This 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Sport Kompressor was delivered new at Knopf Automotive (Mercedes-Benz of Lehigh) out of Allentown, Pennsylvania in October of 1998 and remained with the original owner until the current selling dealer bought the car in October of 2024. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over Two-Tone Red/Black Leather (227), this R170 SLK is powered by a 2.3-liter supercharged 4-cylinder power plant mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Features include the AMG Sport Package with sculpted bumpers and side skirts, 17" AMG monoblock wheels, a power-folding hardtop, heated seats, CD changer, headlight washers, and wind diffuser. Maintenance in preparation for the sale includes an oil and fluid service along with four new Continental tires including an alignment with dealer services up until 2005. The odometer shows just under 31k original miles. This manual SLK230 Sport Kompressor with rare two-tone red and black leather interior is now offered by the seller with factory books and literature, three keys, jack, spare tire, first aid kit, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Rhode Island title.
The body is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) and is free of any rust or corrosion. Exterior features include headlamp washers and a power-retractable hardtop with an electrically heated rear window. All of the paintwork is original other than the rear right quarter panel and the Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage. Detailed photos of the exterior are provided in the gallery. This SLK230 features AMG Sport Package with sculpted bumpers and side skirts. There is some slight scuffing under the fog light on the chin of the bumper on the passenger side.
The staggered 17” AMG monoblock 5-spoke wheels are specific to the Sport Package. The four wheels are wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 tires measuring 225/45 front with 245/40 rears showing 2024 date codes. A four wheel alignment was done in preparation for the sale. The OEM wheels still retain their factory machined lips and painted faces and show some minor curb rash. With the AMG Sport package, the front and rear sway bars are upgraded from Mercedes-Benz. A sport exhaust is also included in this package.
The interior is trimmed in Two-Tone Red/Black Leather (227) with black carpets, two-tone red and black dash, and red center console. The red continues on the door panels. The leather on both bucket seats are heated and in excellent condition with red stitching. Additional features include manual climate control, cruise control, cup holders, and the factory Mercedes-Benz radio with hidden cassette and trunk-mounted CD changer. The door sills and pedals wear OEM metal sport trim with black rubber accents. Carbon fiber trim adorns the center console, air vents, and doors with no cracks or other visible imperfections in the carbon fiber. SLK-branded OEM rubber mats are installed and included with the sale. The red center console appears to be free of any chipping and dye failure from fingernails, rings, and seatbelt scars.
The four-spoke Sport leather wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer, and additional readouts for fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer reads just under 31k original miles. A digital clock and outside temperature gauge are also present. The horn buttons are in matching red and appear in great condition.
The ‘Kompressor’ supercharged 2.3-liter M111 powerplant is rated at 190-hp and 200 lb-ft of torque from the factory. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. The M111 features a roots-style M62 Eaton supercharger and an air to air intercooler. The factory rear taillight recall item has already been completed in 2006.
The Carfax report lists no accidents or damage since new with single ownership history until late 2024. This 5-speed R170 with rare red two-tone interior is now offered by the selling dealer with factory books and literature, three keys, jack, spare tire, first aid kit, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Rhode Island title.
The M111K is one of our favorite engines. It’s basically a M104 with two cylinders lopped off and a vocal supercharger bolted to the side of the engine. While the rest of the German manufacturers were playing with turbos and high revving naturally aspirated engines, Mercedes-Benz was over here cooking with supercharged forced induction to extract extra power, which we see on later engines like the M113K and the M112K. This SLK230 Kompressor is an excellent spec. AMG Sport package netted you a ton of upgrades over the base car with heavy duty sway bars and staggered AMG wheels – this package offered a ton of grip for the R170. The two-tone red interior adds some zest to the silver Teutonic exterior and the five speed manual transmission gives the driver added interaction and control over their car. There’s not a lot of manual Mercedes-Benz that were put into production for the U.S. market, so you see collectors paying extra for the rewarding perk of changing their own gears. With low mileage and single owner history up until October of 2024, this is a killer little pocket rocket that is truly a four-season roadster that’ll retain all of its value if kept in great condition.
