Congratulations @KingCutro! I'll be in touch via email shortly.
As we approach the final hour, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any final questions. And, a very Happy 4th of July!
@KingCutro thanks for the question. I would describe the condition of the leather and the interior more broadly as fairly immaculate, especially for a 15 year old car. Specifically, the leather remains supple and there are no cracks, tears, or notable scuffs. Photos 106 & 107 of the driver seat and 111 & 112 of the passage seat aim to give a good sense of any wear that does exist. In the walk around video linked above I point out any notable wear points on the interior and exterior more broadly. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any other specific follow-up questions.
Just a quick note that we will be out of town over the 4th of July weekend (we're leaving the morning of July 1st). I will of course remain responsive to any messages but once we leave, I won't be together with the vehicle again until after the auction has closed (we return the evening of July 4th). Otherwise, many thanks for the interest, comments, and appreciation. We've sought to be good stewards of this beautiful vehicle and hopeful that it will find a new home where it can continue to be enjoyed to the fullest.
@avemaria, @LWB250, @CICBarkeep thanks all. Note that the reference has been removed.
@LWB250This vehicle is running the Harmon-Kardon COMAND system and has an auxiliary input in the glove box. I've admittedly never given the aux input a try though as we don't have an aux cord kicking around any more. Some may have objections to this approach but we've used Bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the lighter to route music from our phones through the radio with relative success / quality. When on longer trips you do end up having to adjust the station you're using when encountering interference which can be annoying but otherwise it has worked fine for us. The car does have a stock phone Bluetooth connection that is functioning (see device pictured in photo 95) though we've not found the quality consistent enough to make much use of this. @Asher5 regarding maintenance, I'm hoping that this will be quite minimal. The notable thing on my list is that the tires now have almost 30k (put on just after we got the car) on them and are starting to approach the wear bars. They should have just about another 10k on them though. We've sought to service the car every ~5k so if you stick to that schedule it would also be due for a service at 76,800.
@LWB250Thanks for looking up the engine serial number. I want to acknowledge / confirm that the number shared is correct; 27297230 461788. I've rescanned all the records I have and I don't see anything about replacing the balance shafts. I will chat about this with our MB mechanic who will certainly be much more familiar with this issue then I am (my understanding is largely limited to my recent reading). Recognizing the possible sense of conflict here though, I would also be happy to help facilitate inspection by a mechanic in the area of someone else's choosing. It is important to me that this listing be as transparent as possible so appreciate attention being called to this. My hope would be that the TLC we understand was invested in this vehicle by the prior owner and subsequently by us helps translate to a long and successful existence for this S211 but I have to accept that this doesn't make it immune from issues common to this engine or to aging more broadly I suppose.
@avemariathanks for the question! Let me take a stab at this but let me know if I'm missing the mark. In short, I've kept up with all recommendations made by our MB mechanic as I strive to be quite fastidious with our cars. Things of likely interest include: 1) replacing the thermostat at around 47k (preventatively and I've never had any issues with overheating or seen any signs of it during previous ownership); 2) servicing the transmission at 53k (we weren't sure if/when it had been done last based on the records I had), and replacing the rear air springs and suspension height sensors at 67k (they had started to lose air when sitting for a day or two).
Greetings all and thanks for checking out this S211! We purchased this car during COVID while splitting our time between Maine and D.C. / Maryland. It proved perfect for making the long commutes and picks up lots of compliments wherever we are. We're going to be quite sad to see it go! While we registered the car in Maine, it has lived much of its life with us here at our home in Silver Spring, MD. All service and maintenance done during our ownership has been by our MB specialist here in MD. We hope this car makes the next owner as excited and happy as it has us! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. GLWTA!
Congratulations @ehust1994! You have yourself a beautiful new 124 wagon!
