Beautiful example. When properly assembled, a tribute will give you everything the original offers, These timeless classics are best when driven often and a tribute is the way forward for anyone who wants the driving experience without a million dollar price tag. FWIW, the later KE 5L's are rated substantially higher from the factory than the early M117 5L's. All the best with the sale!
@amg5pt4 is spot on with each point. Regarding the AMG rear valance and AMG / Sebring tip alignment... The AMG rear apron/valance relief was molded to align with the OEM muffler tip exit point. That "relief" would have been filled in when this exhaust upgrade installed at AMG. This detail was overlooked by third party installers of this system, hence the misaligned end product. :/ Though both the collector and the muffler are universal between with both C126 and W126, the center section is wheel base specific, Good luck with the sale of this ultra pre-merger AMG bit!
@MP91 The Ideal and Classic seats are very similar but those pictured in the magazine are Recaro Idealsitz, not Classic-C seats. The photos used in the magazine article are stock AMG catalog photos. Though the press car and the car being auctioned are very similar, they are not the same.. Regardless, beautiful time capsule and GLWS!
Love this time capsule. This example certainly represents the pinnacle of AMG at the time. @AMG5pt4 is spot on and living through the resurrection of his own superb Gen I WB example. The earliest WB front flares were actually attached on top of OEM front fenders as found on the legendary Phönix wide body. Also, unique to the earliest examples was the rear quarter styling and no part number embossing.. The WB kits and WB metal fabrication techniques evolved over the years. This beauty will require a tub of elbow grease to bring back but well worth the effort. GLWS!
@PCM1 Beautifully presented and well preserved example. Very nice. Considering that this is said to be a California car from new, the AMG appearance package is likely to have been installed by a third party vendor in California. Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories, specialized in accessories and offered various install options. That said, any competent vendor could have installed a body kit and wheels purchased on the open market. By 1990, the grey market import window had all but shut and Gen II euro bumpers are rather rare stateside. So, if these are genuine Gen II bumpers front and back, they add value Though, this rear bumper / rear apron appear to be of a one piece composite design. Can you confirm whether the entire body kit is fiberglass or Polyurethane or both? FWIW, the steering wheel is not correct and its center pad appears aftermarket/home brew.. The gauge faces, door sills plates and exhaust tips are period correct in appearance but they also appear to be aftermarket reproduction add-on items. Nicely executed exhaust, shame the US single crossover and single downpipe was retained. The OEM Try-y manifolds are a straightforward install and would have provided a nice mild boost in performance.. Again, beautiful example, wonderfully presented and considering the current market insanity, this should command a nice chunk of disposable income.
@kvrsBeautiful WB. This very car was inspiration whilst building ours. Good luck with the sale and hope it continues to be enjoyed out on the open road.
@TheAMGKit Yes, 5.4 is achieved through bore and stroke as is 6L if starting with a 5L crank. (pre 560) The more common 6L was achieved using a 560 crank and 100mm bore.
