The W164 was a huge improvement over the W163 when it came to luxury, interior ergonomics, and on-road usability. Like most luxury SUVs that came out in the late ‘90s as that segment began to take off, a lot of these SUVs were body-on-frame and purpose built for off-road use. When the Germans began to see suburban housewives buy these and use them as grocery haulers instead of hardcore off-roaders, they switched from body-on-frame architecture to unibody architecture. The Porsche Cayenne and the BMW X5 saw great sales success with their unibody design that Mercedes-Benz decided to follow suit with the W164 as the W163 was basically obsolete as soon as it launched. The W164 therefore feels like a 300 horsepower boulder when you drive them. They are stout and the chassis feels tough. A lot of these cars have been driven into the ground, so it’s nice to see a low mileage, clean black/black example like this pop up for auction. The nice paintwork and very clean seats without tears in the bolsters is a nice change of pace. The M113 5.0-liter engine, the seven speed 722.9, and no air suspension makes this car pretty desirable as it will just run and run and run. This’ll be a reliable, high quality truck that someone is going to enjoy.

Really soft market. Unless we can make a deal with the highest bidder, we’ll just hang onto this until Spring time or sell locally. Thanks for bidding, everyone.
Don’t let this slip away. There won’t be low mileage, clean history examples around forever…

Hey guys! Wanted to chime in here to share some thoughts on this ML500. This is a super clean example of the V8 powered W164. It's also presented in the fairly rare AMG Sport Package, which is really cool. Super low mileage for the platform and age. You regularly see these ran through with 250k+ miles, but not this one. Quite frankly, you're going to be hard-pressed to find a cleaner, more desirable ML500 with this low of mileage. The truck runs fantastic, just as you would imagine. It feels and even smells new. Like the ad states, these things will run forever, especially when well cared for like this one has been. Bid with confidence, guys, because examples as clean as this one don't pop up too often. And I know whomever takes this home is going to absolutely love it.
