This 1997 Mercedes-Benz E420 was first delivered in Minneapolis, Minnesota in April 1996 through Maplewood Imports. The car remained titled in Minnesota with the original owner until 2017 but was relocated to Arizona in 2006 and driven sparingly. This example is finished in Royal Indigo Metallic (339) over an Orion Grey Leather (208) cabin. Power comes from a 4.2-liter M119 V8 paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. The most recent service included valve cover gaskets, a mass airflow sensor, and air filter. Approximately 1,500 miles ago the car also received a transmission service and oil service. Features include Xenon headlamps, heated front seats, and a power sunroof. This E420 shows only 57,780 miles on the odometer and is offered by the selling dealer with the original windows sticker, one key, original manufacturer's literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Arizona title.
The bodywork is finished in Royal Indigo Metallic (339) and shows nicely with no indications of body work since new. The seller notes the bumper received a repaint in recent months to correct rock chips. The exterior features xenon headlamps with integrated washers, front and rear fog lamps, and a power sunroof with tilt function. All the glass on this example is original and shows no signs of cracking, pitting, or delamination.
Silver-finished 16″ alloy wheels with machined lips measure 16x7.5 on all four corners and are shown with Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires measuring 215/55. One wheel shows light curb rash while the remaining three present with no blemishes. More than 80 percent tread remains on all four tires.
The cabin is trimmed in Orion Grey Leather (208) across the seats and door cards while Burl Walnut adorns the center console, dashboard, and door trim. Interior features include dual zone automatic climate control, a glass sunroof, heated seats, and an original built-in car phone. The car remains fully original and still retains the factory Becker head unit, original carpet floor mats, first aid kit, and original tool kit.
The digital odometer shows 57,780 original miles. Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and a digital odometer with trip function. Additional gauges include fuel level, coolant temperature, and a digital readout showing external temperature. A digital clock is also shown with a display for transmission mode and gear.
The 4.2-liter M119 V8 was rated at 275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque when new and is paired with a 722.6 5G-Tronic five-speed automatic transmission. The included Carfax shows some service history with the most recent service being performed by the selling dealer. This service included valve cover gaskets, a mass airflow sensor, and air filter. Approximately 1,500 miles ago the car received a transmission service and oil service.
This E420 shows only 57,780 miles on the odometer and is offered by the selling dealer with the original windows sticker, one key, original manufacturers literature, a clean Carfax showing linear mileage updates, and a clean Arizona title.
Do we really need to tell you how we feel about this W210? It’s a Royal Indigo Metallic example with clean ownership and an M119 V8 firmly planted up front. It's fantastic. When the W210 debuted more than 80 percent of customers opted in for the M119 over the M104 which didn’t make these cars especially rare... until they were spec’d out like this one. The M119 was ultra smooth and provided the perfect amount of muscle for this mid-size luxury sedan. This paint combined with options like heated seats, xenon headlamps, and the car phone means the original owner knew exactly what they wanted and seized the opportunity with their local Mercedes-Benz dealer. Lucky for us, they appreciated this car for more than 20 years and managed to not only keep it in original condition, but preserved the window sticker and accessories with the car. While we’re talking about seized opportunities, that’s what the buyer should be thinking about as they bid on this prime example. There’s no telling how many like this were made or if any have been fortunate enough to stand the test of time but there's no question the number is extremely low.
