This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E was sold new at Dana Motors of Cincinnati and spent time in Indiana before relocating to Wisconson in 2007 where it has remained ever since under single-family ownership. Finished in Almandine Red Metallic (512) over Grey Leather (278), this 500E is powered by a 5.0L M119 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Equipment includes a power-operated sunroof, fog lights, 16″ alloy wheels, Automatic Slip Control, power-adjustable and heated front seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a Becker Grand Prix stereo. An extensive service was performed in 2019 and receipts over the last 3 years include a new coolant level sensor, distributor cap and rotor, temp sender, and a cleaning of the mass air flow sensor. This 500E is being offered for sale by the original owning family with 89k miles, 5 factory keys, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Wisconsin title.
The car is finished in Almandine Red Metallic (512) with matching lower body cladding. Equipment includes fog lights, headlight wipers, powered sunroof, factory front air dam, and side skirts. The 500E comes fitted with flared front and rear fenders along with widened bumpers and side cladding to match compared to a standard W124. The seller reports rust around the wheel arches along with minor scrapes and rock chips along the front bumper. A small door ding is noted on the rear passenger door and detailed photos of the exterior highlighting all imperfections can be viewed in the gallery.
Factory 16″ 8-hole wheels are mounted with Michelin MXM4 tires measuring 225/55 on all four corners. The 500E featured Porsche-tuned suspension with a lower ride height than contemporary standard W124 models and also required a wider track for better handling. The Carfax shows new brake pads and control arms in 2020 along with new front rotors in 2019.
The cabin features factory front and rear sport seats upholstered in Grey Leather (278) which is also continued on to each door card. Burl wood trim accents the dashboard, center stack in the front and rear, and door panels. No fading is visible on the wood and the seller notes a hairline crack around the shifter console. The headrest switch on the door is missing along with a broken lock pull tab on the driver door. Equipment includes power-adjustable and heated front seats, Mercedes-Benz floormats, an electric rear roller blind, automatic climate control, factory phone, trunk-mounted 10-disc CD changer, and a Becker Grand Prix stereo. The seller reports the driver door must be closed hard to latch and the antenna is inoperable.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation that includes a 160mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 89k miles, all of which have been added by the original owner and their brother since new.
The 5.0-liter M119 V8 was factory rated at 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The Carfax report lists 33 total service history records including a major service in 2019 showing new spark plugs, oil cooler lines, brake pads, front rotors, intake manifold gasket, air filter, and coolant flush along with an oil and filter change. Additionally new control arms were installed in 2020. Additionally, receipts over the last 3 years are provided with the car and include a new coolant level sensor, distributor cap and rotor, temp sender, and a cleaning of the mass air flow sensor. The seller notes the smell of exhaust when operating the vehicle and limited use within the last two years. Partial service records are included in the sale and underbody pictures are viewable in the gallery.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists linear mileage updates since new. The car was reportedly passed to the original owner's brother has remained single-family owned since new. This 500E is now shows 89k miles and is offered with 5 factory keys, partial service records, factory literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Wisconsin title.
A video showing each fender up close has been provided by the seller.

Great deal on this awesome car enjoy
There are nearly 200 photos... not sure why you can only see 7, starcollector?
I somehow can not access both on my phone and a pc. Is there rust any other than fenders? Is underneath OK. I need to trust before bidding since I can not see the photo gallery. Thank You

Yes there should be a whole gallery.
Is there a photo gallery of this vehicle or just only 7 photos? Please advise for bidding. Thank You

@Schoenau, on 500Eboard.co there is a Wiki entry with the number each color combination imported to USA. As noted earlier, yes there were 15 total Garnet/Almandine Red. There were a total of 20 White E500E's and 3 of those had Cream or Parchment (interior code xx5) leather.
I thought the question about paint thickess was in jest. It's not like the original paint can be salvaged. When the rust is remedied, it will need a full repaint anyway.
Good Luck to all bidders on the home stretch!!!
The reserve has been met and we are going to sell this Rare 500E today!!
Unfortunately I was not aware you were looking for paint thickness readings. At this point, I will not be able to get these readings with the auction ending so soon. To the owners knowledge there has not been any painting done on the car. Thanks.

I guess we’re not going to see any paint measurements?

I believe there was few special color combinations built for the 500E. There was one white with cream interior and few other color combinations. Could anyone please share their knowledge.

The fact that it is Almandine over Gray (1 of 2 int he combo) and one of 15 in Almandine, is a big selling point imo. Love this car and I think i can navigate the other issues and doing a light restoration on it.... there is enough equity in the car to do so because of the color. It might not be 500eboard kosher, but it seems like no 500e is...

@AMGTRND - regarding the production figures, much of this info is available on the 500E board. Fact and figure files posted, plus power users are happy to answer questions. For this car specifically, I'm passively familiar with it as it was being serviced at my Indie mechanic (I have 4 MB's between '97-'06) in both 2020 and 2022. I still have photos of it on my phone. I was curious enough to research these details further. Note of the 15 in Garnett Red, 2 were gray interior, 3 were black and 10 were beige. Good luck!

@Starkermann First time I've met someone who doesn't appreciate a 500E. Different strokes I suppose.
Unfortunately, these cars are really starting to look old and dated. The 500E was a hot rod of sorts in its day, but today is not so much... GLWTA!

Antiquarian - correct, only 15 US cars with #512 Garnett Red Metallic (aka Almandine Red). At least two are known to be wrecked. Even more rare is the color combo........ #512 Garnett Red with #278 Gray Leather interior. One of two (one '92 and one '93), or one of one for MY-1992.
Another reason to own this beauty!!
I believe only 15 of these were offered in the US in this color. Very rare example!

To our knowledge, there has not been any paintwork on the car? When asked about the door, the owner said it was never thought to be a problem. I noticed that the drivers side front door closes hard and something is not right, so I want to make sure it was noted. As far as the rusty fenders, from looking at the photos it looks that the rear passenger fender has a little rust at the top or 12 o'clock position.
Hi Everyone. Thanks so much for your interest in the 500E. Do to the passing of the owner the widow has decided to sell the car and see it go to someone who will enjoy it as much as her husband did for many years. I will do my best to answer any questions that I can and will confirm with her when I do not know the answer. Any questions may take a day to answer. Thanks.

Has there ever been any paintwork on the car? With all that service done why couldn’t they fix your drivers door issue? Does the car need anything beyond the 2 Rusty fenders? Thanks Joe
This car is already worth 5K more because it's not black, gray, white or smoke silver IMHO : ) LOVE these!
