This tool kit is intended for use with a W121 Mercedes-Benz 190SL and the tools are held in a beige canvas roll with a tie closure. The tools included are a wrench, four double-open-ended wrenches, combination pliers, a tire pressure gauge, oil drain wrench, and a black wooden screwdriver handle with two interchangeable shafts – one with two different sized Philips-head and the other with two flat-heads. Additional components consist of a spark plug wrench and Tommy bar, an Allen-style hex wrench, and a wheel mounting fork. This tool kit is now offered by the seller out of Vero Beach, FL.
The beige canvas roll is secured by a tie closure and features 11 slots for tools. It shows very light wear and some discoloration but overall in good condition. The tie strings are intact and still function.
The four double-open-ended wrenches feature Mercedes-Benz branding and range in size from 10mm to 19mm. A 12mm Dowidat wrench is also included. Dowidat is a still in operation German toolbrand that was started in 1919. It is now known as Gedore Tool Group.
The hex key is a M8 and the combination pliers show in good shape. Additional tools include a drain plug wrench, a wheel mounting fork, and a spark plug wrench with a removable Tommy bar.
The black-finished wooden handle accepts interchangeable flat-blade and Phillips-head screwdriver shafts, both of which have FELO markings. FELO is also a German company still producing tools today which started in 1878 specializing in forged hammers, pliers, and screwdrivers. The Mercedes-Benz-branded tire pressure gauge measures up to three bars of pressure (~44 psi) and shows readings on an integrated scale. The gauge is housed in a blue box with a hinged top that is missing a paper insert that says it’s for a 190SL.
This nearly complete W121 tool kit is now offered by the selling party out of Vero Beach, FL and offered world wide shipping.
With working on classic Mercedes-Benz weekly, you come to appreciate a lot of aspects of wrenching on these cars. The engineering on the cars is one. Good lighting in the garage is a second. Having a stocked drink fridge in the workspace is another. But one that stands out is the appreciation of good tools. We are tool nerds. Snap-On, Hazet, Wera are all brands we enjoy. Vintage German tools are, especially ones made for Mercedes-Benz, are even cooler and have their own shelf. If we buy a Mercedes-Benz that is missing its tool kit, we’re immediately on eBay or in our stockpile boxes hunting down a complete set. So many of these got discarded over the years. They’re getting harder to find and more expensive as certain cars get older and more valuable. The 190SL is a prime example. These were cheap cars a few decades ago. Now they’re six figure collectibles. Having a complete car means having a tool kit – this in turn adds value and marketability to it. This is a very nice tool kit that has most of the pieces with good canvas and a lack of rust on the tools. This is a tremendous starting point for any collector that’s missing their kit.

$350 bid placed by @ClassicAutoSMTH
Welcome everyone, I acquired this tool kit alongside my 230SL back in November of '22. The original owner previously had a 190SL that rusted away during Chicago commutes, according to his grandson, but a lot of 190SL-related things remained and conveyed with my car. This tool kit did have a box of spare fuses with it, but it crumbled into dust and splinters, so the fuses are being reused in my Pagoda. Sadly, it didn't come with a tire iron, but those are found easily enough on eBay. Let me know if there are any questions -- thanks.
