Re: the hood/grille issue... I have an '01 SL600 with the AMG bumpers like this car. There is definitely some distortion. The lower section of the hood should present a relatively equal space between it and the top of the bumper. The space between the lower slats and the hood should be consistent from side to side and flush with the bottom of the star emblem. I believe the slats are not bent but rather It looks like the hood could have been closed hard with something on the top of the bumper and it was bent upward. It loolks like it could be corrected. There are 3 tabs with adjustable sheet metal screws securing the lower part of the hood to the structural plastic grille assembly, one on each end and in the center. The center tab may be bent and could be straightened and/or the screw adjusted. Also the top grille slat is distorted; bent upward on both ends. It should show an equal space between the hood opening as well as the slat below.
@Youngclassicamg Shipping to Seattle area (zip 98110)?
Does anyone know why there are 4 bolts between spokes except for the space opposite the AMG logo which has 5? I assume it is to assure proper realignment if ever taken apart.
@Drkkrkn I'm sure most here realize, but..."Power is provided by a naturally aspirated 5.5L M157 V8" should be corrected to forced induction.
@stanmirzayev ..."The seller reports the soft top to be inoperable." 'Sup with this? Not a small matter for these cars. Can you please elaborate? TIA
@Virafp Painting to match only involves the 2 metal sections on either side; between the glass roof and the side door & window trim.
For pricing purposes, these are available new from MB in Germany through a UK reseller. A set of 4 now runs about $2,130 net shipped to the US, direct to the buyer with all import duties paid and no local sales tax. Add your choice of tires installed and balanced for about another $900 (depending on type & brand - e.g. Michelin Cross Climate 2 All Weather's for +$900 incl. install, balance, shipping, duty paid, net). $3,030 bolt 'um on, done & dusted.
@Brandonpreim. Thanks for the reply. I’ve run across a couple of R129 tops where the defrosting glass doesn’t heat even though the connection works. Good to know that you checked.
@Brandonpreim Has the rear window defroster been tested and working?
