This 1997 Mercedes-Benz E60 RS RENNtech began life as an E420 Sport from the factory but was promptly turned over to RENNtech for a number of performance and cosmetic modifications. Finished in Black (040) over Anthracite (201) Leather, this E60 RS is one of the earlier W210 E60’s produced by RENNtech and features widened metal fenders and modified ground effects. Power comes from a RENNtech-tuned 6-liter M119 V8 and is sent to the rear wheels through a reinforced 722.6 5-speed transmission. Additional modifications from RENNtech include a Brembo big brake kit, adjustable Koni suspension, a limited-slip-differential, RENNtech stainless steel exhaust, RENNtech Monolite wheels, and a custom interior. The seller acquired the car in 2020 and the odometer currently displays 70,874 miles. The car is now offered at No Reserve with the factory literature, two keys, a clean Carfax report, and a Clean Mississippi title.
Finished in Black (040), this E60 RS features a RENNtech widebody conversion consisting of custom metal fenders and spaced-out factory AMG bumpers. The chrome trim on the bumpers and door handles has been painted matte black while the OEM chrome grille has been wrapped in matte black 3M vinyl. The marker lights on the front bumper have been deleted and replaced with Black (040) paint-matched covers while the hood ornament and rear badging were deleted by RENNtech at the time of the conversion. The seller notes a hairline crack in the filler where the hood ornament would be mounted. Other notable exterior features include OEM xenon headlamps with automatic washers, a sunroof and tinted windows. A paint correction was performed in late 2020.
The staggered RENNtech Monolite Wheels measure 18x9 up front and 18x10.5 in the rear and are currently wrapped in Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2’s measuring 255/40 and 285/35 respectively. The one-piece forged magnesium wheels feature black painted faces and polished lips with the RENNtech logo stamped on a single spoke per wheel. Behind the wheels, a Brembo big brake kit boasts 8-piston calipers and slotted two piece rotors.
The Anthracite leather interior was retrimmed by RENNtech to feature Black Piano Wood veneers and Anthracite Alcantara on the seat inserts, door cards, and contoured steering wheel. In addition to the added materials, interior modifications include a double-DIN head unit featuring navigation, bluetooth connectivity, and a back-up camera. As a result of the installation, the climate controls were relocated to the storage compartment just under the head unit and can be hidden under the veneer with the OEM folding cover. The original head unit will be included with the sale and the factory wiring has been retained if future owners choose to return the console to stock appearance.
An aftermarket stereo has been professionally installed as well with two JL Audio 10” subwoofers under the rear deck alongside two JL Audio amplifiers. The headliner has been replaced with grey alcantara and the original set of RENNtech floor mats remain in place embossed with “RENNtech E60.”
Instrumentation was modified by RENNtech with new white gauge faces accented with blue numbering and icons. The speedometer now reads up to 200mph and the tachometer to the right shows a 6k rpm redline. The analog readouts to the left display fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer displays 70,874 miles and the seller notes several failed pixels in the display for which they are willing to reimburse the buyer for the cost of the pixel repair.
Power is derived from a fully built 6.0 liter M119 V8 from RENNtech sporting an aftermarket crank, rods, pistons, and valve train. A complete stainless steel exhaust was also built and installed by RENNtech including headers, resonators, and tips stamped with the original RENNtech logo. RENNtech rates the E60 RS at 434 horsepower and a staggering 525lb-ft of torque. 0-60 reportedly takes 4.5 seconds and traction is achieved with the help of a RENNtech limited-slip-differential and the 722.6 transmission that’s been reinforced and reprogrammed by RENNtech.
This 1997 RENNtech E60 RS is offered with one key, factory literature, and a clean Carfax, and a clean Mississippi title. The seller has agreed to reimburse the buyer for a second key and the pixel repair for the gauge cluster LCD display. Videos have been added below showing an exterior walk-around, interior and trunk tour, and a cold start.
The fit and finish on RENNtech's E60 conversions really was above and beyond any other tuning house of the era. In 2020 we, here at The MB Market, had the chance to sit down with the individual who hand formed each hand every widebody fender for these cars and we were able to see photos of the process step by step. Creating these cars was just as much an art form thus every E60 RS presents as such. While most builds of this nature wouldn’t stand the test of time, these cars and engines were built with longevity in mind and to this day still tout greater performance stats than most new cars rolling off assembly lines in 2021. We’ve been able to track this E60 RS over the last couple owners and we’re happy to see that it’s been well kept and maintained over the years. The datacard notes this specific example as an E420 Sport which ups the rarity quotient but deeper digging also denotes the car as a “press car” telling us it was one of the first E60 RS’s built and has served a higher purpose in the Mercedes community since day one.

All fluids and filters have been replaced per RENNtech recommendations. Front rotors and pads have less than 1000 miles. Tires have date code of 2019 and have less than 1000 miles as well. The car is going to a new home today!

