This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 350SL was ordered new by a United States Army officer through the Stuttgart branch while stationed in Germany. The car is finished in Astral Silver (735) over a Blue Leather (903) interior and powered by a Euro-market high compression 3.5-liter V8 paired with a three-speed automatic. The current odometer reads 50k miles which are believed to be accurate based on the stamped service booklet and records. The speedometer was changed when federalized at the time of importation. Features included electric front windows, factory air conditioning, and a Navy fabric soft top. Records show over $11k of recent services and maintenance including a complete brake job, comprehensive fuel system refresh, oil change, various suspension bushings, and shift bushings. This roadster comes with a matching hardtop in Astral Silver, two keys, the factory tool kit, manufacturer's literature, and a clean Texas title in the current owner’s name.
The car is finished in its original color of Astral Silver (735) and reportedly shows very well with photos of the paint condition viewable in the gallery below. There is evidence of a repainted front passenger fender by way of thicker paintwork than factory. Features include European bumpers, European glass headlamps, fog lights, chrome mirror caps, a painted removable hardtop, and a Navy fabric soft top. The soft top is reportedly in good condition and shows well. Close-ups of the wheel arches, rocker panels and wheel wells are highlighted in the gallery below.
The SL is fitted with OEM 14” Bundt style wheels with Michelin Energy tires mounted measuring 205/70 all around.
The cabin is finished in Blue Leather (903) with matching carpets and trim. Features included electric front windows, factory air conditioning, original carpet floor mats in blue and height-adjustable headlamps. An aftermarket Blaupunkt head unit replaces the original Becker Europa in the dash and aftermarket speakers have been installed in the rear deck.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and an analog clock. Additional auxiliary gauges include fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The six-digit analog odometer shows 50k original miles.
The fuel-injected, high compression 3.5L SOHC V8 originally made 192 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque for the European market. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission.Records show over $11k of recent services and maintenance including a complete brake job, comprehensive fuel system refresh, oil change, various suspension bushings, and shift bushings. Documentation is shown in the gallery.

@miggs1 No it's just on the edge of the door and on the fender flare
I see the dent on the passenger side rear on the edge of the wheel flare and in the door. Is the dent in the quarter panel also in between the two dents
@MBClassicfinds The cold start, driving, hot start video has been uploaded
Shockingly cheap for a great R107, Euro bumpers, Classic color, 180 on mine, they go forever.
@miggs1 Soft Top is flawless and like new
What is the condition of the convertible top

@MBClassicfinds happy to help! The AC appears to need a recharge and possibly some diagnosis. It didn't appear to be very strong but I heard the clutch cycle. The car has no rust that I could find, anywhere.
Thank you for your prompt response. I wonder if the A/C is working properly. What about the rust?
@MBClassicfinds yes I will upload tomorrow. Anything else you'd like to see?
Hello, can you provide hot and cold start video? Also a driving video would be appreciated. Thank you
@Jim_Rosenthal this is the 3.5L M116 European V8
Is this the 3.5 or 3.8 engine? Good to know about the timing chain, that it is the two-roller version.

I would like to note that this car has a dual roller timing chain. I have gone out and verified this myself with a borescope, taking photos and video to prove it. If anyone would like a copy of the video, please direct message me. Thanks! -Stone

Hello and welcome to all of the bidders and watchers! I am here to answer any questions or concerns you may have about this beautiful 350SL. I was lucky enough to be given to the opportunity to put over 200 of the very few miles , on this car. It was a pleasure to drive and offered quite a bit of power, especially compared to the American-Spec 450SLs and other competitive cars of 1979. I am sure that the next owner of this car will be just as impressed as I was with it and will love it for years to come. Thanks! -Stone
