This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E was originally sold new in Lexington, Kentucky where it remained dealer serviced with the original owner until 2019. The car features a clean One-Owner Carfax and has been in the selling dealer's collection since acquiring from the original owner. Finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) over Anthracite Leather (271), this 500E is powered by a 5.0L M119 V8 and paired with a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. A major service in February 2023 included replacing suspension components along with the water pump, thermostat, oil pan gasket, spark plugs, starter harness, fuel filter, valve cover gaskets, camshaft seals, a coolant and transmission fluid flush, and air conditioning compressor and dryer. Equipment includes a power-operated sunroof, lower front fog lights, 16″ alloy wheels, Automatic Slip Control, power-adjustable and heated front seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a Becker Grand Prix stereo. This 500E shows just 56k miles and is being offered by the selling dealer with the owner’s manual, service records, a tool kit, a clean Carfax, and a clean Kentucky title.
The car is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) with gray lower body cladding. Equipment includes lower front fog lights, headlight wipers, 500E-specific headlights, and a power sunroof. The 500E comes factory fitted with flared front and rear fenders along with widened bumpers and side cladding to match compared to a standard W124. All 500E's were assembled on a Porsche assembly line due to their widened track and then sent back to Mercedes-Benz for completion. The car features a facelift updated including an updated hood, grille, and headlights from a 1994 E500.
Factory 16″ 8-hole wheels are mounted with Continental ExtremeContact tires measuring 225/55 on all four corners. The 500E featured Porsche-tuned suspension with a lower ride height than contemporary standard W124 models and also required a wider track for better handling. The seller reports a brake fluid flush was performed in 2019. The rear end links, front spindle bushings, control arms, tie rods, and wheel-speed sensors were all replaced in February 2023.
The cabin features front and rear sport seats upholstered in Anthracite Leather (271) which is also continued on to each door card. Burl wood trim accents the dashboard, center stack in the front and rear, and door panels. Minor cracks in the wood veneer can be seen around the window switches. Equipment includes power-adjustable and heated front seats, dual front airbags, an electric rear roller blind, automatic climate control, and a Becker Grand Prix stereo. The seller reports the Becker head unit was rebuilt in 2019 along with the shifter bushings, air conditioning compressor, and dryer being replaced in February 2023.
The four-spoke leather steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation that includes a 160mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The speedometer gears were replaced in February 2023 and the six-digit odometer shows 56k miles.
The 5.0-liter M119 V8 was factory rated at 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The Carfax report shows 31 service history records at the same dealer during the original owner's tenure which ended in 2019. The air conditioning control module and an oil change was performed in 2019 along with a brake fluid flush. The selling dealer performed major service in February 2023 included the replacement of the following parts:
The one-owner Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists linear mileage updates up until the selling dealer's acquisition in 2019. This 500E is now offered with 56k miles and includes the owner’s manual, service records, a tool kit, a clean Carfax, and a clean Kentucky title.

This was listed on BaT a few months ago and bid to $42k, RNM. Link below if anyone wants to read the previous discussion: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1992-mercedes-benz-500e-55/
This was a DEAL for the buyer, who did very well here.
Very, very well bought. As an owner of a '92 (that I dearly love), I was anticipating a higher figure. This may well be the "buy of the year" regardless of vehicle or selling platform.
Great price for the condition and history. Would've continued bidding if I did not have one already. Congrats to @fastlp
Wow, stolen! A beauty! (there is some fool with an Ad in Hemmings asking 6 figures for theirs.... um, no. Not yet, anyway!)
What a Steal! Congrats to the new owner!
@fastlp Congrats! Will contact you shortly.

The updated wiring harness usually has the brand Delphi on a white tag that indicates it’s the non bio one.
@APSloan1 I’m not noticing anything to stand out like that.
$32,000 bid placed by @greaterlakes
Usually there is a tag on it with a date code. That said, I don't know where to look on the harness for the tag. I know the factory replaced some harnesses under warranty so maybe when Renntech examined it was a replacement harness???
@APSloan1 We had Renntech go through all systems and advise. They replaced the starter harness but deemed other harnesses to be in good condition. How would you tell if updated?
Does the car have updated wiring harnesses or are they the originals? Thanks

