This M120 6.0-liter 48 valve gasoline V12 engine was originally installed in a 1995 Mercedes-Benz S600 Coupe with VIN: WDBGA76E3SA266843. The owner of this engine runs a Mercedes-Benz workshop out of Pompano Beach and was their family’s lawyer’s car which had a tree fall on it in 2015. It was towed to the shop and had the engine removed promptly after and has been in storage since. The S600 Coupe had 20k miles on it when the engine was removed. The auction includes the engine, spark plugs, spark plug wires, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, engine mounts, serpentine belt, pulley, ancillary items such as compressor, alternator, power steering pump, etc. The wiring harness has been upgraded and the engine is missing the distributor caps and throttle bodies. This M120 V12 engine is now offered on behalf of the seller out of Pompano Beach, Florida with a Carfax report and service records.
This M120 engine number should read 120980 12 031977 as it was removed from a 140.056 car with VIN WDBGA76E3SA266843. These engines were modestly rated at 389 horsepower and 420 foot-pounds of torque when new. The intake manifold and exhaust manifolds are still bolted to the engine. One of the female bolt holes for the transmission bellhousing shows a crack in the aluminum. The distributor caps and throttle bodies are missing and not included.
The auction includes the engine, spark plugs, spark plug wires, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, engine mounts, belt, pulley, ancillary items such as compressor, alternator, power steering pump, etc. The wiring harness has been upgraded and is no longer the biodegradable kind. The oil dipstick tube is still attached as is the EGR system.
This engine was removed from the car with the odometer reading 20k miles after a tree fell on it in 2015. The car was towed to the current shop and parted out as the owner was the family’s lawyer. A service was done in 2009 including a compression check, spark plugs, and crankshaft positioning sensor. The service invoice is included in the gallery below.
The seller has included the following video below:
These M120 engines are incredibly valuable as a whole or to disassemble for parts distribution. Mercedes-Benz made this powerplant as a giant middle finger to BMW in response to their M70 motor which was the first German built V12 in the post war era. It made huge power figures while also being so refined and smooth you could balance a nickel on the intake manifold. This powerplant sports very low miles and has an updated wiring harness which was an issue that plagued all of the 1995 cars. Having been removed from a Mercedes-Benz specialty shop, it adds a certain amount of confidence that nothing was irreparably damaged by unqualified technicians. We see enormous value in the individual parts included on this engine alone. This is a rare opportunity to score a complete, documented, low-mileage M120 V12.

Hi everyone Happy Holidays. This M120 is a very special engine with a long history spanning over 30 years. Looking at this engine under a glass table would be aesthetically pleasing, but it offers so much more under the hood. Mercedes came out with its first V12 engine in 1991 for the W140 S Class in response to BMW’s V12 engine that was introduced in 1987 for the E32 7 series. Mercedes did not want to match BMW with this M120 engine, they wanted to outclass them. The BMW engine was a 5 Liter V12 that produced 296 horsepower and has 2 valves per cylinder. The M120 has 4 valves per cylinder and 6 Liters of displacement producing over 400 horsepower when first introduced in 1991. The M120 at the time was a modern all aluminum engine with variable valve timing for its intake cams and utilized forged steel connecting rods. The compression ratio was 10:1 which was relatively high for an engine at that time. In late 1992 the power fell slightly to 389 horsepower to reduce emissions with the removal of the full throttle enrichment programming. I am happy to share some history about the M120 and I hope someone will keep it alive to experience that iconic startup sound once again.best motor for a coffee table$1,000 bid placed by @Ehfischer
