For too many years the collector market hit the snooze button when it came to 190SL's. As the younger sibling to the famous 300SL, the 190SL is steeped in Mercedes-Benz heritage and truly shines on its own as a worthy focal point of any collection. Sales for these cars have picked up in the last decade and are being appreciated by multiple generations of collectors and enthusiasts. The timeless styling means these cars should be able to withstand the test of time and continue to be respected classics for years to come and although more than 25,000 examples were produced, very few exist in this condition. Furthermore, this example comes with an excellent history as a single-family owned car. After being purchased new in 1962 and delivered at the factory in Sindelfingen, the car was imported to Portland, Oregon and spent many years with its original owner providing everlasting thrills through many new places and adventures. Now owned by the original owner’s children, this 190SL is ready to start the second chapter of its life as it looks to find a new owner who will continue to provide the same level of care it has seen through the first sixty years of its life.

We're within a few hours of someone being able to own this single family owned late series 190SL. The winning bidder will receive all the documents shown and the original unrestored hard top as well. This is one of the most carefully documented 190SLs I've handled. There are 61 years of receipts. And a few trophies! It's 'on the button' and ready for touring. I encourage bidders to review all 300+ images to fully understand the condition of the car. Non-dealer California residents will pay applicable tax and license fees. This 190SL is located at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO. The car is sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. For new bidders, remember to refresh your browser regularly during the last minutes of bidding so you see the latest bids. And remember that any bid within the last 2 minutes of bidding resets the bidding clock to 2 minutes. Good luck to all bidders.

I attach a quick reminiscence of the car from the original and current owner's family: "Dad, Wilhelm Alfred xxxx aka Fred, was a young officer in Coast Guard when he ordered the 190SL in 1962 from the plant in Germany. Dad's father, Timm Alfred xxxx, and brother-in-law were going to Germany to visit relatives when Dad put in an order for the Mercedes. Dad said that they could drive it when they were in Germany. During its early years, the car was driven around Michigan while Dad captained ice breakers. Then driven to California where it was the daily driver on Hwy 1 performing lighthouse inspections for the Coast Guard. As all the servicemen, change of station were ~3 years involving moves from California to DC, back to the San Francisco Bay, Louisiana, DC and finally, back again to the City by the Bay and (the car was) retired for restoration. Dad did all the maintenance work on the car himself. He kept records in small notebooks of the mileage of each gas fill up and oil change. These records have been misplaced during the restoration. In 2008 Fred embarked on the restoration process of the 190."