It is the final day of this lovely 500E. This car needs absolutely nothing but a driver. "Enjoy it while it appreciates." It is gone through top to bottom needing nothing and is ready to enjoy for many miles to come. Paint is in excellent condition. No rust or corrosion. Original leather is soft and supple. Interior in excellent shape. Not a sun-baked or molested car. All original without modification (other than facelift E500 oem items). Alcantara suede headliner in excellent condition etc. Original radio rebuilt by its original manufacturer; Becker. New items (all oem) from RennTech's recent $13k service: complete A/C system, spark plugs, exhaust hangers, speed sensors, valve cover gaskets, cam sensors, cam cover seals, oil level sender, oil, lower oil pan seal, trans fluid, trans filter, trans pan gasket, wiper blades, air filters, airbox intake tubes, cabin air filter, starter harness, shifter bushings, stop lamp switch, fuel filter, spindle bushings, control arms, tie rods, rear links, water pump, thermostat, coolant, 4-wheel alignment, belt, belt tensioner etc. We are glad to help arrange transport (Internationally) or pickup in Columbus, OH. Can store vehicle for buyer within reason. Good Luck!
Any possibility of a phone call?

Additional photos have been added to the gallery showing ~$13k in receipts from RENNtech along with a stamped service booklet, tool kit, manufacturer's literature, and underbody photos.
Hard to imagine a better shop for these cars than Renntech. This car is definitely the 500E you would want to buy. 500Es are slowly advancing in value, but this one ought to be worth considerably more than average.
41 photos showing trunk, undercarriage, $13,000 service receipt at RennTech etc did not make it through and will be added shortly so please look for those. @APSloan1 Date codes on tires are 2019. We installed the new Continentals and they have traveled maybe 25 miles. They have been freshly balanced even though there was no shake, vibrations etc. A driving video can be seen above and a cold-start video will be added shortly. Not sure of exact details but the late original owner's wife told us her husband was upset when they facelifted the 500E a year after he purchased it. He had the local MB dealer handle the install of facelift parts. No bodywork or paint work otherwise, car looks fantastic. No dings, dents, scratches, corrosion etc. This car is absolutely rust free and was clearly well-cared for over the years. We also acquired a low mile 500SL 6.0 RennTech from the owner, in immaculate condition as well. @StudioDude. @Schoenau We don't use paint meters anymore as they are too easily fooled. Paint is in excellent condition. @allenman @JoeyBenz08 When we dropped the car off at RennTech in Stuart, FL, it had no issues whatsoever, running perfectly, no lights, everything working etc. We requested that they go through all systems and give it anything it needs or may need in future. The RennTech guys are very well studied on these 'youngtimer' classic cars. The speedometer gears that were replaced were done so preventatively along with an extensive list of other items at a cost of $13k+. The speedometer/odometer etc has always worked; we have posted videos in 2019 and may of this year that confirm this and can provide if desired. @sirmathrocks Please see comment above. Everything operates as intended including radio, interior lights, rear shade, buttons, a/c, sunroof, etc etc. Absolutely nothing does not work. We spent $13k at RennTech to insure everything it needs or may need in future has been well covered. This is a fine car ready to enjoy whether on the road or in the garage. @Jim_Rosenthal Yes this is indeed a rare specimen having been cared for and loved by one man since new (prior to our acquisiton). It was also always serviced by the same local Mercedes-Benz dealership tech. We installed the Continental tires new and they have traveled few miles. Everything is tip-top ready to enjoy. A/C system was gone through by RennTech among other preventative items at a tune of ~$13k; they replaced the compressor and other related components. They are the absolute best when it comes to these cars.

Tire brand and date codes, thanks
Tirebrand and date codes
Quite strange that the fenders and the hood had to be exchanged for an upgrade!
Did the speedo gear swap affect the mileage at all? Does the radio work? Do all interior lights and button work for everything? Rear shade, sunroof etc? What does not work on this?
Now, if I understand the discussion on the monoblock wheel auction properly, in fact those wheels will not fit on this car. Correct me if wrong. This looks to be a good 500E with a long ownership history and lots of care. This is what I would want if I were shopping for a 500E. Fungible items like tires wouldn't concern me as much as making sure everything works and that the AC system is leak-free. Putting a new evap unit in almost any Mercedes is a big undertaking; I've been there. Good luck with the auction- looks like a nice example of a very desirable car.

What was the answer on the updated parts for the hood and front end? Were they factory parts? I assume they were painted?
Before you replaced the speedometer gears, what wasn’t working? Thanks Joe
Hey everybody I am currently posting 17” Aero II Monoblocks for the W124 which is a direct fit on this car. They would make the perfect upgrade to this outstanding build.

A driving video has been added to the listing.
Nice! Could we have date codes on the tires? Also, any plans for cold start and driving videos? Were the components used for the front end modifications the factory original color or were they repainted to match the rest of the car. Any other paint/body work on the rest of the car? Thks and GLWTA.
