard equipment.
@GK500 Yes im wondering the same thing, and would like some more information on the damage it had. I’m also wondering if this car was optioned with the self leveling suspension?
This would look killer with period correct oem amg rims. Looks good now but would really make the look

This car is local to me. For anyone who is seriously looking at bidding on it, I am happy to go put eyes on it later this week and give you my thoughts. Please arrange everything with the seller. I have no affiliation. Find me in the forums to get in touch with me. Happy Holidays to all.
@nthnkng33 - Looking you at the 500E board entry you can see the price wanted was USD $16,500. My belief ist this price was about 2x the worth of the car. And still now.
@Dr_Sternschnuppe what was his asking price on the Facebook post? I do not have an account at the link so I can’t load pictures. Thank you.

How does this car have a clean title if the car was deemed a total loss on the Carfax report?
Those Hankooks gotta go immediately.
Would you have the wheel specs?
There is info on this car posted for some time at the 500E board... https://www.500eboard.co/forums/threads/1993-400e-w-amg-body-kit-black-black-147kmi-17k-chicago-suburbs.19475/