Blakley has a beautiful silver E60. Check out his IG page. After seeing his car with wheel spacers, I’m really starting to regret selling it. https://www.instagram.com/p/CN8Gy4Xj8Ln/?igshid=92vgslvzyn6m

These widebodies were done by Johan when he worked at Rt. You can see some pictures of the process on his website, jrdtuning.com
I owned two 1997 E60 RENNtechs. One was built with KONI shocks and 6-cyl H&R springs, the other had AMG E55 springs and AMG shocks (which are made by Bilstein). I much preferred the ride & handling of the AMG setup, removed the KONI/H&R from the second car, and installed the AMG suspension instead. YMMV, etc. IMO, some of what RENNtech installed in the late 1990's wasn't necessarily ideal and may have been limited by what parts were available at the time. Because of this, I personally don't think it's worth keeping every single item original as it left RENNtech back in the day. Stiff dampers sitting on the suspension stops may work well on a smooth racetrack, but it's not necessarily the best setup for a street car. Along those lines, RENNtech installed their Heim-joint solid rear subframe links on most of these builds. I also didn't like those for street use and replaced them with stock links, with a different camber correction solution. I see the same was done on this particular car as well. BTW, the top powerplant available was rated 434hp/465tq per RENNtech's catalog, there was no M119 engine offered with 525 lb-ft. Every build was unique, it's impossible to tell the original spec without seeing the build sheet / receipt for the specific VIN in question. The widebody RS version is still the most rare of the small number produced.
@allenman thanks for this comment, I enjoyed reading it. The coachwork that went into this car is truly amazing. In my discussions with RENNTech and other E60 RS owners, the cost of the build was around $100,000, with all customers having different costs due to their individual specification. Most were around the $75,000 mark with some, such a Jerry Seinfeld’s that is nearly identical to this specification and was $115,000 in addition to the price of the car.
@ilyah I checked the shocks, they are Bilstein's. The part number on them is B36-2154. They don't look very old. The yellow adjustable Koni's are still available and are about $600 for all 4. Link In talking to other E60 RS owners, the Koni's were very stiff and often replaced with the Bilsteins. The springs are H&R, part number 29724 with production date code of 97. All modifications were done by RENNTech, I have not done anything under my ownership and nothing appears to do after it left RENNTech. I replaced the double-din radio with a newer model to get some more features like bluetooth audio.
Just to fill in, from an old timer... In those days, remember that they had an upholstery shop on the property. It was up in the front, on the left side, as you looked at the door. Super high quality work. They eventually moved on, and of course they moved the RT shop too. Back then, that was one of the few places who could make those steering wheels, and they were beautiful . Once the Supercharged cars came along , it became more of a bolt on business than before. I remember Bob telling me that the Supercharged cars was one of the best things that happened to them. Ah, those were the days....
@benzgarden Thanks. Just thought the Grey color was a bit of an odd choice over black... Could you please provide more info on the suspension. It looks like there are Bilstein shocks and H&R springs in the rear, what's up front? Do you know when they were replaced? What spec/model are they. Do you know what spec the adjustable KONI suspension was that came originaly? (is it still possible to source). What other modifications have been made there are not part of the orignal RennTech package? Is there any service history available?
@allenman sure thing, I’ll take those pics this evening. Car has owners manuals in the glove box. Car is completely rust free. I also have sourced a piano black wood bezel and original radio if the new wants to go back to the original look. I planned on it but liked having Bluetooth audio , phone and XM radio.
Maybe I haven't seen it, but could we see the area surrounding the trunk opening button, and the sunroof, opening in detail, and the wings (fenders)? As you know these cars are notorious for rusting in those areas. Also, are there any manuals or paper records ? Thanks...
@ilyah I think so. The same material is on the door panels, steering wheel and seats. It definitely looks like Alcantara and not cheap micro suede. It looks to be something done by Renntech.
Is the grey Alcantara headliner the color/material that was installed by RENNtech originally?

$6,000 bid placed by @W124
These are the same brakes that was on one of my W124 E60's, so I'd say they were perhaps making the switch sooner then otherwise expected... At the same time my Renntech SL72 has the Alcons and it was built in 95... Much like AMG I imagine some of the builds boiled down to What was available Right Now. GLWTA, cool car..I'm sure she's a rip!
$5,000 bid placed by @HANSMEZGER
Photos of the undercarriage, and some pics of the tubular headers would be helpful!
Thanks for all the comments. This car is coming out of my personal 30 car collection. I’ve decided to sell a few and some other interesting listings coming soon. I will post some more information about the car this evening.
@LincolnAMG - good observation. When I purchased the car last year, the calipers had white Brembo decals. I purchased some Renntech caliper badges and put those on because it looked better. The calipers are made by Brembo and white decals are still there if someone prefers that look. I will get a pic of that and get it added to the listing.
Flawless
Very interesting car. Seller, do you have the original RENNTech invoice? The brakes and wheels seem to be more recent than 1997. RENNTech was using Alcon brakes back then and the logo design is the later version with tech in red, which came after the '90s.
Wow. Seems to be flawless. Would be interested in seeing the list of modifications.
