This 1994 Mercedes-Benz S500 6.0 AMG is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) over a Black Leather (261) interior and shows an original 74,429 KMs (47k miles) on the odometer. It was delivered new in Japan in June of 1994. This W140, while starting life as a 500SE, saw significant modification by AMG-Japan including a 6.0-litre M119 engine with engine stamps shown, an AMG body kit, BBS AMG Aero II wheels, and AMG badging both inside and outside. This low-mile example was acquired by the selling party in November of 2013. Just under 13k kilometers have been added by the seller during their 11 year tenure with the vehicle. Recent services include coolant flush, spark plugs, wiring harnesses, air/fuel/cabin filters, and much more. This former flagship sedan is offered with factory literature, radio remote for rear seat passengers, recent light mechanical refresh by a John Haynes Mercedes-Benz specialty shop, a JDM Super Cat radar detector, AMG stamps and plates, previous import documentation, and a clean U.K. title and registration.
The Black Pearl Metallic (199) exterior is paired with paint matched lower cladding that includes pre-facelift AMG bumpers and side skirts. Original AMG badging can be seen on the front bumper lip and the car has been debadged in the rear – its 500SE moniker stripped from the trunk lid and replaced with an AMG badge. Paint is noted to be original by the selling party. Original AMG Japan stickers still remain on the glass. Japanese curved blindspot side view mirrors are installed and the front driver mirror cap shows two light scuffs. The paintwork and clear coat are in great condition as shown. Notable features include a power sunroof, double paned glass, power (reverse) marker pole antennas, and headlamp washers. HWA AMG muffler and related plate is seen on the muffler body and AMG can be seen on the muffler tips.
18” 2-piece BBS AMG Aero II wheels adorn all four corners in a square setup of 255/45 sized Michelin Primacy HP with 2015 date codes. Some of the wheels show light curb rash and delamination of the clear coat and aging paint. Mercedes-Benz branded astral silver center caps are fitted to all four wheels.
The original Black leather (261) trimmed cabin features burled walnut trim on the doors, center console and dash panel. Notable interior options on this W140 include power adjustable and heated front seats, dual zone climate control, and rear passenger vanity mirrors. A Becker 1692 head unit remains untouched with a rear multi disc trunk mounted CD changer and a JDM Super Cat radar detector. A burl walnut shift knob replaces the original leather wrapped variant. The front seats are fitted with orthopedic lumbar support as are the rear seats. This 6.0 AMG was checked with the rare individual rear seat option which includes a wooden storage partition and a control console for the rear optioned roller blind and orthopedic lumbar support for the rear occupants. The rear seats are powered and recline with OEM controls. The Mercedes-Benz remote for the original Becker is shown in the gallery and included. Rare original AMG floor mats are included in the sale as well as a safety triangle mounted in the boot lid. Wood veneer storage slats are installed on either side of the rear seats as well as ashtrays in the doors. An original first aid kit remains with the car.
A four-spoke black leather steering wheel frames the AMG specific 300-kph speedometer, an 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel economy, and fuel level along with an analog clock. The digital odometer indicates 74,429k kilometers (~47k miles) and there are no warning lights illuminated. External temperature display reads in celsius between the warning lights of which all the bulbs operate as shown in the gallery.
This AMG sedan is powered by an AMG modified 6.0-liter M119 V8 rated at 375 horsepower and 428 ft-lb of torque mated to a 4G-Tronic 722.3 transmission. Photos of the stamped engine are included. 6.0-liter engines got modified pistons from AMG, utilized a stroker M117 crankshaft from a 5.5 liter engine, and had a 100mm bore and stroke along with modified pistons and camshafts. A LH module was used for modified fuel mapping. Recent services include new wiring harnesses, coolant flush, fuel filter, oil filter, oil service, cabin air filters, spark plugs, and temperature sensor. Photos of the underbody are viewable in the gallery as is some surface corrosion on hardware and springs.
Seller-provided videos feature footage of the car revving while at operating temperature. AMG Japan stamps, stickers, and plates are seen throughout the car, in the engine bay, on the engine, HWA plates are included on the AMG muffler, and the 6.0 liter verification plate can be found on the radiator support and in the door sill. This 500SE turned 6.0 AMG is now offered by the selling party out of Brighton, England with manufacturer's literature, stamped engine, and a recent light mechanical refresh including wiring harnesses.
The seller has included the following videos:
A short wheelbase 500SE turned 6.0 AMG hotrod has to be one of the coolest sights in mid-90s Japan. This thug of a car with the Aero II wheels and the Black Pearl Metallic paint would have looked like a shark stalking the dark streets of Japan with laser bright neons reflected off the sculpted AMG bodywork. What makes this thing so unique are three things: the AMG body kit/wheels, the 6.0-liter AMG engine, and it being a short wheelbase with all the goodies for the rear seat including the radio remote, the 2+2 seating setup, and the power controlled reclining rear seats. How good is this spec? Who owned this car new? What’s their story? The 6.0-liter engine is one of our favorites. The M119 is great in 4.2 and 5.0-liter form. But it becomes an entirely different beast in 6.0-liter form. The torque down low is uncanny. Throttle response is immediate. The engine note is heavy and meaty, this one especially with the AMG exhaust. Oh goodness, we’re jealous of whoever buys this Yakuza spec S-Class.

@PeterQvortrup Could you specify on what options there are if I wanted to ship this gem to the East Coast?

@TheLavski Thanks OK, there are several options for this, if you are on the East Coast it is easier and cheaper obviously. Peter
$26,000 bid placed by @Takeflight
@PeterQvortrup yes, US
@TheLavski Sure, that should not be a major problem, where in the world are you? US presumably? Peter
Would you be able to help with overseas shipping?
Beautiful car, good luck.
Hi Peter. Sorry for the delay. Unfortunately I am committed Sunday afternoon but thanks for looking at your availability.
@quantumorbit Hi, actually I also own several standard W140 cars, and they also do this when started from cold, it normally stops if you rev the engine slightly over 10 - 15 seconds, I spoke to my J. A. Haynes mechanic and he thinks it is a slight lack of oil causing this, and when oil pressure is up slightlyand the oil is warm it stops. Peter
I can attest after being around several of these 6.0 119's that this sounds normal for a phone-shot video.
@PeterQvortrup Thanks for the clarification, you learn something everyday. I do own a 500E and 500SEL with the M119 that don't sound like this. Guess it's different on a modified 6.0 AMG. Wish you good luck with the auction.
@quantumorbit Hi The tappet noise you hear disappears as the engine warms up. It is quite normal on these engines as they warm up, my E60 AMG, SL60 AMG and CL60 AMG does this as well. Peter
Engine doesn't sound right. Can you please comment? Thanks

@ubergruber Hi, I am not home this weekend, unless it is late afternoon Sunday, but a weekday is also fine if that works for you. Peter
Hi, would it be possible to see the car this coming weekend? Can you email [email protected] if ok. Thx
