@77MTaylorthanks, definitely 1 of 1.
Thanks for all the bids and phone calls. Let me know if there any additional pics or information needed. This car has all the bells and whistles - don’t settle for a taxi spec.
@css008 - No PPF.
I purchased the AMG sign from this seller. Very professional and a very easy process. Bid with confidence.
@48hp, the door panels in the magazine car are different as well.
@MP91 - can you remove a front wheel and take a picture of the front caliper? I’ll be able to tell if it’s 4-piston AMG upgraded one looking at it from the front. Some even had AMG stamp. My 84 SEL had them so it was something they were doing then if requested. I haven’t been able to find anyone to repair mine and currently using standard W126 caliper.
Any additional information on the transmission swap? Is it a low mileage unit? What was the cost for such a conversion?
@EuropeanStarr, “premium unleaded fuel” wasn’t on the gauge on early 80’s cars. I might be mistaken so maybe the experts will chime in. Possible it was dated later but doesn’t not seem to be period correct.
The cluster appears to be a reproduction and needles painted? Was it changed?
@kvrs, I found some old posts I made years ago. Per member EuroCoupe, "And yes, I found out there were 1985 6.0 2cam motors. They were built/shipped from Germany only. It is the 560 block, as Mercedes finished developing this engine in '85. They are rated at 340hp in Euro form. The 4cam heads only yield another 35hp but even more torque" https://www.benzworld.org/threads/1985-500sel-amg-6-0.306721/
@Silo, the 6.0L in 16V configuration existed in 1984/85. I have a 500SEL AMG which is a documented car with it. There is also a 85 Gen 1 500SEC 6.0 16V currently for sale at Curated.
Every time I drive my car with DOHC heads I’m terrified of blowing the head gaskets. It takes away from enjoying the drive. I’m watching the temp gauge more than the road. The DOHC heads are awesome to show off at cars and coffee. Majority of the people have no idea about the modification and could care less. It does let me flex and feel good.
Thanks. Road trip back to Mississippi
These were al a carte builds however it appears the later pre-merger cars especially the Japan builds were mostly exterior body kits/wheels and the motor. I’ve noticed the early 80’s cars out of Affalterbach had much more custom interiors and sound systems. I’m worried as the market for these appreciates we will start to see some non authentic pre-merger cars. Those who have documented cars will be financially awarded.
These look like something made by Carat Duchatelet. Can we get confirmation this is an actual pre-merger AMG part? I don’t see it in any AMG brochures/price lists from AMG WEST.
Thanks for all the bids. On standby to answer any last minute questions. Somebody is about to be a proud new owner of a 6.0L V8 Benz. Good luck
All fluids and filters have been replaced per RENNtech recommendations. Front rotors and pads have less than 1000 miles. Tires have date code of 2019 and have less than 1000 miles as well. The car is going to a new home today!
Blakley has a beautiful silver E60. Check out his IG page. After seeing his car with wheel spacers, I’m really starting to regret selling it. https://www.instagram.com/p/CN8Gy4Xj8Ln/?igshid=92vgslvzyn6m
@allenmanthanks for this comment, I enjoyed reading it. The coachwork that went into this car is truly amazing. In my discussions with RENNTech and other E60 RS owners, the cost of the build was around $100,000, with all customers having different costs due to their individual specification. Most were around the $75,000 mark with some, such a Jerry Seinfeld’s that is nearly identical to this specification and was $115,000 in addition to the price of the car.
@ilyahI checked the shocks, they are Bilstein's. The part number on them is B36-2154. They don't look very old. The yellow adjustable Koni's are still available and are about $600 for all 4. Link In talking to other E60 RS owners, the Koni's were very stiff and often replaced with the Bilsteins. The springs are H&R, part number 29724 with production date code of 97. All modifications were done by RENNTech, I have not done anything under my ownership and nothing appears to do after it left RENNTech. I replaced the double-din radio with a newer model to get some more features like bluetooth audio.
@allenman sure thing, I’ll take those pics this evening. Car has owners manuals in the glove box. Car is completely rust free. I also have sourced a piano black wood bezel and original radio if the new wants to go back to the original look. I planned on it but liked having Bluetooth audio , phone and XM radio.
@ilyahI think so. The same material is on the door panels, steering wheel and seats. It definitely looks like Alcantara and not cheap micro suede. It looks to be something done by Renntech.
Underbody pics will be added shortly, I just submitted them. Thanks for all the interest. It's a rust free car that has lived its life in warm salt-free climates.
Thanks for all the comments. This car is coming out of my personal 30 car collection. I’ve decided to sell a few and some other interesting listings coming soon. I will post some more information about the car this evening.
@LincolnAMG - good observation. When I purchased the car last year, the calipers had white Brembo decals. I purchased some Renntech caliper badges and put those on because it looked better. The calipers are made by Brembo and white decals are still there if someone prefers that look. I will get a pic of that and get it added to the listing.
