This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL shows first registration in New Jersey from 1987 through 2011. Subsequent registrations are noted in Kentucky and Rhode Island. Finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) over Brazil Leather (273), power is provided by a 5.5-liter V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes heated and power operated orthopedic front seats, optional heated and power rear bucket seats, burl veneer throughout the cabin, a power sunroof, cruise control, and the original Becker head unit modified with integrated USB connectivity. The seller ensured a comprehensive fluid flush was performed in January of 2025 and 4 new Michelin tires mounted. This 560SEL now shows 82k miles and is offered for sale with a clean Carfax report and a clean Rhode Island title.
\The exterior is finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) and features darker-toned lower body cladding, chrome trim lining the beltline and bumpers, and a dual-color pintripe. Exterior equipment includes heat insulating glass with an electrically-heated rear window, headlamp wiper/washers, and a power adjustable passenger-side door mirror.
OEM 15” Gullideckel wheels are shown and wear new Michelin all-season tires measuring 205/65 at all four corners. The rear self-leveling suspension is reportedly in working order.
The cabin is trimmed in rare Brazil Leather (273) and features Burl Walnut wood trim lining the center console, dashboard and door panels. Both front and rear seats are power adjustable with heating for all four seats and orthopedic controls for the front. Interior equipment includes an original Becker head unit wired with USB connectivity, a power sunroof, cruise control, automatic climate control with A/C, and more. The leather shows nicely with average wear noted on the seating surfaces.
The instrument cluster features a 160-mph speedometer along with a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, fuel economy, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The mechanical odometer currently reads just over 82k miles.
This W126 is powered by a 5.5-liter M117 V8 which is factory rated at 238hp and 287 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The seller ensured a comprehensive fluid flush was performed in January of 2025.
This 560SEL now shows 82k miles and is offered for sale with a clean Carfax report and a clean Rhode Island title.
A cold start video of the car is provided below.
The W126 is some of the best work to come out of the Bruna Sacco era of Mercedes-Benz and this classic Smoke Silver over Brazil example is the perfect car for those seeking subtle individuality. With an unrivaled level of ride comfort and no shortage of wood and leather trim adorning the interior, this car represents what it was like to own a flagship Mercedes-Benz in the 80's. Since the W126, five more generations of S-Class have been sold to the public, yet this chassis still holds its own boasting impressive features such as heated front and rear seats, rear buckets, a power operated sunroof and rich leather. The 560SEL provides just enough modern features to make this car comfortable and easy to daily drive while delivering on the Mercedes-Benz classic experience that we all know and love.

Just to confirm, the car is in Lincoln, Rhode Island? I'm in SoCal so shipping or driving it to California would be expensive.
@GoBoGo Thank you for your kind words and wishes 🙏
What a beauty! That interior is so awesome (especially the rear seating). Good luck; wish I was in the game...!
Mercedes Benz aficionados, this is a collector’s grade automobile, 3 adults owned, first owner was a corporate executive, the second owner was a Southern gentleman from Kentucky and I am the third owner. This car needs absolutely nothing except a new owner who will care for it. It’s an unadulterated, completely original car. You can drive this car from California to Boston with no issues. I wish you all good luck with this auction! Thank you 🙏
@benzpirate78 Yes , it is in the manual package.

@jimseeger The a/c system has been converted to R134 and the issue is rectified. Thank you.
Is the A/C system ok. The record shows multiple charges…indicative of continuing leakage.
@thembmarket Thank you for an amazing service accommodating both the sellers and bidders on this site. A stellar customer service!🙏
@omarshareef I just added cold start video, data pages and undercarriage pictures. Please let me know if I can be of more assistance.
@SimonBelgium The data pages just been added as per your request.
Underbody photos of the car have been added to the gallery along with a cold start video in the listing.
@Stuttgart_Steel It’s an extremely rare car in amazing condition. It truly is a classic, collectible. Thank you for your kind and positive comment.
The rear seats are amazing on this. I LOVE this car.
@SimonBelgium I will tomorrow.

@Joeded That's OK, can you post the data card?
@SimonBelgium I checked the data pages that I have, they are in German.
@omarshareef No leaks! I will try to post some undercarriage pictures by Tuesday, if the auction house agrees.
$5,250 bid placed by @omarshareef
What a beauty! Any fluid leaks?
@CraigSu I will ask the auction house if it is possible Monday.
Is it possible to post pictures of the undercarriage?
@SimonBelgium I do have a printed copy. I will ask the auction house if they can add the pictures.
Sweet! Did you get the Data Card for this car? If not, you can contact the MB Classic Center. Would love to see the full list of options!
$5,000 bid placed by @Comery3
@CraigSu The cup holder is aftermarket. The whole is for auxiliary connection installed by Becker radio. There are no tears on the leather seats. This car is a collector’s edition and grade.
Beautiful car! I had no idea the Brazil leather was even an option. A few questions: 1. I'm assuming the cupholder insert is not an OEM feature? 2. Is the hole in the front console to the left of the horn switch the added AUX input for the stereo or is the USB connection mounted elsewhere? 3. Is any of the leather torn or am I just seeing scuff marks in the photos?
@ottobenz The original first aid kit is in its original location.
@ctilley777 it’s extremely rare. They also are heated and reclining and as you can see, in excellent condition. Thank you 🙏
4 place seating option? Wow, that is rare! Beautiful car!
Everything works as it should. P/ windows, heated seats, cruise control, p/antenna,. I will check for the first aid kit tomorrow.
nice car with rare options... can you affirm what functions work versus don't work: A/C, cruise, sunroof (open/close & tilt), power windows, power locks (from both front doors and trunk), power seats (especially the ortho function and power rear seats?) and the radio including power antennae? Also, curious if the first aid kit is still in the car? Thanks,
I will post a cold start and driving video by the weekend. I drove this car from Kentucky to RI , it was a dream trip. I would drive it to California with no hesitation. Mercedes Benz does not make cars like this anymore.
Beautiful looker in pics! Love to see a cold start and a driving video as well. Simple question: What doesn’t operate properly and needs R&R? Would you feel comfortable taking this vehicle in a cross country road trip today as it sits? Yes, I am interested.
